Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread Part II

I called ASmo and spoke to someone in the office I do believe. She said that I need to call 7 days before we arrive and order a cake. She wasn't able to give me cake sizes flavors or costs . She insisted that 7 days out I can get all that information. So I know they offer it, but I'm big on planning and would like to know my options. If I don't like the options, I will have to get a cake elsewhere.
I did contact the one responsible for cakes at the Coral Reef. We are having a nice lunch there with a surprise for dh (diver and menu) I don't mind doing the cake then and there, but I can't find a picture anywhere. She emailed me this info...
Coral Reef
6" cake - no personalization $21.00 vanilla cake with whip cream icing

These cakes are personalization -
8" cake with flowers and border $32.00
8" cake with picture of character $42.00
Mickey Mouse head shaped cake $48.00

Cake flavors are chocolate or vanilla
Icing flavors are white butter cream, dark chocolate or whip cream.

I can honestly say I would be more inclined to get the flowers with border cake for price and for the fact dh doesn't have a favorite character. He isn't gaga for Disney, he just enjoys family time and whatever makes us all happy. And that is DISNEY! lol ;) But I want to do something for him. I want to fuss over him for this one day. I want him to feel special and pampered a bit.
Now, I know DH and DS enjoy Star Wars. I am just trying to think what DH would think is 'cool' for a cake. He is very much into computers and nerdy stuff. lol Not sure waht to do.

I had more options than that for my CR cake...I'll go back and see if I can find my initial email from the girl. I was pretty specific in my initial request to Debbi so when they contacted me they had a good idea of what I wanted. When I changed my mind (from Cars theme to Nemo) there was no problem at all with that! I know the girl's name I worked with is Theresa and she was amazing!! I will contact her again when we eat in EPCOT to get a cake!

Alrighty, so if I were to order a character cake, i finally found out that DH's fav character is the Mr Potato head from Toy Story :happytv: Like what? Couldn't be simple like Mickey Mouse! I had to be very sneaky to get this out of him!
So has anybody gotten a Mr Potato head cake before?? Any pics? :rotfl:

How cute would that be!?!?!? Call the hotel 7 days from when you check in as well and request a b-day card and balloons from Mr. Potato Head-he'd love it and the best part?? They're FREE!!

Our upcoming trip is going to be a very special one. My brother, his wife, their two boys, and his wife's mother will be joining us for our Thanksgiving holiday. My brother hasn't been to WDW since 1985; my sister in law went once as a young child, and my nephews have never been. There was NO WAY they were going to Disney for the first time without Aunt Melanie. ;) So, we will be celebrating a first trip for my nephews (7 and 4), my brother's 40th birthday, and my sister in law's 40th birthday. We have reservations for Chef Mickey's the first night they arrive. I would love to do a welcome/Happy Birthday cake for my brother. Growing up his favorite characters were Chip and Dale. Has anyone had a Chip and Dale themed cake done? Oh, and my brother despises chocolate...will NOT touch it at all. (What is wrong with him??? :confused3 )

Now, for my sister in law, I'm thinking of either something delivered to the room at AKL or getting a cake from the Boardwalk for her birthday. We are eating at Spoodles one night and that would be perfect for the Boardwalk option. She is a chocolate girl through and through. So, any suggestions for that one? She's also pretty girly, too, so perhaps some girly theme for her cake.

I'm open to any suggestions!

Sounds like an amazing trip's gonna happen!! I think CM's is pretty specific about what they can/will do. I know you can get a Mickey head cake there and I think a very plain vanilla/chocolate cake but I can't recall off the top of my head.

It's not actually his birthday, it's just a thank you for working so hard sorta thing. Do you think they have thank you cards? lol His birthday is in July, so there is no way I can try to justify that it's his bday. Also, I will be requesting something similar for the kiddos. DS bday is Dec 19, and dd is Feb 18 (but if we don't celebrate her bday too she will feel totally left out I think. Plus, how do you explain that one got to go to DW for his bday and the other only got an at home bday party lol Oh i can hear the taunting when they are older already lol)

I think it is Theresa that I had gotten an email from. I have since emailed her back asking about Mr Potato head. And I chuchle to myself at the very thought of that being DH's pick. DH is funny. :lovestruc I hope she can do it!!

OH! ALSO! (sorry!) I was hoping for a choc cake with some nice rich choc icing with strawberries. Sounds so yummy. DH likes his sweets RICH and SWEET. I can't believe his teeth dont fall rightout sometimes. ;) Do you think they can offer the strawberries?

Not sure what happened to my last post with pictures....we'll try this again!

I wasn't going to post these here until they were in my TR but since someone's specifically asking about them, I'll post them :goodvibes This cake was AMAZING!! It reminded me of a wedding cake-it was so good! Both boys (bday boy and daddy and younger son who's a Nemo freak) LOVED their cake!! The reactions were priceless-Corbin's face lit up and Carter (the baby) screaming "SHISHES!! SHISHES!!" I've got the reciept at home somewhere for what I paid for the cake but don't recall off the top of my head. I'd order a cake from here again if they can garuntee (sp?) the same taste and quality!

Corbin (older boy) loved this cake because he could "cut" it with his fork (he loves doing this now that he's figured it out!) and he could still "poke" it and eat it without it falling apart. This was a success for him!

