****OFFICIAL August, 2012 (PART 2)****

Ok, on a totally different topic, I am a bit miffed. I had to find a phone number for AoA to ask a question and looked for about 15mins before I found one. In the mean time, I called the Disney general reservation number to ask the question or get the phone number. Well the CM wouldn't give me the number and asked what my need was. I told him and he said he could put the request right on my reservation. So I said thank you and hung up. Then something in the back of my head said, no, you better call them also just to check. Well, I got a totally different answer. After finding the dang number I asked the CM and she (who didn't even answer the phone with Hello, Art of animation or anything but hello) :confused3 had to put me on hold 3 times to figure out if they can do my request. Now I will admit that my request isn't normal but also not completely way out there. Our Ds is autistic and wears pull-ups to bed because he still has bedwetting issues due to that. But even with those on, it still gets on the bed. I don't want to ruin a mattress at a resort so I asked for a mattress pad. I would think they use those anyway to protect their beds. By the way, no they don't (again :confused3)?? So the CM comes back on the phone saying they don't have them and can't get them and the only thing they can do is put a shower liner under the sheets, really??? or another idea, I can bring my own???:furious: Am I wrong to be miffed??? :sad2: I want my son to not have to roll around on plastic and have it puddle on him and the sheets but I have to bring my own (which I would have to buy since the bed he is sleeping on I don't own in that size)

Sorry my venting is done but still miffed...

I am sorry to hear this. I think you are probably not the first person request that. And it is not like it is something cant be done. I think you have the right reason to be miffed about it. I hope they find a way to accommodating you and your Ds. Have a wonderful trip!

I hope so, but I refuse to buy a protector and pack it in my suitcases and not have room for other things I need. It's just that I thought everything would be easier this trip but then this. The thing I really don't understand is why they don't have protectors on their beds with all the people that sleep on them...:confused3:confused3:confused3

Sorry to read about the medical issues. Hope everyone is healthy for Disney!

My MIL was rushed to the hospital yesterday and had surgery this morning. DH wants to go see her so we're going down tomorrow morning and coming home tomorrow night ~ 8 hours roundtrip.

We leave Saturday to start the drive down. Still not sure where we're stopping.

It's cold here. I wore a sweater to take the kids to the park today!:scared1:
I actually wish it would get gross and hot like it was last week so I am used to it when we get there:rotfl:

sweaters....oh i think i forget what they are!! This has been our hottest summer in a long while! it finally rained all day saturday, but was still muggy that night. People said, dont you think it will be hot there in August...I ask "Have you walked outside this summer at all?" I hope it is less humid by the time we get back.

OK. Got it. Looks like it works from my phone. Now to test the one on DW's phone.

So...did it work?

Easy WDW just posted about updated hours the last week in August. It doesn't affect me but I thought I'd pass on the info!

This is good news! I have to leave AK before it closes to make an ADR, now that it is open even later the bus should not be as full when we leave.

An update on my uncle. The doctors are hopeful that if he gains some weight (he lost close to 50lbs) and some strength he may be able to attend his granddaughter's wedding on the 1st. He is having a procedure tomorrow that will hopefully keeps his lungs from filling with fluid. Once he gains some weight they can start treatment for the cancer.

Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts.

Tonight we ate leftovers out of the fridge and threw out everything that we know we won't eat in the next 2 days or had gone bad. Tomorrow DH golfs so I will pick up the kids something on my way home and I'll make myself something quick. On Thursday, my mom is having over for dinner.

Hmmmmm....I don't know if I like this. There is only one reason they increase park hours, and it's because they are expecting large crowds of people. I figured after looking around a bit that the moderates only have a couple of room catagories left, I don't have warm fuzzies at the moment.

People say this to us every time we book a Disney trip! It's the same temp/humidity in New Jersey, we'll be okay! ;) Our temps actually went down to 70 degrees last night, so I turned off the air, but the humidity is so high that everything in the house feels wet! So I turned it back on! lol

I can't believe that they were not accomodating to you- I think that this is definitely a request that is reasonable and could be accomodated. I totally agree with you. I hope everything works out and that you have a great time...

I would love to stay at AK until closing, but you are right, the busses will be less crowded when we leave for our ADR too...we are eating at 'Ohana that night!

I have read through all of the threads and didn't multi-quote all posts that I wanted to comment on, but for those who are dealing with health issues (whether it is your daughter, son, mother-in-law, or uncle), I am thinking of you!!!

And for those of you there NOW, enjoy!!! Tell Mickey I will be there next week!

I thought this immediately too. My experience in late August has been low crowds, hope that stays the same....

ETA: Touringplans.com hasn't raised their crowd levels that I could tell...still look fairly light!

I can't see it getting much busier all of a sudden. I've been the last 3 years for the same 10 days. It will be ok:). Touring plans and Easywdw will post updates I am sure.. but the hours were really low to begin with. I seem to remember them increasing like this last year too.

Yep.. just checked EasyWdw. Here is what Josh has to say..
Disney updated the operating schedule for the last week in August today. Changes are below and will be reflected in the crowd calendar image and daily analysis momentarily. The recommendations and overall crowd level are unaffected.

