Ugh.....this is what we woke up to again this morning:

Yes, I still have my exterior Christmas decorations up.....it hasn't stopped snowing and icing all month long enough for me to take them down  .

I am serious fed up with winter!!! Bring on August!!!

I would like to try renting DVC one day but am discouraged thinking summer will still be too expensive and it is the only time we can go.

Late August should be more reasonable than early August....so as long as your trip falls in the latter part of the month, it might be worth pricing things out :) . You may be pleasantly surprised!

I go back to school for the last week so it has to be the second to last week which seems to end up the bargain time just the last few days of our trip usually. Plus my parents are coming- might be hard to get them in board for something different.

For DVC, August 16-31 was a little less the the rest of the summer. Then your right, they really go down starting September 1.

Anyone have a Disney Visa? I was just looking at the perks and I don't remember seeing this one. I'm not sure when they added it, but there's a 10% discount on the following restaurants when using the Visa or (I believe) the rewards redemption card:
  • Jiko*
  • Sanaa
  • ESPN Sports Club
  • Flying Fish Cafe*
  • Kouzzina by Cat Cora
  • Shutters at Old Port Royale
  • The Wave
  • Trail's End Restaurant
  • Citricos
  • Grand Floridian Café
  • Olivia's Café
  • Boatwright's Dining Hall
  • Turf Club
  • Artist Point*
  • Whispering Canyon Café
  • Captain's Grill
  • The Hollywood Brown Derby*
  • Hollywood & Vine*
  • Biergarten Restaurant*
*For locations where it is noted to see restrictions, the discount does not apply to the following dates: 11/28/13, 12/24/13, 12/25/13, 12/31/13, 1/1/14, 2/14/14, 3/20/14, 5/11/14 and 7/4/14. Subject to restaurant operating hours and closures. Restaurant seating is subject to availability.

The dates make me think that we'll have to make sure the offer carries over into August, but this is pretty cool as someone who will be paying OOP.

I just posted this in the resort thread, but wanted input from the August crew....

We are currently booked at Pop. We are a family of 4 and our children are small- 5 and 3. I wanted to try something different and was considering switching to AOA, but would have to do LM because I cannot justify the cost of the suites and my son is young enough that I don't think he will care that it is technically a princess room (he is the 5 year old and he may care when he sees the Cars area.....).

Here is what is scaring me- the LM rooms seem FAR from the Nemo pool which has the spray ground and food court close by, so that is where we will most likely want to be as opposed to the LM pool.

Is it as far as it seems on the map? Thoughts? We are staying standard at Pop, but in the 70's closest to the Hippy pool is where we stayed last time and requested this time- didn't seem like too bad of a walk.....

Help!
___________

I have never stayed at POP but I have stayed at AoA twice (both in August- LK first time then LM) and honestly I didn't think it was that bad. The walk through the LK courtyard is nice and the Big Blue is worth it. Plus, the LM pool is right there and its similar to the Hippy Dippy. We compared POP and AoA and I'm very happy that we've gone with AoA twice. Also, your son might really enjoy the Cars pool, which is the furthest pool away from LM but not too far from the Big Blue.

You might be surprised. The rental sites have points calculators for you to estimate your cost, you could always start there. We went with the DVC Rental Store and have been very happy so far. Our travel consultant has answered all of our questions quickly and booking was very easy.

Intrigued. Can you still get the free parking at the parks? Also, if room discounts come out are they applied to this kind of booking? I'll have to play around with this (DH thanks you very much ha).

Yes free parking at the parks. Also, I read that when you stay with points at a villa resort, parking at the hotel is also free. I do not believe that room discounts would matter when booking with points. And tell your husband he's welcome

HaHa!!! Don't feel bad.... I still have my Christmas tree up inside.....and plugged in :rotfl:

I seriously can't stand the cold and snow anymore. I try to fool myself into believing its still the festive season to save my sanity. :scared1:

That is so beautiful!! Then again, I might not feel like way if I had to deal with it on a daily basis, like you do. I live in North Texas, near Dallas. Our Winter weather is very bipolar and doesn't like to have Winter weather every day, but bounces between Winter and Spring like weather. Like tomorrow, we'll be in the 70's and on Monday we won't get out of the 30's.

Looked into renting DVC......if we were staying mod I think it would be worth it, but lo and behold the value is cheaper an will be even cheaper when the discounts come out! Darn!!

We got another 8" of snow today (after that photo was taken) before the storm finally passed :sad2: . A neighbouring community had so many accidents and vehicles disabled on the side of the road, that they declared a state of emergency. And there's more white stuff on the way tomorrow. I am long past the point where I can see the beauty in the snow....but I can see where our southern friends have a whole different perspective. Wish I could send you down some. LOL, I really do!!!! :rotfl: Your indecisive Mother Nature sounds far kinder than ours. We seem to have one distinctive weather pattern this year. Freakishly cold with lots of snow and ice.

If I even THINK about complaining about the heat in Orlando in August, someone feel free to slap me silly :joker: .

I wish I could take some of it. The only Winter precip we've had was an ice storm. It still closed everything down for several days. We've only had one Winter where we had snow on Christmas. I think we had two or three feet or snow, and that was a ton for us. One of these days, I want to take my boys some where with enough snow for a proper snowman.

As far as the August heat, I can hopefully bring enough stuff with me to help not make it so miserable. Last year, we went to WDW the week of Friday the 13th in September. We used handheld fans to help keep us cool, and it helped some. For this next trip, I am thinking about buying one of those handheld mini-ACs.

Wow! This is great! I had no idea and never would've looked, just thinking it was the same ol same ol. I even have plenty on my rewards to easily cover a few meals, so I'm good with whichever card they need. Thanks!

Oh Gina I hope it passes for you soon, but please don't send it west lol, we've been in spring like conditions for two weeks, though it will snow here tomorrow! I've had a horrid time with my migraines during these weather changes though I think I'll manage a little longer rather than deal with the snow!!

I'm worried what this weather phenomenon we've been experiencing this year will do for our summer!!!
