Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread

I just ordered DD's birthday cake today. I called the GF Private Dining line, there was an option on the menu for ordering cakes, I think it was "press 0" for help. I got a CM who did her job and took my order, I guess, she did have to put me on hold to ask a question, and I think she got the order as I wanted it, but she certainly wasn't enthusiastic or overly friendly. Oh well, at least my order is in.

We're dining at Cinderella's Feast that night (held in the GF Cafe while 1900 PF is being refurbed). I ordered an 8" cake, vanilla with vanilla buttercream frosting. On top we're getting the white chocolate screen printed stand up thing, Snow White and dwarves, with extra flowers on the cake. Happy Birthday Emilee is to be written on top if there's room after the flowers go on, at least that's what I requested. We'll see what I end up with, LOL. I didn't ask, but it should be around $40 just like the one I ordered last year... $25 for the cake and another $15 for the white chocolate decoration. Again, I guess I'll find out in a couple of weeks. I do plan to call and confirm before we leave home.

I would have gone with a 6" cake if I could have, but she said it had to be 8" to fit the decoration on top. Not a problem really, we'll box up the rest to go or share it with a table nearby.

I want to order a stand up cake for our DD4's 5th bday. Is that what they call it "white chocolate screen printed stand up"? I've been putting off calling (we still have 24 days until we go) because I have no idea how to describe it. I want to perhaps order the Cinderella stand up or maybe Belle. Thanks for any info.

When I ordered the Mickey and Minnie one last year the CM called it a screen printed white chocolate something or other. I called it a stand up thingy when describing it to the CM this time around because I didn't know what else to call it, LOL. I wanted to be clear that I didn't want a lay on thing or edible image or whatever, that I wanted the one with the little easel on the back that's standing up on top of the cake. She probably thought I was a doofus, LOL, who knows.

Thanks for the info. I'll mention it when I call. They'll probably think I'm a doofus too but at least I have more info then I did before so I'll be a lesser doofus, LOL. Thanks again.

Here's what happened when I called GF bakery yesterday. I read on here that I need to have a reservation at a GF restaurant to get the GF bakery to make the cake, ok did that. 1900 Park Fare late breakfast for my son's 3rd Birthday. I called and left a message for Linda on Sept 4th (yesterday) at 10:00am for a cake to be delivered to the restaurant on Sept 9th (5 days later---as I read on this thread, that I need to call 48 hours to 1 week in advance and no more. I get a call back at 4:00pm from her. And she wasn't quite sure she could even DO a cake for me, as she needed more than 5 days notice. :scared1: I said I was told to call back *within* a week (and I *was* told by the Poly people AND the cake hotline people when I called 4 weeks ago to get this taken care of).

And she said, ok we will see what we can do, what did you want? I explained that I saw different cakes that the GF bakery had made and wanted to know if the pastry chef could make my son a pirate chest themed cake. She said oh we don't do that...I said but I've seen all kinds of creations that the GF bakery has done on the web and I wondered if they could *create* something for him. She said I will ask the chef and get back to you. I was left feeling not very hopeful that they would accomodate my request.

So about 30 minutes later she calls back and said they can't make a pirate *chest,* and she made a point to note that she wasn't sure "where I saw that as they dont' have a website "...:sad2: and I said I didn't SEE the "pirate chest" but I saw a whole bunch of cakes that the pastry chefs had made for people on the web (like a cowboy themed cake complete with a sheriff badge and boots made from chocolate!) and wanted them to make me something special. She said, well here is what the chef can do.---She said the cake will be a 10" cake, & you can have the vanilla cake like you wanted with the chocolate ganache icing, and either a mousse filling, a buttercream filling or a fruit filling. (i chose buttercream) and then the chef has a pirate theme for the top, like a sugar pirate chest, sugar sea shells, the chest will be filled with sugared jewels( I think she said that) and chocolate coins.

I said oh that sounds great! And then she said ok so you want that? yes, I do. Ok I will just need your credit card and the cost is $85.00. :scared: I was a bit taken aback, but was in the middle of dinner at Ohana's, and I said ok. After all of this planning I had not expected it to be that much $$ UNELSS I was really getting a custom cake, i.e., a cake shaped like whatever I wanted! yikes! LOL Anyway, so its ordered and we will see on September 9th how it goes.

OH! and I mentioned that I wanted to use my Disney Dining Experience discount card on it and she said I couldn't. I mentioned that I knew quite a few # of people who have used their card and gotten the discount on the cake...and she said well wait to see what the server says at your meal.. I was like huh? ok whatever.

I will just bring my laptop and point to this thread and say LOOK, read this! LOL :rotfl:

So that is my experience. To be honest, I was not happy with the process. In the end I think it will work out, but nonetheless it was confusing and I felt like I was asking the impossible and was asking for something that she never heard of. I think Linda might be getting tired of the calls from people about cakes.

