Official Avengers Half Marathon Weekend 2015 Thread

From runDisney Facebook page: "In honor of National Running Day, the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon will roll back to Tier 1 pricing. Register today before the price reverts back at noon ET on Friday, June 5.

I'm running the Disneyland Half in September and after registering for the January's Star Wars Half yesterday, I figured I'd sign up for the Avengers Half since there was still opening and it would be a good event to do as an in-between. Not that it was a ton of money but I must say that I'm a little bummed that they offered this discount the DAY after I signed up. A day early and $16 short, it seems. LOL!

Yep, they've gone back to the Avengers banner on Twitter and trying to drum up sales there as well. They've maybe learned something about waiting too long after waiting five months to try and pickup Goofy sales last year didn't cut it. Looking at how many people started the race last year and their 77% total so far, that's around 2,400 open slots for a ballpark of $477,600 in revenue sitting on the table...

Southwest finally got their website fixed and I was able to book my Avengers weekend flight for $98 round trip from Sacramento! They extended the sale through today for anyone that couldn't get on!

Glad you shared your experience @Davidg83! I'm not checking our flights daily, but usually only look on Tuesday or Wednesday when I do... however, I figured it couldn't hurt after reading your post and re-booked our flights to get a $128 credit with Southwest! Thanks! :D

Yay! I'm sure that credit will be put to good use for the next runDisney event! Haha

Help everyone, signed up for the 10K. This is the first runDisney event for me, looking forward to the training and the big event!

So the runDisney page recently updated the Avengers Half percentage to 81%. So they have basically gotten 10% in the past two months. I'm not sure if they are going to be able to sell out... They still have 5 months before race day but unless they really step up the marketing I think it will be tricky. I know they have been really promoting it on the runDisney twitter and the Marvel twitter account, but I think it will take more than that. (Maybe reaching out to more Marvel fan blogs, etc. its hard to explain how awesome runDisney is in 140 characters)

Also, in theory they should be posting the training programs sometime next week since they say they will post them 5 months before race day... But after they slow posting of the Disneyland Half Schedules I wouldn't be surprised if we will be waiting until early/mid July for those.

It seems like they didn't release enough slots for the challenge. Maybe next year they will allot more spaces in the 10k to the challenge. I'm guessing that'd help fill the half faster.

I just signed up for the challenge through a travel agent, and I'm super excited about the race! Love the theme, and also love the idea of being at Disneyland when the Christmas decorations are up. I'm honestly kind of surprised the half hasn't sold out yet, but I suppose mid-November is not the easiest time for most people to travel, especially considering Thanksgiving is just around the corner.

Glad to see the training plans are up... A little sad they don't have individual logos for each. I was excited to see what the Infinity Gauntlet and Captain America logos will look like. (I have a good guess, but I'm still excited to see what they do)
Guess we will have to wait until they reveal the medals. Maybe at the Disneyland Half weekend.

Yay for finding this thread! I signed up for the half. It's my first, and i'm both nervous and very excited. I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone who participated last year and picking up some tips.

And while running, I have probably thought way too much about my costume ideas.... ;)

Checking in! I didn't plan to do this one again but I'm a little addicted to inaugural race bling (Tink, Dumbo Double Dare, Avengers, Rebel challenge, Pixie Dust challenge) so I'm back for the Challenge...making it a girls trip with my sister running the 10k with me and my future sister in law and niece for the half!!

Still looking to have a little more elbow room with ~17% of the spots available for the half marathon. Fewer people following us to the breakfast buffets after the race, too... :rolleyes1

So, I am starting to focus on what to wear for the races. anyone know where I can get a (ladies) Captain America shirt made out of tech fabric? I want to do Captain America for the 10K to stick with the theme, but cannot seem to find a shirt that is a fabric comfortable enough to run 10K in!

I haven't found any specific woman's shirt, but I like the men's under armor alter ego line...the compression ones come pretty small and there are boy's sizes as well.

I have a cute Captain America shirt, its a boys tech tee and fits well, but I'm thinking of wearing my Minnie Mouse skirt that I wore for the WDW Marathon this year. I'm going for the Coast to Coast challenge. Would it be wrong to wear Minnie Mouse seeing that it is Avengers??? It is still Disney... Thoughts??

I was thinking of modifying a Minnie Mouse costume, so that it is inspired by the chorus girls who sold war bonds in CA1, but I think anything Disney is good! -- Suzanne

Nothing wrong with going Minnie Mouse whether it's Avengers or one of the other themes. They are Disney races first and foremost, so Disney characters should always be a welcome sight! :)
