***Official August 2010 Thread!! Come Join Us In The Countdown!*****

Yes, I have lime green Mickeyheads on keyrings to hang on my park bag and DH's backpack. Here's our pic. DH has lost 30 pounds since our trip though.... we'll have to seriously guard against fattening park food!

Can you add an extra day to our stay? We decided to add a night so that we could attend the Last Tour to Endor event.

We are at POFQ from 8/7/10 to 8/15/10. Thanks!

Ok, this is what you do. First, you find a picture that you want to share. It has to be on a hosted website such as Facebook or photobucket. Open the pic you want to share (in a separate window). On Facebook, I right click on the picture and a menu comes up and I select properties. It will show a web address location for the photo. Copy it. --switch back to the DIS window...then in this reply window where I am typing now... there are some icons in a row. There is an icon that looks like a postcard with a mountain on it. Click on that. A small window will open and you just paste the copied picture link right there, and say OK. It places the picture address in the reply box. You can't see it yet.. just the address. But when you click submit reply... it'll be there. If you want to make sure it is... just click Preview Reply first and if its there, just click submit. Its easy! Try it!:surfweb:

Our family will be staying August 22-30. We are booked at CSR. My DH also has a screen name. He is Wizzzzzard. We are very much looking forward to this trip.:thumbsup2:cool1::rotfl2::rotfl::woohoo::laughing::wizard::love:

:flower3:

Not sure if i've posted on in this tread, but were headed to WDW from August 19th to August 25th..we were debating between AKL and POP... but have decided to stick with POP. :goodvibes

It looks like there will be quite a few DIS'rs at POR during our stay (Aug 15 - Aug 28), hopefully we'll meet a couple of you!

:goodvibesMy DH & I decided just yesterday to book a short trip to WDW to celebrate our anniversary in Aug. Well, I was able to book a studio at OKW with the AP 40% room-only discount and got a decent airfare so we are all set! Cannot believe it -- we will be there from 8/5-8/10.

i hope this worked! this is from our trip in august 2009!! i had just cut my hair to donate it to the Pink Hearts Fund which donates hair to children with cancer and other illnesses involving hairloss.

I'm a Disney lover, totally addicted. We're going back Aug 23-30th. OK so here's my question. For those who have been in Aug, how ridiculous is the heat? I've been in May, Oct & Nov. My trip in May (09) they had record temps (was 95 the whole week only 1nt it rained). It was HOT but the humidity wasnt THAT horrible. We rested alot and drank tons of water. Are we going to melt in Aug? Is my DH going to hate me and refuse to ever be dragged to WDW again? Love to hear about trips in Aug.

Although I have not been in August, I have been in mid to late July. The weather in Orlando tops out in July, and August actually has the same average highs and humidity that July does. So I expect it to be about the same. The thing about Florida. It doesn't get as insanely hot as the southwest or Texas does... its just humid. The high should be low 90's and the humidity will ruin your hair.. but Hey... its Disney!!:rotfl: That is the weather we experienced in mid July last year. and Every afternoon around 2-3:00, it WILL thunderstorm, then pass by like it never happened. Drink lots of water, bring rain ponchos and you'll be fine. I have very curly hair so I have to keep my hair in a contained style such as a banana clip or pony tail otherwise bad things happen to my hair. think Rosanne Rosannadanna! :rotfl2: When we visit in the summer, we make sure to take an afternoon break for the pool.... just has to be before the scheduled thunderstorm or after. Otherwise the pool gets closed during the storm.

Yeah.. I see you. Now maybe we have a chance of finding each other. Is your hair much longer now?

Regarding Florida heat...

I live in Daytona. The outdoor thermometer read 100 today. I had Cameran out back in her blow-up whale pool (laugh later) for approximately 45 minutes, absolutely COATED in 70 spf waterproof sunscreen... and we fried. Well... I did. She has her Daddy's Latin skin, so she just got REALLY dark.

My point? IT's HOT. :sunny:

Hey everyone. I usually hang out on the DIS Dads Club Thread, but I thought I would add our trip to this one. It is our first with the kids.

I went two years ago in August, and last year late July. It's HOT! We really tried to not even pay attention to the weather. Never checked the news before we left or anything. I think that helped as last year we had a couple days around 105 from what people were telling us on the buses. In July it rained every day for at least a little bit in the late afternoon. But two years ago in August it only rained one day, we were very surprised. I'm expecting more of the rain each day this year too!

The weather service will never give you 105 as the official temp. About a week or so ago... here in Virginia... my thermometer that has an outdoor sensor and an indoor reader (so you can read the temp from the comfort of inside) read 107 in the late afternoon :scared1: The official high for that day was something in the low 90's or even upper 80's. It was way lower than that reading I got. The spot where my temp sensor is gets afternoon sun. So, I'm going to imagine that its the same in Florida. It'll be way hotter in direct sun than the official temperature that they read from the local airport, which I'm convinced they keep in a well shaded spot. The almanac official average high for July and August is 91. :confused3 I guess though.. once its over about 88.... as my mom always said "hot is hot". I always thought that of the people in Arizona who have highs of 120. Once its already over 88.... doesn't it just feel like you're frying and can you really tell the difference between 95 and 110? At that point, it sort of just feels like you're done. Kinda like how once its colder than 30... does it really matter?

Been twice in August, this trip will be our third. I'm from NY, it doesn't get that hot here very often, and I hate the heat.

Florida is hot in August. Expect temperatures to be at, or above 95 degrees daily, and that's not just mid day, it's that hot when you step out the door first thing in the morning. Expect the humidity to be at, or above 95% daily, all day. Expect it to rain every day, for a while, perhaps as little as 10 minutes, or as much as an hour. Occasionally it will rain longer, but most days it is a short storm.

Now, as bad as that sounds, and it is bad, it isn't AS bad as you think it is. So much of Disney World is air conditioned that you really don't spend as much time out in the heat as you would think. Drink plenty of fluids, take a break when you need it, and take advantage of attractions like COP, Country Bears, Ellen's Energy Adventure, and any of the other nice long air conditioned venues. Take your time during meals, and enjoy the rest, and cool air, and you'll be fine in the heat.

Well, in Upstate New York, it certainly doesn't get that hot! NYC has its moments. Maybe if you head to Saratoga Spring Resort... it will feel cooler.. at least psychologically.

I was wondering if it might be too hot to try the water parks.:confused3 I haven't been to a Disney water park since River Country in 1984. Which one is shadier.. Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach?
