I am getting so excited for our trip, but I haven't started counting days yet since we are not going until very end of August. I have started shopping though and am continuing adding to my list. Do you guys thing we'll need misting fans?

We really used them on our last trip. I love the ones I got at Walmart. They are small enough to attach to a bag or belt loop with a carabiner. Just be sure to pack extra batteries!!!

we don't leave until 8/19 but I already brought the suitcase up and threw in some things I bought like ponchos and shorts, sunscreen. I am so ready to go. Our first trip alone together and our first trip on site. We're staying on POR. Anybody stayed there?

I don't mind planning which days we'll be in which park but I wish we didn't have to pick times of our Fps. Now that we're onsite I think we'll go back to the room midday but I'm not sure. I'm thinking of riding our favs standby in the am and getting FP for the evening. Does that sound like a good plan? We're staying 10 days for the first time. I'm just so excited!

We stayed at POR in January 2009. Lovely resort. We were in the Alligator Bayou section...we were very happy with the location, as we enjoyed the "vibe" there more than the mansions (where we expected to be, as a family of 3).

The staff didn't knock our socks off, but the food court was great and we loved being so close to DTD. We took the boat there almost every night.

We stayed at POR for the first time last year and were also in the Bayou section. It's still a running joke with us that they took one look at us at check-in and sent us straight to the Bayou! For whatever reason, we were at the absolute farthest corner of the property. We couldn't stop singing the song from Princess and the Frog, "Going down the bayou...going all the way!" We had a great time, though, and the POR pool is now my daughter's favorite. I also enjoyed their food court and we loved the Tiana murphy bed. I hope to try the mansions one day, but the Bayou definitely exceeded our expectations!

I was super paranoid about this too. I don't know if my daughter will nap or if we'll go back to the resort or not. It sounds like people are having a pretty easy time of getting extra FP after their original 3. You're going late enough in august that I bet it won't be super packed. You could probably use 3 in the morning and then book more for your afternoon when you're ready. Just make sure you book the "big" ones for the morning, because I bet they will still run out. In 10 days, you should have plenty of time to do what you want!

that's great to hear!

has anyone gone in August before? we've always gone on Feb break and it was cool out. I've never been to Florida in August. I'm in NY, I don't even wear shorts, I wear capris. I had to go buy shorts, lol. I bought a little fan to keep in my purse.

This will be our third consecutive August trip. We have also travelled to Orlando during December and January.

Its hot (hotter than the face of the sun hot!), but I still wear capris, as long as they are made of lightweight fabric. We try to spend a LOT of time in the pools, which helps combat the heat. Its definitely a great time of year to take advantage of all the fun at the waterparks :) . And its also important to listen to your body, and be sure you are staying hydrated and have breaks in the air conditioning (even if its just 15 minutes in a gift shop).

One thing we love about August is there's never any question about "I wonder if it will be warm enough to swim?". And packing is easy because all you need are light shirts, shorts/capris, and swimsuits. Leaving all the hoodies and jeans at home means more room for shopping! :goodvibes

:yay::yay::yay: We just decided today to take a quick trip down to WDW August 10-16. We are DVC members but the trip is 2 weeks before we can borrow our 2015 points so we've decided to stay off property at Windsor Hills and drive down from Windsor , Ontario. I didn't think we would get a chance to go down this year, so I am SUPER excited!!! Looking forward to reading this thread to get great tips. :yay::yay::yay:

WOOT ! WOOT!! We are in the 70's now.. Have to get in gear and finish off our ADR's Got the Froggy Togg towels last week from Amazon so getting ready for the heat..BRING IT ON!!

Ugh! I've spent the last several months happy with my plans, park days and ADR's. Now, 76 days to go I'm obsessed with rethinking and changing nearly everything! Why can't I leave well enough alone? Anyone else questioning their plans in the final days?? Do you make the changes or stick to your original plans?

Lol! I've changed my dining plans at least a dozen times. I've gone form defniitely sit down meals at lunch time to ensure cooling off.. or moving them to dinner back at the yacht club

On saturday, i added hoop de doo (after months of saying i wasn't going to do extra shows)

My family has stopped listening to our "official itinerary"

trying to put my energies into thinking about fast pass now. Even though i can't book them for another 16 days, at least i'd stop messing with the meals
:rolleyes1

I'm alittle freaked out by picking my fp+. What if I make the wrong park choices.. Ugh!!

First of all, out of all the resorts Ive stayed at--POR will always have a piece of my heart~::yes:: It was our first on-site resort we stayed so it will always be special to us. love, love, love it!!~ 2nd of all, we are August Disney people--HOT, HUMID, and briefly STORMY in the afternoons...but we love it!! Stay hydrated, you'll be fine......and last but NOT least.....I'm from the capital district as well :goodvibes

You guys are making me second guess my initial schedule... We are going the last week in August. I originally have MK scheduled for Monday and HS for Thurs (both don't have EMH) or should I switch them so that on Thurs I can take advantage of Early EMH at MK? I have only been once last summer when I stayed on site and could take advantage of EMH and we didn't so I don't know if it is worth it. I know the crowds are low that week and we didn't have to wait for rides too long last year, so don't know if it worth it to switch. I like going to MK the first day, but I know so does everyone else. we will have park hoppers so maybe take advantage of EMH on THurs and do HS in the afternoon? Thoughts please, no one else in my family is a planner or wants to hear my ideas :-)
