****OFFICIAL August, 2012 (PART 2)****

question for those who have been before. Is there anywhere around disney (outside the resort) to buy plus size clothing besides walmart? I am from canada (obviously) but clothes are much more expensive up here so i was thinking a sundress or 2 while down there.

SUMMER VACATION PLANS
hmmm...we love to travel and put a huge priority on family trips because it really pushes us to spnd quality family time together.

The 1st weekend of August, we are thinking of driving 8hrs north for a short 4 day weekend camping in Algonquin! It's a long way for such a short time. But, we have a Japanese exchange student staying with us for 2 weeks and we'd love for her to see moose. (Of course, I've lived in Canada 13 yrs now and have never yet seen moose - so the trip is partly for me!)

It feels weird but we don't have too many other major plans for the summer - maybe a weekend away here or there if I stumble across any good deals. My DH has just about qualified for a free companion pass on Southwest airlines - which means 2-4-1 airfare, dunno how I can resist planning a quick getaway somewhere...anywhere!

TRIP INSURANCE
We have not bought it before but decided to get it for this trip as DH is worried about hurricanes. And if there is a hurricane big enough, then yes - DH will insist on cancelling.

No other summer plans for us either, the kids do local activities but Disney is our only summer vacation. We are only allowed two weeks off during the summer (at the hospital I work at), and I take it all :lmao: that way all the nurse's get a chance to travel and the senior employees don't take it all!:rotfl2:

Trip insurance: No, we did that our first trip but haven't since.

No other summer plans for us. DH works 6 or 7 day weeks at his job and because he recently switched companies he only has 1 week of vacation time this year. HE already had to do some major schedule changes to make this vacation work since we are going for 10 days. He's a manager and is salaried so he has to get all his hours in somehow.

Trip insurance.

We've always gotten it before and never had to use it so we didn't bother to get it this time. With my luck this is the time we'll need it.

I purchased the trip insurance. I figured it's cheap enough compared to what I would lose if I didn't have it and something happened.
It's a drop in the bucket compared to all the other money spent on various insurances over the course of the year. Medical, Dental, Auto, Home, Accident, Disability, Life, Credit Card protection. I swear, most of my income is paid out toward insurance :(

My siblings (6,12) went with my aunt to Algonquin a couple of weeks ago and they absolutely LOVED it! They have never been camping that far north (was 2 hour drive to my aunts and then another 3.5/4 from their place) but they had a blast. They stayed at Two Rivers and actually on the way down saw a moose along the side of the road so you never know... didnt get a picture unfortunately though :sad2:

Good to hear they enjoyed it so much. We're a bit worried about bugs, etc and transporting all the gear up...but friends of ours would go the day before and set up our tent for us. Makes it workable - because of various other factors, we won't make it to Algonquin until 8pm-10pm which is much later than I'd like to set up camp (although I've done it before LOL).

Orlando is riddled with Outlet Malls. You can throw a stone from one and hit another. You pass like three on the way to WDW from MCO.

The bugs were not actually too bad. My mum was REALLY worried because my brother has a serious bee allergy. There were some mosquitos but not too bad (only came back with 1/2 a dozen bites and both forgot to wear bug spray). They arrived around then but have a trailer so not as much set-up.
Hope you have a great trip! :cool1: - I may even consider going next time and I am the antomnym of a camper lol. :rotfl:

So far it seems that most have not bought trip insurance.

Unfortunately, the past two years I have had to or I'd have had an anxiety attack. I have to pay for a "cancel for work reasons" rider. I'm a nurse manager and I'm required to be present for our annual Department of Health Survey. Much to my dismay, the survey falls in the summer...usually in August. The exact day they will show up isn't known and last year they showed up 2 weeks before we were scheduled to leave. I actually thanked them for showing up when they did (they looked at me like I was nuts because most are very nervous when they come). A DOH survey can make or break a facility hence the requirement that I be present.

On that note, if everyone could say a little prayer (or throw a little pixie dust our way) that they show up VERY soon, so I don't need to use the trip insurance and I can fully throw myself into looking forward to our trip, it would be greatly appreciated. Every time I begin getting excited about leaving my mind wanders back to "what if I have to cancel because of survey" mode....it REALLY stinks!

I stopped in my office after the farmer's market this morning and looked around...couldn't find any. I am betting if we had any leftovers they got thrown away when we moved offices in May. Sorry! :-\

Thanks for looking! I'm just going to get the pack of 10. I'll have 5 or 6 extra, so if anyone wants a couple, PM me!

In other news, I did a little "practice" packing this morning. DH and DS officially think I've lost it :rolleyes1 I didn't pack any of the big peoples' stuff, but I packed our "must keep with us" carry-on (with our DSLR camera, swimsuits, flip flops, & DD's floatie), our misc. stuff carry-on that I'm ok with gate checking if we need to (water bottles, misting fans, stuff like that) and a 3rd carry-on with DD's clothes. I put 8 outfits, including underwear, into separate quart-sized ziplocs, then one ziploc with 2 sets of jammies and one with a couple swimsuits. Then 3 more with princess dresses and a gallon size one for her fancier Disney store Aurora dress. Oh, and 3 pairs of shoes. And the carry-on wasn't even half full! I'm now thinking I can get both kids' clothes into one carry-on. Packing in ziplocs is AMAZING! I think I might be able to swing the "pack a carry-on in a checked bag" trick and end up with a whole extra suitcase to pack souvies in on the way home :woohoo:

ETA- I found the "credential holder" at Staples where I could just buy 1ea, didn't have to buy 10. DH looked at me like I was crazy when I asked if he'd wear one, but DS said will wear it. And his phone even fits inside, so yay for that!

U have officially gone DISmad. Welcome to the club!

We don't purchase trip insurance (we have some through our credit card and some through CAA). We ALWAYS get the extended medical though. Without boring you to death.. having that 150 dollar policy covers us all for a year and saved us 18,000 dollars when my son was hospitalized in Orlando.
Fellow Canadian friends, please please trust me when I say it is worth every penny. A week long stay without insurance could bankrupt you. That 18,000 was for treatment, tests and ambulance rides etc. for 2 nights!!!

I am also a Department Head in a healthcare facility, and I am required to be present when state comes in for our Annual. As long as i'm not on vacation already. If they come in on a Friday and I'm scheduled for vacation on Saturday, then I can't go. But if I leave on Friday and they come in Saturday i'm free to go. They came during my vacation last year! It's awful! I moved facilities recently (same company) and told my boss upon hire (she begged me to move to her facility :yay:) that if state did come in, and my vacation was during that time period, I would be able to go without any issues. She agreed :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I wear sunscreen, mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick. Anything else will melt off my face! Also I reapply my sunscreen throughout the day so I'd have to take any face makeup off and start over. PITA!
