Official Breast Feeding Support Thread for WDW Parks

I think I will try that! Thanks! I was trying to lay him moreso. Head opposite of rings.

Just got back from my first "nursing" WDW trip!
I thought I would utilize the baby care centers, but seemed I was never close to one when DS need to eat!

So I would find a slow ride or a show and nurse there!!
Some places were,

FInding Nemo Show (AK)
Universe of Energy (epcot)
Quiet benches outside of TSM waiting for DH and DS
Train ride around MK

I am quite proud of myself since I was never a good public nurser the first time around!!
Thought I would share my spots!

Ladies, I have a somewhat off topic but related question.

I had my six week checkup last week, and they asked me what I'd considered for birth control. I know options can be limited while nursing, and one of the things I've considered is the copper IUD. I don't do well with any form of hormonal birth control, I've been on various pills and they really wreak havoc on my physical and emotional health.

Have any of you used the copper IUD and would you give me your experience with it? Thanks.

Btw, I love, love, love the nursing tanks from Target. I purchased a couple of the long length nursing tank, and it really is so comfortable. I'm a little too chesty (ha ha) to go without a bra and just that, but I love them for nighttime and around the house. :thumbsup2

I got the Mirena IUD at mu 6 week check-up and so far so good. I did spot a little for the first month, but nothing that a panyliner couldn't handle, and after all the PP bleeding, it certainly wasn't a big deal. My period hasn't come back yet, and I'm not sure if that is because I'm still nursing (although I'm down to about 4x a day now), or because of the IUD, but either way I'm enjoying it! It was a little painful during insertion, but once again, we're Moms, you can't scare us with a little soreness! Based on my experience I'd definitely suggest the IUD.

Awesome! Thanks!!!
Nursing in it can be tough. With DS1, I'd put his head on the opposite side from the rings, loosen the bottom rail quite a bit (just enough to go under his bottom for support but not tight enough that he could be in it w/o my hand there if we were walking) and keep him a bit more upright than he liked if we were out of the sling. He did much better nursing in the mei tai than the ring sling because, I think, the fabric didn't push against his head & neck as much as in the RS. But I love nursing in the RS since the tail can provide some extra coverage.
Look I had better luck today!
I went to Home Depot with Matt this morning and got a chance to wear my sling while nursing! It was very easy and my hands were free!!! AND I covered my exposed skin with the tail! No one looked twice!

I am considering a IUD. Truthfully, my lack of understanding the whole process makes me scared...:scared1:

Thanks for sharing. I was worried also that if I got the IUD it would bring on a period, which I really don't want, but I'm hoping since I'm breastfeeding that won't be the case.

I got a pamphlet from my doctor's office, if you can't find one, I'll PM you the info. :goodvibes

Question for you guys....I never really pumped with DD, just didn't respond well to the pump and didn't feel I need to. I still don't really want to but there are cases where I feel like I will need to have some milk if I am gone for more than a few hours. DS is 1 month old, weighs 10 lbs and is a good eater. How much pumped milk do you think you give per feeding?? I just have no idea....thanks!

I always left a minimum of 6 oz. at that age. And it always amazed me how much they would eat away from me!

Thanks ladies!! The link is very helpful! My other challenge is that DS does not have a "feeding schedule" as I nurse on demand. Sometimes he goes 2-3 hours without nursing but then he might nurse on and off for 2 hours.....I would say 6oz should be fine though if I'm only gone 3-4 hours....thanks again!!

I would freeze breastmilk in small quantities...like 2-4 oz so it wouldn't be wasted. If you feed 4 oz and the baby wants more, then you could warm up another 2 oz. If you had it all in a 6 oz container, then you have to throw it out if the baby didn't want it. I would use the daisy seal a meal thing.

I was lucky enough to get to hear Amy Spangler talk at a breastfeeding conference. She talked about going to a park one day and saw a woman sitting back away from everyone else on a picnic table nursing her baby. She wanted to tell her how proud she was of her nursing her baby in public and not to hide from everyone. As she walked up to her she could tell the woman was getting defensive, scared Amy was going to belittle her for nursing in public. After Amy talked to her telling her how proud she was for doing the best thing for her baby the woman relaxed and became more comfortable with it. Challange for those of you who aren't as shy as me: If you see a woman nursing in public... do what Amy did. Especially if she's trying to "hide" somewhere. I love seeing breastfeeding moms, it makes me miss nursing my kids.:thumbsup2

This really made me :goodvibes

First time mom here headed to WDW with my 6mo NEXT WEEK!!! This trip just popped up so I am scrambling to see what I will need, things to think about, etc.

This is an AWESOME thread!! I have not BF in public (other than women's lounges, dressing rooms) areas and this just might give me the encouragement to do so!!! I'm SO glad to read about all of your stories and can't wait to take my baby to Disney for his FIRST TRIP!!

So excited to read more of this thread, but I have GOT to hit the sack!!

We aren't headed to Disney until March, but I'm pretty sure that by that time, I will still be BFing. I've BFed at Six Flags, although I would try to find some place indoors then as it was 100+ degrees, but I'm pretty comfortable with NIP. I've never been able to nurse in a sling, but I'm pretty busty and it's not something that's really feasable for me.

I have actually been thinking about getting a nursing tank, to hide my belly, but I hate to shell out that much money for one that I'm not certain will fit me.

If we can make it to Disney still nursing, I will have BF in 10 states. Otherwise, I've nursed in 7 states.

I loved my breast-feeding shirts. I had a problem with any of my "just non-pregnant" belly showing & these hid it well. I also had one of the breast-feeding blankets that attached around my neck. I loved them. I BF in public a lot & never had a problem with these

I would love to include a 'nursing mom's packing list on this thread as a resource to new nursing WDW moms.

Does anyone have any specific items they pack to make the trip easier for nursing in and around the park?

My kids have all hated the breastfeeding covers/aprons. So when I want a little more coverage for myself, I wear something like the Bella Bands (WAHM-made, though). They go around your waist and, when stretched tall, touch the bottom of my bra. No exposed skin but also no cover touching the baby's head.

Before the bands, I loved my nursing tank tops. Same idea, just one more snap I had to finagle.

OHHHHHH!! This would be AWESOME!!!

Come on girls! Get them all out there before friday ;)
