My most Magical Disney Memory WOW!!!!

I guess it would have to be last December. We had an early ADR at AK Tusker House. We were walking over the bridge into Africa on our way to brakfast which BTW is my favorite breakfast in WDW. A CM stops my DW and DD it was her 7th bday trip and she just stopped my Dw to complement my DD which was nice and wish her a happy bday. I was getting aggrevated becasue i wanted my Krispy Kreme Donut and Jungle Juice at Tusker house. Needless to say my DD was carrying on a full fledged convo witht his CM about her love of giraffe's BLAH BLAH BLAH....we go to bfast and aswe come out there is this CM again and she is the one that has the garbage picker upper stick with a an ear piece looking ery official and....ASKS US TO BE IN THE JINGLE JUNGLE PARADE ON A FLOAT WITH MINNIE AND RIGHT BEHIND A GIRAFFE....that was pretty cool, and now I was ok with it because i had eaten...later that day before the parade DD lost a tooth as well....anyway thats mine

Looks like I get to join you guys for real instead of just lurking!!!:cool2:

My dh just got a new job (Hooray!!!!!!!!:cool1:) and won't have any vacation time until next winter because of the 6 month probationary period. He also is going to be living with my grandma 2 hours away from us during the week so he doesn't have a 4 hr a day commute. This job is very very good for us, but of course it stinks to be apart during the week. We need to see how it works out before we consider moving though, and my dd only has one more year of high school after this so we don't want to move until that is finished.

Anyway.. he was saying he'd prefer not to go to Disney next winter again, but if I would like to take the kids for a budget trip this summer to go ahead and we'd make that their birthday present.:cool1: I have enough points for free flights one way, some time off, and we're doing it!!!
I haven't picked a date yet but Disney here we come. A mommy/kiddos trip!!

Conratulations on your dh"s new job, that's wonderful! I know you'll all make it work. Have a wonderful trip, happy planning!

My sons were 5 & 7 last time we were in Disney. Collecting pressed pennies was a favorite activity for my sons and husband. The goal in every park was to find as many pressed penny machines as we could. We even have the folders. Anyway, we spotted a machine under the sorcerer's hat in HS with a family already using it. While waiting my husband ran off to get more change. He was gone forever and in the meantime the family finished up and we started to press.

My 7 year old was adament about turning the crank himself, but this one seemed stuck for some reason. He pushed and pushed and wouldn't let me help. My boys and I were so focused on the handle we didn't notice a big white glove reach in until his hand was turning the crank for my son. Goofy had spotted us and came to save the day. The boys and I just stared. Couldn't believe it. Of course, my husband missed the entire thing and it happened so fast I didn't get a photo, but I'll never forget my son's face as he looked up at Goofy. So awesome.

We have booked our third family trip from 8/4 to 8/11. This will be my sixth trip overall. Staying at POR for the second time with DH, DS (11) and DS (7). Very very excited....but so far away!

We have some concerns about the heat. Our other two family trips were in April. However, I've been there in august and used to live in Miami in my 20's. I hoping to find ways to keep us cool and calm, but would love to get everyones input here too. We've never done the afternoon break thing. I'm thinking this will be a necessity on this trip. Other than that, just excited to be planning once again!

Hi :wave2: and welcome!

This will be our 5th August trip in a row. We tried the afternoon break during our first year when our kids were 6 and 3 but it never worked out for us. Once the kids hit the pool mid afternoon they were in the pool for a few hours and then they were so tired we never made it back to the parks.

Now that our kids are 7 and 10, we like to hit the parks early and stay during the afternoon and head to the pool after dinner, or have a lazy morning, go for a swim and head to the parks early afternoon and into the evening.

We don't love the heat and we try to stay out of the direct sun as much as possible. But we love Disney in August! :yay:

Does anyone have any recommendations for August dates for me?

A little background. We've gone the last week of August 4 or 5 times (I can't remember) and we were booked for the same week last year but cancelled because we got a puppy. Traditionally the last week of August was free dining and that was the best discount for us. It wasn't included in the free dining last year, and I am not expecting it this year.
So that kind of frees us up to go anytime in August really. The last week of August is low crowds, but I don't want to go over Labor Day weekend because dh (who is not coming to Disney) will have that long weekend off and we will use it to go to the cottage.

So for those of you who have been other weeks in August. Are the crowds really bad? Should I stick with as close to the end of the month as I can? I am well aware of the weather and heat, and we always have a plan. I guess I am more concerned about discounts and crowds. I wasn't expecting to go until today so I haven't researched a thing.:worried:

We will book a value, but hope for a decent discount to upgrade to a mod. We really like the mods.

