Official Avengers Half Marathon Weekend 2015 Thread

Thanks, managed to put mine in. Not sure what they formula they are using, but they have given me a new estimated finish time that is over 5 minutes quicker than my half PR

I put in 2:19:44 for my time and got an estimated time of 2:20, so I think mine was spot on!

Unfortunately I didn't have an eligible half marathon time that I was happy to use as a proof of time so I used a 10 mile time, perhaps this is where the calculations got done, potentially, pushing me up higher than I deserve

I submitted a 10K time and it gave me an extra 5 min as well.

To my understanding, RunDisney uses a McMillan formula.

Below is a link to a calculator.

As it estimates you will not keep up the same pace for distances less than a half marathon, your time is NOT merely looking at your pace time and assuming what your finish time will be for a half marathon distance at the same pace.

I'm really hoping we see some more Avengers at the races this year!
Scarlet Witch, Quick Silver, Vision, Falcon... I'd be great with any of them...
It would even be fun to have Peggy Carter at the Captain America 10k
I was the comic version of Scarlet Witch last year, and may repeat again this year. I'd love to have a pic with one (though I did with a cosplayer on the river trail.)

I guessI need to go enter my POT!

For anyone with Southwest as an option for travel, the flight schedules are now open for the month of November! We've booked our flights both ways -- pleasantly about $50 less than our trip two years ago! :goodvibes

Just booked my flight!! $425 R/T. I'll take it going Coast to Coast, literally. :jumping1:

180 DAYS!!!

Booked mine at 6 am this morning It was under $400 total pp. We are flying from Providence to San Diego to spend a couple of days there first. Returning from LAX. That's less than our flights to Orlando last December., for more than double the mileage;) Very excited:). One more week until I expect to get the ok from my surgeon to resume normal physical activity. Will be happy to finally really enjoy this lovely spring weather we've been having and get out for a run! Nervous how much fitness I might have lost in my last five weeks as a couch potato!

The half has inched its way up to 75% capacity, and it looks like runDisney agreed with me on the difficulty of attracting more runners at the third tier price of $230. That pricing was to have been effective from May 6 forward, but they've apparently extended the second tier price of $215 out through July 21 now. Third tier pricing is now on or after July 22, although with POT deadline being August 4 it seems that's about where they expect to finalize the shift from registration to event preparation. Unless they can slip some really motivational runDisney ads in with the new Avengers movie, I'm thinking they're still going to fall short of selling this out.

Hi All,
My name is Janet and I have signed up for the half marathon during the Avengers weekend 2015. I was going to wait until next year but decided to go for it this year. I have only ever run 5K and 8K races before and I actually mostly walked the races, rather than ran them. I am nervous but excited. I will probably fly to So Cal as I live in Northern Nevada and the roads can be quite questionable during November. My goal is to do one runDisney race per year and maybe go for the C2C in about 2 years. Nice to "meet" you all!

Congrats on signing up for your first half marathon @abbeyroad6282! You have plenty of time to train and prepare for the extra 8-10 miles, whether you continue to mostly walk or split more walking with running. Do make the time to increase your mileage steadily and learn what distribution works best for you -- being prepared will let you get the most enjoyment out of any run but especially a runDisney run! :thumbsup2

One positive thing about the half not being filled up yet... I think those who will be signing up over the next few months will be people new to runDisney and maybe even new to races. This past Friday the official Marvel and Avenger twitter accounts tweeted about the half-marathon. From the comments on both posts a lot of Marvel fans seemed interested, although many seemed a little nervous about the length. For people not familiar with runDisey or big name races aren't aware of how early registrations happen (and usually fill up) so hopefully we will get some fun first-timers signing up.

Speaking of late comers, I wonder if Ant-Man will be on the course too. His movie comes out in July, and he will be joining the Avengers in future movies.

It is nice that those who maybe have missed out on runDisney runs in the past have the extra time to maybe get in as first-timers. I'm thinking there won't be very many who do, though; that high price is going to look higher with each passing week as it corresponds with less and less time to prepare for it (physically and financially).

For those of us already registered, though, that may be a couple thousand fewer runners to share the road and character lines with. :scratchin :)

Has anyone been up a Pasta in the Park party? Since there is space available and it looks like we'll be arriving early enough to participate, I was wondering if it would be worth trying it out.

For those that have attended one, how's the food? Also is it really crowded or not too bad.

@jayhawk4 While you wait for anyone to discuss again, you can check out page 12 of this thread. A few people chimed in earlier about the Pasta Party in terms of what they liked or didn't like. Without reading through them again, the takeaway as I recall it was unimpressive food quality for the money but arguably worth the money for the character picture opportunities (if that's your thing).

Saturday I ran my 2nd half marathon in 2:06.... 4 minutes under my previous PB !!! :cool1:

Now it's time for hard training for my RunDisney Tour de Force 2015/16.......

I agree. As the PP who's a big fan of the party, even I have to admit that the food does not justify the price. But, the character interaction was great for us. I understand that Thor and Captain America aren't currently meeting in DL, so that would make it even more worth while for us.

Hello everyone! I'm signed up for Infinity Gauntlet Challenge. I am pretty excited. I've been building back my running after a pretty lazy winter. :smickey:
