Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread Part II

As i mentioned in the other thread, i feel that this is unnecessarily complicated. This method has worked for 3 food porn threads and 2 cake info threads.

My eyes are going nuts trying to look thru ALL these posts!!! I've looked thru over 50 pages of posts (from the end pg 156 to 126 on this thread and the first 50 on the other thread) and I can't find any pics of tink on cakes. (just found ONE! on pg 126!!!) (I'm just not looking to pay TONS for a small cake for my DS and me) If anyone has any pics, please PM me with them.

You were only one page off from finding the most beautiful Tink cake I have seen so far. Try page 125.:goodvibes

here's a thought

having a picture only thread is an issue because (as you all know) things would get muddy - pics would end up on both threads, conversation would start on both and in a very short time, and we would be back to where we started

so what i think we should do is to start clean, lock this thread, start a new one and have 2, one that is open and one that is locked for pics.

The first thread would be for general cake discussion, we can create new info section on the first post that i can maintain as changes occur. posters would also post pictures of cakes with the relevant info here (that will be moved into the pic only thread)

the second thread will be for pics only. What other info do we want to capture here? Price, location, anything else? Date?

I would keep the second thread locked so that it remained pictures only.

Your thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions? :teacher:

I like the idea. I actually don't really find myself checking this (or the food porn) thread for pleasure. Like Carol23, my head starts to spin going through all of the text to get to the pictures and with the birth of tabbed browsing I'd just pull up both threads into different tabs if I needed to reference both at the same time.

This is JMO and I'll go with the general concensus.

We will be having my daughter's birthday there in Sept. I need it to be really easy to get a birthday cake for her while staying at Pop Century. We will have to little ones with us and I want to know what kid of desserts I might get right at Pop Century....Thanks

If you are willing to do a locked only picture thread, I think that's great. If not, this thread is ok. It does take a while though for those who just want to skim through pictures...Location would be most important to go with a photo - and then price if it's available...That would be plenty.
Thanks!

I think this will be greatly appreciated. I think what would be included is picture of cake. Date purchased, where is was bought and price Thanks.

I LOVE this idea!
If you are willing to do that it and maintain it, it would be so helpful for those who just want the bare facts.

A link in the first post to the current conversation thread would allow people to then ask questions.

I think the first post of the pic only thread should also still contain the same info as the first post here.

I think any relevant info given about the cake would be helpful - price/date/where ordered from/where received
If it was something extra special, what description was used to get it
"gold foil Mickey/Donald" -- Sugar flowers (I'm not sure if that's the right term for those beautiful realistic looking flowers) -- mini wedding cake -- Etc.

Sorry to be so obtuse, but how would we post our new cake pix in the picture-only thread if it is locked?

This is what she said: posters would also post pictures of cakes with the relevant info here (that will be moved into the pic only thread)

I take it to mean that the cake photo thread will be locked so that it is only photos and only she can post to it. She will be the one to put/move them in to that thread.

We would post on the info/chat/discussion thread our questions, comments, info AND photos and she will quickly move them to the cake photo thread.

What I'd like to know is are all the already existing, older photos going to be moved in as well? I hope so.

It's a lot of work to keep the discussion separate from the photos but it sounds great! :)

I'd love a pics only thread. I think it's a great idea. One other bit of info I'd like to see added is cake, filling, & icing options, if possible. I know this will be a lot of work, so I'll be happy with whatever gets added.

Could someone please oh please post me a picture of the Grand Floridian basic birthday cake? THe one that is $45? Or send me a link of the page that has the pic in it. TIA

Debra

I think there's one on page 154. Take a look. Check out page 124 and page 126, too. That should giv eyou and idea of what can be done.
HTH!

They do have 6 in (i believe) in the freezer/refrigerator in the food court, but try calling the cake hotline number and see if they can do a special cake and have it delivered 407-827-2253

We celebrated our DS's birthday @ Biergarten on Saturday. I had preordered a cake through the cake line. I couldn't have been more disappointed in it. It was by far the worst birthday cake our son has had in his 17 yrs. of birthdays. I ordered an 8" cake with a disc w/ Dopey on it, personalization, & all chocolate. The price I was quoted was $41.00. The cake we received probably was 8". I looked like an 8 x 8, square, single layer cake. It reminded me of an Easy Bake Oven cake only a little bigger. The decoration was a copied, edible image w/ Happy Birthday ------ written on it. The image was bigger than the cake, so it curled up on the sides. This wasn't a disc in any way, shape, or form. It tasted like a flourless chocolate cake, which was so dry that the icing seperated from the cake. We all got a small piece & didn't want more.

I will say Biergarten's staff couldn't have been nicer about the situation. I told our server this wasn't the cake I ordered, because I didn't want to be charged $41 for what we received. She said the price they were given was $34. That wasn't the quoted price for any of the options I was given. :confused3 She asked if we wanted it boxed to take with us & I said, "No thanks". When she returned with our bill, they had removed the cake charge. We didn't ask for or expect that. She took it upon herself to speak to the manager about the situation. She kept apologizing, even though I told her repeatedly it wasn't her fault. The Head Chef even came out to speak to my DH about it. (I was in the restroom.) My DH didn't know much about it, because I had ordered it. He said the Chef couldn't have been more apologetic about us not receiving what we expected. I wish I had gotten their names, but we didn't. :guilty:

We did take a picture of the cake. I'll try to get my DH to post it later.

Not sure that I'll be able to get it....

I'd like an 8" yellow cake with raspberry cream? in the center, Buttercream
(or whipped cream) frosting with either a standup tinkerbell or a screened tink on the cake. NOW, I'm not going to be at the GF all week. I will be having a meal (on my bday) at the Yachtsmen. I could have the cake earlier in the week at a different location, but not sure if I can get the cake that I want without going to the GF for a meal (staying at the Coranado)... I couldn't find a number to call for the Yachtsmen to ask them either...
What do you guys think???

The Yacht & Beach Club has a Pastry team on site - call the cake number and you might have to ask to speak to a pastry chef for a custom cake and see what they can create for you. If you give them your information it can be delivered to the Yachtsman Steakhouse They have awesome cakes - I have never been disappointed!! Good Luck!!

Just jumping in here - but why not have a table of contents on the first thread with links to specific posts with pics?
for example

I know it would require the starter of the thread to keep up with the info. If everyone would promise to send me a piece of their cake I will do it. :goodvibes

I ordered it for our Oct trip so I'm sketchy on details. I called Grand Floridian Bakery number (pg 1 of this thread) I asked for a Tink - it was extra, and a chocolate chocolate cake (I'm thinking it was at least $50 but we had such a horrible server and I complained they did take something off the price - we had to wait 45 min for the cake and she seemed to wait till dh had to go to the restroom to bring it out and when I asked to wait - she called other servers over who sang, lit the candles and then she cut the cake - and dh wasnt there!
