Ijust wanted to let you know that I called the CR cake hotline and explained my situation of wanting a custom cake for DD 15th bday at Tony's. I explained that I had every door slammed in my face and the very wonderful Sally explained that if i wanted to pick the cake up from the Wave in CR and take it with me that is something that they could do. She gave me Jessi's email address, let me know she was off that day and that she would forward on to Brian my email. Brian and i have been corresponding ever since and now my DD will have her beautiful Belle cake!!:yay:
I guess what i am saying is don't give up. I spent alot of lunch hours at work trying to pull this off.

Why did Sally ask you to pick up at Wave, is it where the bakery was located?
I hope I can pick up my cake at CR too. Did sally ask you if you will stay at CR? Brian kept asking me if I will stay at CR.

Do you have a picture of Belle cake?

If you choose for the cake to be delivered to your room, is there an extra charge?

We were charged the price of the cake plus tax & 18% gratuity for our cake that was delivered to California Grill. I think the price will be the same because the cakes come from private dining at the resort so the gratuity is standard I guess.

We just got back from a wonderful trip to the world yesterday. I'd ordered a cake from Pat at the Grand Floridian Bakery. I ordered a 8 in vanilla with raspberry filling, white choco ganache with red frosted roses and a white choco cinderella slipper.

I'm not sure what happened but it came out to our table as a marble ganache (specified to Pat that we can't eat milk chocolate. It makes me ill) and the cake had one pitiful white frosting rose bud that had collapsed, the slipper looked like it was slipping of the cake.

We so disappointed that we couldn't even eat it because of the milk choco in it. The coloring of the cake was just ugly. Unfortunately we'll probably never order another cake. It was just too expensive to throw in the trash can.

Here's the cake we ordered from the GF bakery for delivery at Citrico's. We had it presented at the begining of the meal to use as a centerpiece. Some of those chocolate shavings disappeared before dessert time!

8 Inch chocolate cake with dark chocolate mousse filling
chocolate ganache frosting
custom decoration
$64 (plus tip...we had the TIW card and got 20% discount on this)

We had 8 people in our party (two had to cancel, but we took them their pieces). Since Citrico's desserts all cost $8, this cake was the same as everyone ordering dessert! :thumbsup2

I thiink my friends photos turned out better, so I'll post her's when she returns.

In the first photo, the gold you see in the background is the champagne glasses.

And.....the aftermath:

I ordered a pirate themed cake for my ds12 for next week at 1900 PF. Pat gave us a idea of what they will do, but I'm confused on one thing. She said they would use chocolate fondant....is that the same as the chocolate ganauch frosting I've seen on several photos in this thread?

No, fondant and ganache are not the same thing. Fondant is used on wedding cakes to smooth it out and decorate it (and on the Ace of Cakes and Cake Boss shows). It can be eaten but most don't like the taste and peel it off before they eat the cake.

Ganache is a frosting that is made of chocolate and heavy cream. It hardens after it's spreads. It's yummy and no need to peel it off. :)

Did you let them know about the mix-up when the cake arrived? Sorry to hear that your cake experience wasn't better.

I'm very disappointed with Disney cake ordering process(CR and GF). For the same cake posted on this thread, I was always quoted a higher price. Depends on who you talk to, I was quoted different prices. And sometimes I was told I can get a customized 6 inch, sometimes I was told the least size is 8. Why the inconsistencies?

And they charge 18% to deliver to your room.

We had the Mickey Head Cake in June, the ganache tasted like very rich and thick milk chocolate. Kind of like bitting into a bar of chocolate. It was soft and chewey and milky, I loved the taste.

Thank you - that sounds delicious!

You don't eat the fondant - you peel it off and there's buttercream frosting underneath, so it tastes just like eating a regular cake. :thumbsup2

I know that's how it's supposed to work, but it always seems like the frosting underneath is such a thin layer that it sticks to the fondant when we peel it off. (Of course, we haven't had a Disney cake with fondant so they may be different!) :goodvibes

I called last week to order my mom's cake for her birthday on 9/28, it took 2 messages and an email to Pat before I heard back, but I did get it ordered. My mom loves Minnie and doesn't eat chocolate, so we got a vanilla cake with strawberry and custard filling, pink fondant and a Minnie theme, it was $77 for the 8", she offered me a customized 6", but I wanted to be sure to have leftovers for later in the week.

My only question is, she didn't take a credit card for the order, just said it would be billed on our dinner receipt, is that normal, I would have thought they would want a credit card for security of payment.

I ordered a cake through Pat for this Sat. and she did not take credit card info from me either. She said the same, it will be added to our bill. She did take our reservation # though.

Same for me when I ordered through the contemporary. The private dinig people took my ressie# and said I would be charged at the meal.

We have 2 orders, one custom cake with AKL to be delivered to our room this Saturday for my DD's birthday- that one they took a CC for. Then we have a glass slipper at CRT on the 2nd, and was told it would be billed at the time of our dinner. :goodvibes

ITA- I just called to see if I could get the 10 inch cake I ordered smaller (previously had been told I could not b/c of the decorations I requested) and was able to order a 6 inch cake instead with a problem! :thumbsup2 cheaper and more reasonable for us to actually finish, kwim? We ordered (from AKL) a birthday cake with green fondant, leaves and vines, and a chocolate elephant on top. Vanilla cake, white frosting, and chocolate fillling... hope is turns out as pretty and as yummy as I am dreaming!

You will have to post pictures of your AKL cake when you get back!!!! We'll be staying at AKV with some WDW newbies (at AKL) in December and that sounds like something that would totally work for us. Hope it is as amazing as you are dreaming!
