Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread Part II

I am planning on ordering the mini-castle cake at 1900 Park Fare for our 1-year anniversary trip in October. I want to surprise him with this, but bummer is that my husband is not too big on sweets (I KNOW, RIGHT!?!)..... he will have a piece I know so that's why this size cake will be perfect for the two of us..... but I am a BIG fan of cheesecake and he is not..... i would have LOVED to try the cheesecake mini-castle as I've heard such good reviews on it, but I'm thinking I should probably just get the chocolate because at least he will have some then.... =( I know, selfish me thinkin I should get the cheesecake all to myself! lol I wish there were a way we could split half and half/one side cheesecake, one side chocolate! LOL =)
I saw somewhere that someone ordered the castle cake with a cake layer and a cheesecake layer. Maybe that could solve the problem!

With the increase in cost, decrease in satisfaction (I have seen more people complain in the last month than satisfied cake-buyers), I decided not to get the cake for my mom. I'll get her a blueberry treat from a bakery instead. :)

This has probably been addressed before, but--how is the tipping issue handled on cakes delivered to you at your table service restaurant? I am assuming you are paying an 18-20% tip on the cake that is served to your table. Correct?

When I called Chef Mickey's to get info on ordering a cake, I was told that the price of and gratuity for the cake would be added on to our bill (we had more than 6 people, so tip would automatically be added.)

I can't verify that, because we chose to order from the Boardwalk Bakery and take it to Chef Mickey's with us.
Can't wait to show you the pics and tell you about it. It was really a good cake!

Just thought I would let everyone know that Sara Lee six inch cakes are only used in locations that do not have a bakeshop. All resorts that have an in-house bakery are still making the six inch cakes fresh!!

When we got our cake at Chef Mickey's there were only three of us and an 18% gratuity was automatically added to the bill. I was annoyed with that since our server was awful and already got the 18% tip included with our meal since we were on the DDP (last year's version with tip included). Then on top of that he got an 18% tip on the cake that wasn't what I ordered (not his fault, I know), after bringing it out while we ate our salads and with no knife, forks or plates. Ugh. He didn't even offer to light the candles for us, though he did bring a few candles out with the cake.

Hooray!!

Wanna clue us in on which locations have an in-house bakery? I'm thinking Yacht & Beach Club, BoardWalk, Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian... but what about the theme parks?

Yacht and Beach, Boardwalk, Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios

So does that mean all restaurants in those hotels/parks will not have the Sara Lee cakes? I thought I read on here that Chef Mickey has the Sara Lee cakes?
Thanks for your help

So tell me how this tip thing works?

I was told the cost of the cake was $70...I just assumed that was final.
Are you all saying that I have to pay more because it's being delivered to us at dinner in Narcoossees?

I'm confused...:confused3

i was told they have both cakes and you need to specify which you would like. a frozen or a fresh cake. you do not have to order the frozen ones, as they tell me they wont decorate them.

Is there any way for me to order a birthday cake and pick it up somewhere in the MK?

Does anyone know whether I can order a birthday cake and pick it up somewhere in the MK?

She didn't say anything to me about the tip just plus tax.

I have a question for you if you don't mind. I just ordered a cake from there and they gave me only about four options for my cake. I really wanted red velvet. Did you get many options?

That was me, i merged the thread asking about cakes with this one, hence the link to this thread in that thread...follow that? :rotfl2:

I updated page one with the new cake prices as reported and lurkyloo sent me a pm with the 6" cake info with the locations that are still making them

I also updated prices based on what I have seen here

If anyone has any other information to update that first post, please pm me

thanks everyone!!

Oh, and we(the royal we :rolleyes1 ) have decided to not get a cake for our anniversary dinner. We will enjoy the desserts at the Yachtsman (and elsewhere) and we will purchase a forever souvenier marking the occasion instead.

thanks everyone:yay:

We're doing a family trip in Jan days before my twins turn 5. We're going to celebrate it down there so the gp can be there.

Anyway, I'm a little torn about what cake to order (if any). They are twins, so of course they're used to sharing a b-day. BUT it is very difficult to find a "theme" they both like. DD is very much the disney princess. DS is more into pirates, buzz, and the like. Two cakes is out of the question.

Has anyone seen or heard of any dual theme cakes like a Princess/Pirate cake or some more gender neutral ones? They did Nemo for their 3rd b-day, but that might be an option at Coral Reef.

Does anyone have a picture of a Nemo cake?

Any other suggestions?

TIA,
Heather

I am fully prepared to call a manager to the table in a situation like yours and tell them that while I have no issue with paying tax and gratuity on my custom cake--I expect tips to be earned by having service, plates and clean utensils delivered without an attitude!

Thank you to all who answered my gratuity and tax question!