Are you sure that you don't want to go the last week of August? There''s a rumour (that some of us are crossing our fingers for) that MNSSHP will be starting August. 29 this year. That's the Friday of labour day weekend. I know it's just speculation at this point but it's something to consider. Don't you think? :yay:

:scared1: Really?
That would be quite the draw!!
I don't know though. Since we are only seeing Dh on weekends for the forseeable future, I think we need to make sure we are home and ready to head to the cottage with him that weekend. I am leaning towards the 16th to the 23rd.

16th to the 23rd is still an excellent week! :thumbsup2 We arrived at Pop last year on the 18th and the resort and the parks never felt too crowded.

Ok, I've got a Question Of The Day.. Are you and your family doing anything fun to countdown your trip?? We have a countdown chain. And my daughters and I have a weekly one night sleepover in the basement where we catch up on all out Disney movies in order to get reacquainted. It has been 3 years since our last trip. Tonight is Sleeping Beauty!!

Cant wait to hear everyone's stories and tips...

I guess I'm a day late with the QOTD, but I'm going to share anyway ;)

On my kids very first trip the World in 2005, we were walking down Main Street and happened upon CM "Scoop" we stopped to chat with him and he asked where we were from. My DD (aged 6) proudly announced "We're from Canada!!". He told her was just looking for a nice little girl from Canada and asked us to come with him to City Hall!

What happened after that was truly a dream come true - My daughter was named "Princess for the Day", taken to Main Street Emporium, dressed head to tow in Cinderella dress, shoes, crown, gloves (you name it) but 5 "Ladies in waiting", signed ALL of their autograph books (she was a princess after all!), then she was taking behind the scenes with her Prince (her daddy!) to board Cinderella's glass carriage with white horses to carry her in the main street parade! Announced throughout the park was "Hear ye, hear ye, hear, ye - Princess Kylie Mallet from Kitchener, ONtario, Canada is our Princess of the day!!" After the parade we were given front of the line access and private meet & greets with every princess and special treatment every where we went! We will NEVER forget her first trip!!!princess:

YAY! pigletto is back!!! Welcome, my friend!

Congrats on hubby's new job....what awesome news :thumbsup2 .

As for what weeks would be best? Well, the last two weeks of August, of course ('cause that's when I will be there :rotfl: ). That way, we can watch for hurricanes together in the days before our flights depart. Its much more fun to panic with friends  .

One of my favorite memories from Disney World was a few years back, My DD was around 4 and DS 8. This day we went to Magic Kingdom in the morning for a couple of hours then headed back to the room to rest and nap. Although we didn't feel tired i am so glad we napped as well as we did. You don't realize when in the moment just how much you could use a good nap in the middle of a disney vacation. We decided that we were going to head back to MK for EMH they were from 12-3am this time. Wow were we really going to take the kids out till 3 am? You betcha!!
The place was empty! Ok so we did all the rides blah blah walked right on, rode them over and over! you know same ol story. Ok this is the part that makes me smile the most! We were walking through the castle, the only ones there. DD decides she needs a prince charming, she starts saying "where is my prince charming?" "I need a prince charming!" as she slowly chases DS all around the castle trying to make him her prince charming. These kids played this game forever it seemed like. The fact that DS was so into letting his sister try and make him her prince. The fact that it was not at all an interest of his but knew how much it was to her. He is such a great big brother. Main street as a back drop and the mosaic castle walls surrounding them as they played with each other, magical!!
Later that night as we were wondering around DD spotted pluto and his long ears! she was steps ahead of us as the park was empty and she loved that she didnt have to be right by our side. She walks up to pluto and starts covering his eyes with his ears, playing peek a boo. The two of them played forever! Until we spotted the main mouse and his lady! of course we had to see them too! We were enjoying our night so much just watching the kids frolic around MK without a care in the world nothing could have made our night better. Until Minnie gives DH a great big Kiss!!! oh was Mickey jealous!! Of course Minnie was blushing after that!
We have done so many extras at disney over the years from private boats to BBB and Pirates, character meals and tours. Nothing will ever compare to the Magic our family makes in just living in the moment and making memories that bring tears to my eyes. The joy that my children have experienced over the years at disney world is a joy that cant be compared. This is why no matter what our situation we always find a way to be able to go back to the most magical place on earth!!

Ok, I've got a Question Of The Day.. Are you and your family doing anything fun to countdown your trip??

We don't. Not because I don't think it would be fun, though.....but because I can't find any kind of countdown that might appeal to an 18 year old :rotfl: .

Lol.. I can see that. Does a countdown app on an Iphone count? Dd17 always has one of those;). We just started planning yesterday so we don't have any sort of countdown. When the kids were younger we made all sorts of calendars and sticker charts though.
