Oh my goodness I am going to call for the Star Wars Cake too. My little guy will be turning 8 while we are there and he will love it! :cool1:

Do you think it is worth calling back or maybe just less choices due to being at Chef Mickey's vs. GF restaurant?

I'm sorry you are disappointed. Choices offered are tied to the bakery making the cake. Most deluxes (GF and BW/BC & YC are the exceptions) actually have limited bakery service and so there's some variation in the flavors/fillings/toppers offered from resort to resort. A year ago I tried to order a cake for a special dinner at California Grill at CR and was given the same info as you. I ended up getting our cake elsewhere on another day as a result.

Here are photos of my DD's cake. We ate at Citrico's and I asked for a Halloween theme. DD loved it! Once we were ready, they took it away to slice it and came back with the white chocolate witch on the plate for DD and we all had a slice with one of the decorations on top. It was white chocolate filling. :teeth:

How did it taste? Looks like fondent? Would mind telling us how much it was and was it 8' or 10'??

Thanks for sharing!!

It was a 10" with fondant and cost $85. It was absolutely delicious, very light and not too sickly sweet.:)

I got a birthday cake on my birthday delivered to our room at the Poly for my 40th. Gabby set it up 2 weeks in advance...she has a crazy work schedule and is only home a few days out of the month, so she ordered when she could, which might have been too early or too late considering the results. She asked for a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and wanted Pumbaa on it. She was told that it would be an extra charge, but was not a problem.

Well, the cake arrived while we were out at Epcot all day. The concierge staff or someone from dining must have arranged it for us. I opened the box and while the cake was pretty, I wondered what in the heck Gabby was thinking in ordering me a chocolate cake with pink decorative piping and a flower!?!? :confused3 So, not my style. I thanked her for the cake and told her how pretty it was.....no, I would have NEVER said, "What were you thinking?" OMG, she was livid. She checked the receipt and the upcharge for Pumbaa was not there. She called and was told they didn't have time to make it a Pumbaa cake. (EXCUSE ME?!!??!) :headache: She asked why no one called her for an alternate decoration choice, they had no answer for her. I didn't know it but they had called her while we were at Epcot about delivery of the cake and made no mention of the change even at that point. I think that ticked her off more than anything. They had her cell number.....she ALWAYS has her cell phone on.

Two weeks advance notice was not enough for a cake with Pumbaa on it. :sad2: For all I would have cared, they could have stuck a plastic toy on top and it would have been fine. Not that the flower wasn't pretty, but it wasn't what Gabby had wanted for me. Pumbaa is my favorite character for a variety of reasons. Even my car tag says Pumbaa on it.

After seeing all of the cool cakes in this thread for months/years, it was kinda disappointing, since I doubt that I will ever have another birthday at WDW. :sad1: The cake was good, not the best ever, but good. We shared with the concierge staff at the Poly that night. I will try to post a picture of my "almost was a kick butt Pumbaa cake" in a few. I have heard that things get messed up if you order too early, but with two weeks to plan to make a Pumbaa or grab a cheap toy, you think they could have managed. Maggie

Does anyone know if Hoop Dee Doo does cakes? Any pics if so would be great. Same with Akershus. And finally the CRT. OTher then the castle cake and slipper. Thanks bunches.

I ordered our cake for our anniversary trip next week! It's the white fondant stamped with silver mickey's. We had the bigger version at our WDW wedding last year. I had wanted it delivered to the room on our check-in day, but because it's the "anniversary topper" and we're staying at WL it just wasn't possible. So after some ADR rearranging, I got us a reservation at GF Cafe basically so we could get our cake  I think I spoke to at least 5 people this morning trying to figure out what my options were and all were really friendly and helpful. So whew! that's done. I'll probably call next Monday or Tuesday after we arrive just to confirm. It pained me to have to throw away our left over wedding cake last year, so I'm really excited that we're able to get a smaller version.

We are celebrating my husband's birthday on this trip. His birthday dinner will be at Brown Derby, but it will be the night before we fly home. We don't really want to have to deal with leftover cake. Is it bad form to have his cake on another night? Say, the night we are at Le Cellier? (Or would a cake at Le Cellier be a bad idea?) Maybe we should have it at a place that has the least spectacular desserts?

OR we could just get a really small cake at Brown Derby...wonder if they would make the grapefruit cake in a birthday cake?

Any thoughts?

Also, I haven't read through the entire thread yet, so any suggestions on ordering (number, types of cakes offered, prices, etc) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Meg

If anyone has any very recent "romantic" cake pics I would love to see them!! Trying to plan a cake for DF to be delivered to a restaurant or to our room during our honeymoon in January. Actually i'm trying to decide between chocolate mickey & tuxedo strawberries or a cake.... I'm thinking cake, and maybe a few pics could help persuade me!

I would like to order an anniversary cake for the couple we are traveling with in December:love: . We will be doing the Character Breakfast at Chef Mickey's and was wondering how I would go about ordering a cake to be presented to them.:confused3 :

Thanks for your help

I feel your pain. I ordered 3 weeks in advance at the Poly for OHana. Look a few pages back for pictures. My parents belated 40th anniversary cake and it looked (and tasted) like a cheap grocery cake, full of pink roses.

If your disappointment was even half of what Gabby's was, I am soooooooo sorry! We learned a lesson, don't buy overpriced cake from a Mouse ever again. I was disappointed more in that if they were going to take away the decoration of choice, then why didn't they CALL?!?! If it was going to be some generic cake, she could have just gotten the cheap $12.50 cake delivered at Kona instead. But, they didn't even give her the option of changing out the plan or alternate decoration. To me, if someone is going to the trouble of arranging for a cake to be delivered to a room or a restaurant, it's got to be a special occasion that would warrant some extra fuss and pixie dust. Don't screw around and cheap out or be lazy about it. In doing so, you are basically slapping your customers in the face and that is soooooo not Disney to me. Maggie
