Official Avengers Half Marathon Weekend 2015 Thread

Two quick questions:
1. In earlier posts people mentioned running with sunglasses -- where do you keep / how do you run with your sunglasses before the sun comes up??
2. We are staying at the Howard Johnson - is there any place close by where we can buy water and gatorade??
Thanks

I just keep mine on top of my head. I usually wear a headband so I tuck the arms in the headband to keep them secure.

Just barely found this thread (usually the runs I do are over on the Disneyland page). My fiance and I are doing the 5K only, as it is kind of our anniversary run (last year was our first run of any kind together, and the date happened to be on the anniversary of our first date, so of course we have to keep doing it now). We aren't runners at all but we will do the Star Wars 5K with my kids in January also and he and I did the Disneyland 10K this past labor day. I am not sure I would do another 10K but a 5K is just fine. :) We are slow so we will be way back.

So, never thought about it, but just occurred to me there could be different practices at each park. Do they sweep for slow runners in the 5k at DL? I've only done Princess before, where I know people can definitely go over the 16 min/mi pace, but, I am wondering if I need to watch the pace a bit more with my kids out in California? I was planning to take it easy, as its the first of 3 races for me, but if we need to worry about sweepers it would be good to know! I doubt it, since it starts at 5:30 am, but just wanted to be sure I am not making an incorrect assumption.

I believe the 5k is still considered an untimed race, although staying in the 16.00 min/mile range is probably a good idea. I've never heard of them sweeping a 5k.

What I heard about a previous 5k/10k in California is that they've re-routed runners who are behind the pace to get them to the finish line faster; so not technically sweeping, but also not a full 5k or 10k either. I don't know that they were doing this right at the 16 min/mi mark or for people pushing 20-25 min/mi, and it's possible that was a one-time thing rather than a regular practice. FYI as one possibility though.

I walk and I stop and take pictures, so I am in no way fast. Probably takes me about an hour from when I start. I've never been swept or rerouted in the three Disney 5Ks I've done. The worst that happens is if you are slow, the character photo lines will be closed by the time you get to the two that are later in the race.

One more question. I'm used to WDW races where transportation time can be significant. I'm staying at the DVC villas at the Grand Californian. For a 5:30 start time, I'm hoping I don't need to leave the room at 3:30 like WDW, but how long does it take? I'm not a pre-party person. I just like to show up, go through security, use the bathroom one last time, and get to my corral. And I don't care how far up in my corral I am.

I'm getting nervous for the 10K. I am doing the 5K the day before. In my training, I have yet to do two longer runs back to back (never mind walking around the park in between). The furthest I've gotten with my daughter is 4.5 miles. We will hopefully get 5 or 5.25 done this weekend. She is having two teeth pulled tomorrow (not loose at all) so I'm hoping she is feeling good enough to do a long one this weekend. I still don't know what we are wearing. Looks chilly in the am based on early forecasts - yup - I am starting to stress - need a plan...

@DVCFan1994 if you're at the Grand Californian it shouldn't take you more than 10-15 minutes to get through bag check/security and making your way into the corral. It's maybe a block or two walking.

Fabulous! Thank you for that. Very excited for my first trip back to DL in almost 15 years!

It's been fabulously cool the last two nights on my evening runs (67 is cool to this California girl). I think I forgot what it was like to run in pants! For the timing of the race, at least right now it looks like mid-50s for the mornings right now. And I am a little closer to the beach than Anaheim is, so it's warmer there. It sounds like pretty good running weather to me!

It was 60s this morning when I took our dog out for a walk. That's shorts and t-shirt weather at this time of year in KY. :rotfl:

Yes - I'm in Arizona so with no sun shining and below 60 - my hands and ears are freezing.

And I went out in capri running tights and a tank yesterday in the high 40s :) But I am a New England girl. I was cool at the start but perfect mid run. I was actually testing clothing for the races next week. I'm hoping mid 50s is where the forecast stays. That is my favorite running weather. I have a 10k this Sunday and the temps for that will start in the 30s. Brr.

I was amazed at how good it felt to run with it that cool. It was great. I forgot how it felt. We've had quite the heat spell around here ... again, for us. :)

We are doing the 1/2 ....Is 4:15 an ok time to start making our way to the race from the Howard Johnson's??
