QOTD:

How does your family get to Orlando?

Do you fly? Drive? Take the auto train? Or something else? (though I can't think of what that might be :scratchin)

If you fly, have you purchased your airfare yet?

We fly. I have not purchased airfare yet because we generally fly Southwest and they stubbornly haven't published their fares. ;p I have a ton of points right now, so we may fly free. If I get really low fares, I'll bank those points for future travel.

We are taking the AutoTrain! This will be our third trip on the AutoTrain, and our second trip using the AT to get to WDW. We really enjoy the train - eating/sleeping/showering on a train overnight is such a unique experience. It doesn't save time, but it's a bit cheaper than flying (we squeeze into a family bedroom :crowded:), saves us a huge chunk of the drive, and lets us overpack to our hearts' content. I even bring my drying rack for all the bathing suits!

We fly out of Milwaukee. We flew out of O'Hare once and don't think I will ever again. It wasn't terrible, but the drive back home after the trip was a pain, and I don't think it wound up cheaper because we did a park sleep fly thing. Nobody slept that night before! We were exhausted.

When I was a kid we drove it every year. My grandparents were in fl as were my aunt uncle and cousins. I think about doing it now and kinda cringe. It'd be cool for the kids to see the country that way a get a real sense if distance, but I just can't face it. lol!

I too am awaiting SW fares for late august. It's driving me crazy. I should have enough points to fully cover the airfare. I'm hoping for early departure going and late back as one ways. I hate layovers! Oh, I also get the early bird check in. It's so worth it to me to not worry about going online at the 24 hour mark.

We usually fly out of Pearson but are trying Buffalo with Jetblue for the first time. Although the fares weren't as low as we'd hoped we paid for it before our dollar really plummeted and bought at the lowest fare, so we still saved enough on 5 tickets to make it worth it. We're about an hour from Buffalo but hope the easier customs will make up for it. Here's to hoping our dollar picks up before we have to pay off our trip! I wish we were close enough to drive - I just can't seem to face a 20 hour trip. Even 12 would seem more manageable!!!

The last couple of trips I have made with my family, we have driven.

This trip, I am flying and driving. I am flying from DFW airport into Atlanta to meet my friend. We will drive from there to WDW.

I am seriously the worst thread hostess ever!!!

I promise to get caught up at some point but I am super glad you are all here chatting and planning!!!!

So busy!!!! :faint:

And to answer the QOTD - We always fly! It's a 3 hour flight from NH. :thumbsup2

We always fly either Southwest out of Manchester or Jet Blue out of Boston. We actually prefer Jet Blue out of Boston, even though we are about 50 minutes outside of Boston. We live in Manchester, so the airport here is only 5 minutes away, but we like the Jet Blue planes (the tv's and snacks and all).

But, this trip will be SW out of Manchester. Just waiting for flights to be released. We have a $1110 credit that needs to be used by end of September so that will be used for this trip! Just need to pick the dates.

We always fly.. 95% of the time direct from YYZ (with seat sales when possible) :). Occasionally on warm weather trips, out of BUF

But.. Like so many on the thread I'm waiting on Southwest to release that last week in August & hoping our dollar doesn't add too much extra to the fare....

Fingers crossed!

I've been using my southwest card for absolutely everything for 2 years to get free flights for me and DS. Their schedule only goes through June right now, but I'm anxious for it to come out. I'm hoping by some miracle I'll have enough points to squeeze my nephew in there and save my mother the cost.

If we do end up driving, we may consider taking the AutoTrain. It sounds like a fun experience.

Hi everyone. Starting to get excited for this summer with all of this cold weather here in Canada. We have decided to change our resort this summer and will now be staying at POR. We still have the same dates, August 19-26, but with a PIN code have recieved a discount which makes our stay there cheaper than at AOA. We are also excited to now be travelling with another family and they will be staying with us at POR. My two DD's (6 and 9 when we travel) will be so excited to have a friend with them.

Ha, we were all just dreaming of disney last night with this deep freeze we can't seem to shake. That and all the ice has parks, rinks closed and recesses cancelled so the kids are stir crazy! I'll take Disney in August anytime! Let's hope this winter ends before April!

Anyone else get the new pin through the mail? 35% off deluxe from 8/17/14 through sometime in September. There is also a free dining option but that expires in March.

I had a pin one time attached to my name but had no idea. I just called to see if I do for August....and I don't...but it is worth the phone call to ask. They won't tell you that you have one unless you ask:)

Hello all! I'm a returning team August member from 2013. I already spewed my excitement all over the FB group that my fiance and I just booked for the first part of our honeymoon- 8/22-8/26. We are staying in a studio room with a boardwalk view at BWV on rented points. It was our first time using a DVC rental company and we were a bit nervous, but so far we are very pleased.

All of these freezing cold days make me homesick for disney even more, but wedding planning has us busy! Happy to be a team August member again :)

Mousemommy1! Glad to have you back! I was thinking of you the other day (in that "wonder where the heck she disappeared to?" kind of way :goodvibes ) and wondered if your August trip that was moved to an April trip that was moved back to an August trip might have been rescheduled to a different month again :) .

I just posted this in the resort thread, but wanted input from the August crew....

We are currently booked at Pop. We are a family of 4 and our children are small- 5 and 3. I wanted to try something different and was considering switching to AOA, but would have to do LM because I cannot justify the cost of the suites and my son is young enough that I don't think he will care that it is technically a princess room (he is the 5 year old and he may care when he sees the Cars area.....).

Here is what is scaring me- the LM rooms seem FAR from the Nemo pool which has the spray ground and food court close by, so that is where we will most likely want to be as opposed to the LM pool.

Is it as far as it seems on the map? Thoughts? We are staying standard at Pop, but in the 70's closest to the Hippy pool is where we stayed last time and requested this time- didn't seem like too bad of a walk.....

Help!
___________

I stay at pop in the 50's second standard and love it. Close to everything and we use the bowling pin pool. It's never crowded.

I would like to try renting DVC one day but am discouraged thinking summer will still be too expensive and it is the only time we can go.
