CatrinaBeach your cake from GF is it White cake with buttercream frosting and vanilla mouse with fresh strawberries in it? Or was it custard? I noticed dark spots on the cake and couldn't tell if maybe it was big pieces of strawberries or if the cake was mable?

Both of your cakes are as cute as can be.

Do you think they can do a cake filling half and half like make half of the cake filled with buttercream and the other half with strawberry mouse?

The cake was marble with a buttercream frosting under a fondant cover with the silver mickey heads. the filling was a strawberry mousse cream. There were no actual pieces of strawberries.

I have no idea if they would do a half and half. I think you could ask and see what they say. I talked to Linda at GF to have this one made.

I left a message at Coral Reef a couple of days ago for a cake or tuxedo strawberries. Reginald called back (he was sooo nice) and offered to get a price on the strawberries since they are special order from another restaurant--Coral Reef doesn't make them in-house. I got an email yesterday and the cost of the strawberries is $25 for 6 :scared: , which is what I was afraid of. He attached a cake order form in case we decided on a cake, and I noticed that the only 6 inch available was vanilla/vanilla.

Two questions:

Are the strawberries worth $25? They look beautiful and are different from what I've done for DH in the past, but do they taste as good as they look?

Has anyone gotten a 6 inch cake at CR in chocolate (I'm really just looking for chocolate buttercream on vanilla cake)?

Thanks, all you cake lovers!

I got tuxedo strawberries delivered to my room at BWV and I got 4 for $25 so that's pretty reasonable. They were delicious!

The 6 inch cake at restaurants are the frozen, non-personalized cakes that they have on hand. You don't even have to give the restaurant any notice to order it. It cannot be personalized.

Actually, Coral Reef does require a 24 hour notice for a 6 inch cake, as it says on their answering machine, 48 hours for anything larger. Last year we got one at Mama Melrose, and it was personalized with an inscription (is that what you mean by personalized?) and on CR's cake form, there's a place to write what you want the inscription to be on any size cake. I will probably just call back instead of emailing and speak to Reginald, and just ask about the chocolate frosting. I figure if they go to the trouble to get the strawberries from another restaurant, it's not impossible to get a chocolate 6 inch cake from somewhere else, too! They have been just great about the diver/menu we requested, also!

Actually, then they are the exception as most restaurants have the 6 inch frozen cake on hand and do not need any notice.

Most restaurants have the 6 inch on hand and do not personalize it but I guess if you call ahead they could put your name on it. Most restaurants will not personalize the flavor and filling though of a 6 inch.

It's always best to call the cake hotline though to get the scoop directly from them.

I'm confused and the search function isn't working right (even in California Gold skin) so I can't find the answer, although I know I've seen it on this thread.:confused3 I want to order a birthday cake to be served at the Garden View Tea Room for our upcoming trip. Is Linda the one to talk to for that or should I call private dining at the GF? If it's Linda, what's the correct phone number? TIA!

I would definitely NOT call Linda directly. After reading this thread, I called Linda to order a cake for a friend who is in WDW right now (called over a week ago), and someone other than Linda answered the phone and went on and on about how stressed Linda is to be getting so many calls. I was given the number for GF private dining, and ordered just what I wanted through them. They delivered and set up the cake in the room while my friend and her family were out, and she called me on Friday to tell me how great it was.
The number I called is 407-824-2474.

Thanks! I was worried Linda might be getting overwhelmed. I'll just try the numbers posted on the first page of this thread since I'm going for the cake at the table service restaurant.

Poor Linda...I bet she's about ready to switch over to driving safari vehicles in AK!!:lmao:
I'm not going to try and call her or ask for her directly either.

I didn't either. I figured she might be getting a flood of calls, and since we didn't want anything unique or special, I'd just order through whomever answered. After all, it didn't take any particular assistance to handle our order - we knew what flavors we wanted, were fine with getting the 10", and didn't have any special decoration requests other than a note that DD's favorite color is purple.

