Looks like I get to join you guys for real instead of just lurking!!!
My dh just got a new job (Hooray!!!!!!!!) and won't have any vacation time until next winter because of the 6 month probationary period. He also is going to be living with my grandma 2 hours away from us during the week so he doesn't have a 4 hr a day commute. This job is very very good for us, but of course it stinks to be apart during the week. We need to see how it works out before we consider moving though, and my dd only has one more year of high school after this so we don't want to move until that is finished.
Anyway.. he was saying he'd prefer not to go to Disney next winter again, but if I would like to take the kids for a budget trip this summer to go ahead and we'd make that their birthday present.I have enough points for free flights one way, some time off, and we're doing it!!!
I haven't picked a date yet but Disney here we come. A mommy/kiddos trip!!
We have booked our third family trip from 8/4 to 8/11. This will be my sixth trip overall. Staying at POR for the second time with DH, DS (11) and DS (7). Very very excited....but so far away!
We have some concerns about the heat. Our other two family trips were in April. However, I've been there in august and used to live in Miami in my 20's. I hoping to find ways to keep us cool and calm, but would love to get everyones input here too. We've never done the afternoon break thing. I'm thinking this will be a necessity on this trip. Other than that, just excited to be planning once again!
Does anyone have any recommendations for August dates for me?
A little background. We've gone the last week of August 4 or 5 times (I can't remember) and we were booked for the same week last year but cancelled because we got a puppy. Traditionally the last week of August was free dining and that was the best discount for us. It wasn't included in the free dining last year, and I am not expecting it this year.
So that kind of frees us up to go anytime in August really. The last week of August is low crowds, but I don't want to go over Labor Day weekend because dh (who is not coming to Disney) will have that long weekend off and we will use it to go to the cottage.
So for those of you who have been other weeks in August. Are the crowds really bad? Should I stick with as close to the end of the month as I can? I am well aware of the weather and heat, and we always have a plan. I guess I am more concerned about discounts and crowds. I wasn't expecting to go until today so I haven't researched a thing.
We will book a value, but hope for a decent discount to upgrade to a mod. We really like the mods.
Are you sure that you don't want to go the last week of August? There''s a rumour (that some of us are crossing our fingers for) that MNSSHP will be starting August. 29 the this year. That's the Friday of labour day weekend. I know it's just speculation at this point but it's something to consider. Don't you think?![]()
Really?
That would be quite the draw!!
I don't know though. Since we are only seeing Dh on weekends for the forseeable future, I think we need to make sure we are home and ready to head to the cottage with him that weekend. I am leaning towards the 16th to the 23rd.

Ok, I've got a Question Of The Day.. Are you and your family doing anything fun to countdown your trip??

We don't. Not because I don't think it would be fun, though.....but because I can't find any kind of countdown that might appeal to an 18 year old.