Oh well, that was my opinion and my experience with ordering. I will post a picture of this $85.00 cake. I sure hope its worth 85.00. :upsidedow

We will be down the end of Sept., the week before mine and dh 10th wedding anniversary. I would love to have a cake and suprise him with it when we have dinner at the castle. Any suggestions as to types/flavors of cakes that you have enjoyed?

Thanks,
Andrea

Okay...so here goes!!!
I have posted about this before but, now I'd like some suggestions from all of the wonderful people on this board! I know that you will probably have a WAY better idea of what kind of cakes are out there!
My DBF and I are going to be at WDW from 9/9 to 9/12 (Checkout) and we will be celebrating our 6th Anniversary!
I thought about a Lady and the Tramp cake but, my friend said she thought I should try and do something with a Princess and Prince on it. Do they have any cakes with not only a princess but a prince too? I was thinking maybe either Ariel and Eric or Cinderella and her prince? The other thing is...I don't want to sell a kidney for this cake if at all possible!
HELP!! HELP!!! I know I need to get my order in! We will be staying at OKW Villas (if that helps at all!)
Thanks in advance!! :)

$85.00 - O U CH !!!

I ordered a birthday cake and dealt with Linda in May. Linda must be a busy bee !
I thought the cake was a bit overpriced, but it was my daughter's birthday and you only live once. The cake showed up and was very good. The cost ended up on our dinner bill.
I hope your cake turns out ok. Keep us posted.

Applechips: I hope - and I feel pretty confident they will - that the GF does a fantastic job on your DS's cake. I honestly believe that $85 is reasonable for the labor they will be doing on it. Any 10 inch Disney cake is going to cost $40 - without anything special added at all, as I know you know. That cowboy cake from WCC you mentioned cost $140 several years ago and it was a standard half sheet cake - probably only one layer of cake - with the added decorations. The seashell themed cake on page 1 - the OP mentioned the edible cake topper alone cost $75. Disney is expensive! LOL Possibly, all good cake is expensive. My DS's Whole Foods birthday cake in July was $45 - it was 8 inches and they charge $10 for every 15 minutes of decorating.

(That said, my DH forgot to even ask how much our anniversary cake is going to be. I am afraid. Very afraid. :lmao: )

Looking forward to hearing about it. Post pics here, if you can!

I know the cake I just ordered which is a 10 in with a Mickey and Minnie Bride and Groom topper with white Fondant with Silver Mickey heads on it is going to cost 80.00.

Which I expected to be more since the 6 in of the same thing was 65.00.

I suspect it will be a fantastic cake for 85 and you will be very happy.

I'm even paying 75 for another 10 in with a Goofy figure on it from the board walk bakery. So I think any cake with a special thing will be around that price.

I also ordered that fondant with silver mickeys embossed on it.

Which they forgot to make. "Had no order"
When two days later Linda had the order in front of her. ON with the original order date on it.

Just as an update, they GF sent me engraved champagne flutes as an apology. They are beautiful. I told them I didn't want a gift from them. But they said you're getting one anyway. They were the ones I wanted for the actual wedding, but they wouldn't engrave them and mail them by ordering them over the phone.

I am so nervous about ordering a cake after reading this! This will be our kids first trip to WDW, and my youngest will be turning 6 the day after we arrive. So after reading that I could order him a cake to celebrate, I was so pleased. We have an ADR for lunch at CRT on his birthday and I would like to order him a POTC pirate: cake with either Davy Jones or the Flying Dutchman design of some sort. Yes, he likes the bad guys! I suppose then I will be dealing with Main Street Bakery for CRT right? Has anyone recently dealt with Main St. Bakery for cake orders, or had a cake made for a meal at CRT? We plan on heading back to our resort for a rest after lunch, so there will be no need for the restaurant to store the cake for us. We can just take it with us. Thanks!

We have an 8inch cake ordered for our illuminations cruise from Yatch/ Beach club. I used the cake hotline number and then selected the beach club restaraunts option.

The choices were white with choc filling and white choc icing. Or chocolate with dark chocolate icing. We are going with the white. They did offer the Mickey head one for $45 but I went with the $25 cake instead. We should be pretty full from dinner, with 9 people if it looks close I just wont take a piece.

We will be staying at the GF and would like a cake for the room for DD's b-day. Do I call the cake hot line or the GF bakery number? I was a little confused with some posts about having left a message for Linda then others said they called the cake hot line number. Thanks!! :thumbsup2

Disney cakes seem to be going up in price. DH's Figment Cake was $40 for 10 inch back in June and wasn't very tall but delicious!

My Brother-in-law's birthday is the day we arrive to WL. I understand that they don't deliver the cake until we check in but if I order it and have it delivered after we check in, do we have to be in the room or will they just put in the room?

Thanks!

I had ordered a cake for our anniversary while staying at the BCV. We were not in the room when they delivered it. It was nice coming back to the room and surprising my husband.