And really they aren't huge changes. They've added a second Fantasmic, which they had when I was there in May and the crowds were fine. And they've increased AK and DHS's hours by one hour each per day. I wouldn't worry about it too much:)

They aren't huge changes, but I'm totally excited for them. I was bummed that AK closed at 5 the day we're going (27th), but now we can stay till 6 and head to DHS for the 10pm F! and EMH. Woot! Woot! I'm excited to see a safari after 5 and hoping that the 10pm F! will be less crowded

ETA: ooh- and DS and I can ride ToT over and over again during the first F! See- this is a huge change. Now we can do ToT till we drop and still see F! Yay! I shouldn't have checked this right before bedtime. Now I'm going to be mentally re-doing my schedules all night!

Just want to pop in and say hi to everyone. I haven't been on the boards lately too much, but we got some news from Victoria's doctor on Friday that kind of thrown us for a loop. The doctor suspects Victoria has Polycystic ovarian syndrome. The are referring her to the endocrinologist down in Portland and the appointment will be AFTER we come back. I know this isn't a death sentence and the severity of the condition will determine the treatment plan, but it's just another thing my poor 14 year old has to deal with. She's been sick all her life and it breaks my heart when she asks my why can't she be like everyone else. It's hard to console her when I'm thinking the same exact thing!

THIS, MY FRIENDS, IS WHY WE GO TO DISNEY WHEN WE CAN!!! WE ARE ALL HAPPY AND HEALTHY THERE....EVEN FOR A SHORT TIME! :goodvibes

I am just catching up after no Internet foe a few days(the horror!) but had to reply to this post. I have PCOS and fought for years for a diagnosis. It's awesome that's she's been diagnosed so young and they now recognize this syndrome/disease and actually treat it. All I can say is to research the heck out of it. Everything will be ok. And don't beleive anyone who says she won't be able to have kids. A specialist in Toronto told me that years ago and I really want an appointment with her again to show her my pictures of ds6 and dd4! If you or her wants to talk, pm me! Sending pixie dust your way.

I hope you are right :thumbsup2 When we went a few years back, same week the crowds were really reasonable as well so fingers and toes crossed here too.

Wizzzzzard testing DW's ability to post.

Ok, so my tech loving DH hijacked my site and is now testing every piece of equipment that will be bringing with us to the world. Gotta love the IT dude! He is telling everyone to watch their facebook page because in X # of days there will be disney pictures on it cause we are going on vacation. I guess I really am not the only Disney lover in this household. It just usually doesn't come out this early before the trip or at this high an overt level. I will lovingly share my disney loving stage. Jump on board, here we go!!!:cool1::love::laughing::yay::dance3::woohoo:

Does it have to be on wheels? My DS has a Swiss Gear backpack from Target (similar to this http://www.target.com/p/swiss-gear-grey-backpack-swg-daisy-chain-gry-19-3x15x5-9/-/A-14024009) and it's worked great. It was way more than I've ever paid for a backpack before, but now that he's older it's not like he needs a new one with a new character every year. This one lasted all through middle school and still looks almost new. So it'll be going to high school with him :)

Could they make do with their old ones for a few weeks? You'll likely see some sales by the end of September. Or maybe try LL Bean? They have the guarantee as well. My neighbours son ripped his somehow and they sent a new one for free a year and a half after she bought it.

To the person who wanted Lands End backpacks, they are offering 25% off everything but it ends tonight!

My kids are insisting on wheels. They've had rolling packs for 2 yrs and I was hoping they would opt for a normal one - but nope, they still want wheels. When I got home we all sat and looked at the bags. At the end of the day we decided to keep them. They are MUCH better quality than the Lands End ones we had before and I like their lifetime guarantee (which Lands End also has). They are loving that the bag does NOT tip over the front. Not as happy about the lack of pockets though. I ended up getting a black zippered pouch and pinning it to the inside of the bag for an "instant" zippered compartment. My DD is still not as big a fan of the color - but it's a more neutral one that will look pretty for years whereas the one she wants is a bright purple that can look dated. So she has agreed to keep it. The plain black one I posted before is for her brother and ers is this black floral lace one.

So now backpacks are all packed with heir new school supplies and they are READY for school!

Thank you!! I'll have to check on all my hours now.

What day/time are you going to Park Fair? It would be awesome if we were there at the same time.

Do you have a Winners near you? They often have backpacks at a good price.

I didn't find much in the way of high quality backpacks on wheels with good guarantees at Winners or elsewhere :( So eBags to the rescue!

Unfortunately our Park Fare ressies are on differen days - that would have been so much fun!

Sorry to hear about your MIL. I hope she is up and about soon.

So glad to hear your uncle is doing better!

That's what I'm gonna start doing now!

Tonight I also went through all my packing lists. On Friday night I pulled out all our clothes and spent time figuring out everything I want to pack...along with what we're wearing on what day LOL! Everything is coordinated - we should be easy to spot.

I packed our park bags - can't believe how empty they are! We might even be able to go bagless ocassionally. WOW! Last year we carried very very full bags and I had to repack and split the load many times.

I also went through our "Disney bin" and then went through the ultimate packing list to make sure we have everything. Now I just have to get everything in bags, which I'll do his weekend. 1 more week and 1 day to go!!!

Posting to see ticker. And to freak out for a second amoungst like-minded company. NINE DAYS!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