He chose not to eat his chocolate triangle on the outside-he said he didn't want to "overdo" it and have too many sweets! :lmao: :rotfl2: This kid-I tell ya! I think the hunk of cake you had was enough or the two and a half doughnuts he ate at TH one morning but who's counting when you're at Disney! :rotfl:

One thing though, the image on the top of the cake I don't think anyone ate. I had to poke the knife into it on the top of the cake to cut it-it was pretty thick. Everyone just scrapped it off the top and left it on their plates...it didn't hurt anyone or anything-just a warning when trying to cut the cake.

For those looking for a Disney cake at "real world" prices and considering Publix (off property) we had a surprise party for a friend Saturday night. Her cake below is from Publix. I forgot to take pictures of the inside-it was two layers (every cake I've gotten from them has been) with a layer of the top icing in the middle. The little sugar decorations I added on there from a package you can buy in the baking aisle. The cake cost $30 (which I thought was a bit higher than I remembered). It was chocolate cake with fudge icing-she loves chocolate!

DS4's birthday cake was also from Publix this year:

DH's cake was also from Publix:

This is another cake from Publix:

Again, these are NOT Disney cakes-they are from Publix. Just thought it might be helpful to show people an off-property option if they're looking for one. Publix has been wonderful about DS4's peanut allergy-we've never had a problem at all! They do the Disney decorations so that's a bonus as well. They've always been very good each time we've had them as well. HTH!

I would ask about a "thank you" card when you call about the birthday cards. If not, get him a birthday one! Who's gonna know?? :confused3 It's about having fun and if that'll make more fun, then do it!

Theresa's great. I did almost everything via email then called her with my cc number to do the order. I'd ask her about the choc cake and strawberries-I don't see why they wouldn't but you never know really I guess. That might be something you have to hit the Boardwalk Bakery for or something :confused3

Can't wait until we go back so I can have more cake! :rotfl:

This was my DD's cake at Coral Reef this past August. It was chocolate cake with chocolate buttercreme. It was rich, moist and delicious.:thumbsup2

OMG I so want a bite of that chocolate strawberry cake YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im so drooling right now!! :worship: :rotfl2:

Nemo cake is just TOO cute!! I would be totally happy with something like that with a picture of MR Potato Head. In Chocolate with Chocolate frosting with Strawberries. YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, since looking at this thread I am going out tomorrow and making the hugest cherry cheesecake ever. Im going to be 50lbs heavier before we even get to DW!!! The food Porn thread is just as terrible!! lmao!

Now, I was wondering something. I am trying to help a friend from Miss. get reservations in Dec at the Coral Reef. We actual met on DIS and have become great friends. Haven't met or phoned or anything, but we just clic kwim? So I am hoping bad to help her with these reservations. If I can get the reservations, I want to get a cake or something small for them for their meal. She is going the week before we get there (:confused3 cruel act of fate) So just something to say have a wonderful trip or something. Am I restricted to cakes? There aren't any of the Cinderella's slipper desserts there right? I'm just trying to watch the $$ side of it all.

This was only 6 inches. Perfect for the 3 of us. :thumbsup2 We actually had to leave some behind.:sad2: We only paid $12.50 for it but unfortunately they recently raised the price to $21.00.:scared1: Would I order it again.? You betcha.:goodvibes

This cake looks SOOO good! I'm not a chocolate person but I'd eat that I think!

Well, now that you know what you want! :rotfl:

I totally know what you mean! Disney needs to put out a cookbook or something so we can try and concoct (sp?) these things while we're waiting around for their trips!!

What a sweet idea! I'm actually mulling over something similar for a similar friend right now. We've met here on the DIS and just connected-she's an amazing person and I want to do anything I can to help make her trip more special. I don't see why you couldn't do this so long as you're able to pay for it up front or maybe call the day of?? Just so they're not stuck with the bill. (that would be my luck!)

No they're a grocery store, like a Walmart kind of but only groceries-do you have a Walmart in Canada? (sorry I've got no idea!!!):confused3

If you're looking for something in your room, call your hotel about in room dining and see if they'll do anything for you.

If you're going to have a car, it might be worth a trip to Publix to pick up a cake if you had to and couldn't order one at Disney or were trying to watch your budget. Try http://www.publix.com/food/catalog/Bakery/DecoratedCakes/Home.do for a peek at what they're able to do. There are a lot of different options if you're able to get off property and want something pretty specific and don't want to or can't pay Disney prices.

That cake LOOKS awesome!!! I think this is the size we will order for our honeymoon in June!!! Thanks for sharing!

Ok, so hopefully I will be making reservations for our December trip this week and I really want to have a suprise Christmas cake for my mom ready on the night we arrive when we plan to have dinner at 1900 PF. What are the most recent prices for the smallest cake I can get with an idable image?

I *believe* (someone please correct me!!) that when I called about a month ago, the smallest I could do was the 8" which was $32 and the screened image was another $10 but that was in EPCOT so I don't know if there's a difference at the GF places. I'd call to be sure so you can get a quote in case any pricing changes-you've already gotten an order and quote.

Good luck!

That is the same that I got quoted at $1900 Park Fare for our 8' inch cake next week! I asked to have a LA Dodgers image on the cake..... $32 plus $10 for edible image.... it might even be $15, cant remember.....

So this cake is not considered a personalized cake then? Did you order it before you went to have the name tag on there? Or did you order it when you got there? I thought any cake with your name on it would need to be a larger cake.

In this particular case I ordered the cake along with the menu and diver. It was for my DD's 18th and I only told them I wanted choc/choc. Some times they write an inscription on the plate or like ours they place the chocolate birthday banners onto it. We liked what they did but if you want a more personalized, ornate cake you have to go up a size. Like I said this was just right for the 3 of us. Hope this helps a bit.:goodvibes
