Kinda a random question but, what does the fondant taste like? And vs. the buttercream, which would you choose?

We didn't eat our fondant as we were told it's just for decoration and there's icing underneath it.

It's very sweet. Most do not eat it. It's mostly for decorating purposes. Some like the taste but most do not.

There is always Buttercream underneath. :thumbsup2

Here are our ADR's to date...which location do you think would be more ideal to order a fancy cake from?

Day 1 - dinner @ CRT
Day 2 - dinner @ Tutto Italia
Day 3 - dinner @ Hoop de doo
Day 4 - dinner @ Tony's

So far, the only one of those at which I've seen anyone get a fancy cake is CRT - in general, the theme park restaurants do not have as many options for fancy cakes as the resort restaurants do. Hoop de Doo might work if the cake is made by Wilderness Lodge's bakery, but I haven't seen anything more than a basic buttercream- or ganache-covered cake with a few flowers posted from Wilderness Lodge.

Most of the really fancy cakes posted on this thread were served at the Grand Floridian, with some from the Yacht & Beach Club or the BoardWalk Inn. :thumbsup2

I am just confused because I read that Magic Kingdom only does the frozen Sara Lee cakes...is that what would be offered at CRT as well? I did see the Glass Slipper, that is nice as well.

Maybe on our "off day" I should just pick one up from the Boardwalk Inn and bring it back to the room for us! We are staying at POR so we do have a fridge in the room...hmmmm, decisions decisions!

They don't only do Sara Lee cakes. They have the yummy Mickey Head cake and '10 custom cakes.

on one of the three cake threads someone did have a pirate of the carribean cake with will turners pic on the top and a few of the characters around the sides.

Hi I hope you can help. I've looked through this thread (not all of it though) the picture thread and Disney's website.

DS11 and I will be there Aug 8-15 staying at CBR. Anyway I want to get him a cake, it's not his birthday but he did just finish elementary school and maintained honor roll despite the fact that he was hospitalized 3 times and missed more than a month of school this year (chronic medical condition:sick:). I thnk that is something to celebrate :yay:! He loves Pirates but it doesn't have to be pirates. I can't find pictures of anything other than the little treasure chest.

I saw where some one was going to have the Star Wars Mickey changed to a pirate but don't know if this happened or how it turned out.

I'm open to any ideas, suggestions etc. BTW I know it's just the two of us and small cake would be best but if I have to go bigger to get something special then we will just have to eat it all week long :cutie:

Our ADR's are CRT, Le Cellier, Rose and Crown, Hollywood Brown Derby and Teppan Edo oh and Ohana breakfast (10:50 am) if that helps :)

We will be celebrating Mom's birthday at the Cali Grill...it's just the two of us so I don't know if it's worth trying to get a cake or not. Has anyone gotten one from there? Is there anything I can order that would be good for just the two of us?

TIA :goodvibes

I got a lil castle cake here for my 25th Ann. It was $12.00 and did I say it was little ? It was soooooo little it was a joke. I was not expecting it to be that little but idk I guess that's why it was only $12.00 . :rotfl2:

You know, that might be my best choice even though it is small since it's just the two of us and that could be her dessert. Who do I call for that?

You can call the restaraunt ahead of time (or Disney dining) and they will have a cake ready for you.

i thought i had seen a camo cake on the thread but when i looked back, it was not there. :confused3 must have been somewhere else.

the camo cake from akl was terrific, you might also want to look at the finding nemo cake that is pictured. that would also work with a few alterations of color and top of cake treatments.:thumbsup2

good luck and please post pictures of your cake later.

I 2nd the Boardwalk Bakery! I think they do a great job and have reasonable prices, the whole cake special order has really changed over the years, and they just dont seem reasonable to me anymore - but that's just my opinion

reposting the boardwalk bakery cakes from when we walked in for our breakfast:

Some of the pictures that were posted have 'broken links' meaning the OP moved their picture and didn't fix the link in their post. Maybe that's what happened to the Camo Cake you're thinking of. (If you don't see anything with that notation, it's because I cleaned them up when I was creating the Cake Gallery :goodvibes )

The cake was tasty and moist. It was very cold though - I assume their fridges are set very close to 0 degrees. The next morning, the cake and icing was much softer. The large strawberries were a nice surprise - very ripe and juicy.

I know these aren't really custom cakes but I thought I would share. I wasn't charged extra for the "Happy Birthday" writing or cake holders just $3.99 for each. :goodvibes They were yummy!

I've seen some Mad Hatter cakes, and I was curious if anyone knew the cheapest Alice Themed cake (Mad hatter or otherwise) that will feed 3-4 people. Do they have a mad hatter one under $100?

We were planning on being at WDW in January for mine and my DS10's birthday, but we had to delay our trip. We have moved it to November 2010 and my DS will have his 13th birthday on our trip. We will arrive on his birthday and my DH want to go to the 8:00 PM Luau at the Poly. We are planning on staying at the CR. I'm trying to decide if it would be better to get a cake delivered to the room while we're in the parks that day, or have it at the Luau. I'm getting about as much help from him, as I would if I asked my dog the question. I thought I would ask here. Which would you do? Get a custom cake delivered to the room or to the Luau?

Also, for those that have had the chocolate cake with chocolate filling, is it too chocolatey?

no worries, i was figuring there were a lot that have been deleted, so perhaps thats what happened. i'm going to try to get them to get the camo cake above, with perhaps mrs and mrs potato head on it!