Now, if anyone has a super-helpful person over at WL that they'd recommend, I have much more specific ideas in mind for a cake for DS's birthday in January! :rotfl: My little mini-me was looking at the pictures in this thread and decided he wants cake 10c on the first page of the thread. That'll teach me to leave my computer unattended when I'm reading the DIS! :rolleyes1

I called the GF Bakery and spoke with a very nice gentleman (Doug, very helpful!!). Now the card is wrong, was suppose to be sleeping beauty also but Aurora later sent a card. ;)
I forgot to take a pic of the inside, it was white chocolate mousse, yummy....the actual cake part was a bit dry but everything else made up for it!

Ordered our wedding dinner cake today for Narcoossee's on Oct. 22.
We're having an 8" vanilla cake with white buttercream frosting and the strawberry mousse filling. They're going to do a floral design and leave a spot for our Mickey and Minnie cake topper.

I'll post picks when we get back. :cloud9:

Here are the 2 cakes we had made while at WDW this trip (9/15-9/22)

This one is from the Boardwalk Bakery. We were staying at Pop and when we checked in I told them I had a cake that needed to be picked up from the Boardwalk Bakery and they agreed to send someone to pick it up for me and leave it in our room or if our room wasn't ready to store it in the fridge until the room was ready.

It was a nice cake. We didn't end up eating it since we had too much stuff to eat. We shared it with our friends mostly. $75.00

Then this one was for after our vow renewal. We had it at the Grand Floridian Cafe. It was fantastic. I just loved this one. I would definately get another from the GF !! $ 85.00

This had strawberry mousse filling.

CatrinaBeach - thank you for posting the pics of the white fondant with silver mickeys cake. I'm planning on ordering one similar for our 1st anniversary - we were married there last year and had the larger version of that cake and I've been keeping my fingers crossed that we'll be able to get one when we back down in Nov. Of course DH wants me to also check and see if he can get some frozen mickey bars delivered to the room too :lmao:

I just called the cake hotline and got through to Doug a the GF, what a nice guy.
I ordered a 10 inch yellow cake with white choc filling and icing with a Mickey Screen print. The cake is $25 and the screen print $15 for a total of $40.00. I used my visa to hold the order and was told I would pay at the GF Cafe, and I can use my DDE for the discount. Our dinner reservation is for next Sunday so this is really getting exciting.
All in all a very nice experience, I had wanted something with the Pirates of the Caribbean theme, but they did not have anything available. I checked with the boys mom before I called and she said if we could not get POC theme, then we should do Mickey Mouse since we will be in WDW.

Helenk: Waiting to hear -- How did your cake turn out?

I tried to order a cake yesterday, called the YC and the woman was a bit annoyed w/ me. She really didn't want to give me any info on cake options and told me that the 10" cake was $40 and $30 for a screen print????

I just called to confirm my order for the 9th. The CM I talked to wasn't very friendly but as long as I get what I want I'll be happy. Everything was in the system!

I don't have my photos uploaded yet, but I'll post them in the next couple of days.

We had ordered a cake from Chef Mickey's for lunch on 9/21, celebrating DD's 5th birthday. The CM on the phone assured me they could do the white chocolate screen printed standing up Snow White that I was planning to get from the GF Bakery.

You can imagine my disappointment when our server delivers our cake to the table and it's an edible image... not at all what I wanted. On top of that, he delivered it as we finished our salads!! (He rushed us through the entire meal, btw, and I had to flag him down for a drink refill.) It tasted okay, but the filling layers were thicker than the cake layers, I had to scrape some out because it was just too much filling and frosting and too little cake. I won't order one there again. Actually, after having our most disappointing meal of the trip there I probably won't return at all.

On the positive side, we were only charged for the cake, not the edible image. So at least I didn't pay an arm and a leg for it. I didn't complain, btw. I didn't see the point in it at that stage. They couldn't have replaced the cake, DD was relatively happy with it, and I didn't want to start off the trip with complaints. I didn't even mention my disappointment in the meal to my mom until several days later when I'd pretty much gotten over it, LOL.
