Official American Idol Season 4 Thread

With all of the outrageously horrible performances they show during the auditions, I sometimes think it would be really funny if one of the bad ones would actually make it through and continue for a good portion of the season. I mean, I know it wouldn't ever happen and it wouldn't be fair to take up a space that a good singer could have, but I'd like to just see how they would handle the weekly competition. I actually don't think they could handle it, but it would be funny to watch them try!

My 16 month old DS actually got a weird look on his face and turned off the TV during her "performance" :teeth:

Maybe your 16 month old needs to be one of the guest judges. Sounds like he has good taste! :earsboy:

Already did that. His name was John Stevens.

:( i loved him. who cares if he can't sing a gloria estefan song? ;) he has an album of standards coming out this month :bounce:

John Stevens got the best recording contract of all the idols from last season. I guess his fans aren't as stupid as we are made out to be.

No, I never said his fans were stupid. I'm happy for him and his contract. Let's just agree to disagree. IMHO, listening to him sing was painful, and keeping him in the competition as long as he was, just seemed to me like everyone who voted was playing a cruel little joke.

When you are voting, you do not necessarily know what the songs are the next week and you vote based on who YOU want to win and be given a chance at the American Idol.

Nikki from Season 1 was the same way--she stuck around wayyyy too long but people loved her.

Bumping up for tonight and to add....

Okay, the guy whose dad didn't think he'd amount to much--Holy Cow what a voice!!! Wasn't that a Carpenter's song he sang...WOW!!!

A pooh version of Clay???

i agree with lisa loves pooh - that guy was great! tonight i also really liked the blue-haired girl that sang phantom of the opera (you know, the one who had "just started taking singing lessons!" :earseek: ). my favourite so far is still michael from new orleans i think. i'm afraid i like clay too much to be excited about 'miracle boy,' who just doesn't seem as good in comparison :snooty: it's hard to tell anyways who the best performers will be when they only show a fraction of the people who got through

Phantom Girl was awesome--I am impressed that they are giving benefit of the doubt and hoping that she can have her voice do other genres.

Unfortunately the looks will be a distraction.

yeah, i totally expected them to at least ask her to sing a pop song. i'm not too surprised that they let her through despite her looks - every other season had someone in the top ten with pink hair (nikki, amy, vanessa) so why not blue? :teeth:

so what do you think everyone - if you could audition for american idol, what song would you sing? i think i would sing tom wait's "downtown train"

Nothing--I'd be the featured bad singer and would NEVER place myself in that position.

If I could sing -- I would sing a song, I think it is called "ragdoll", it is on a Celine Dion CD I have.

"When I was a girl, I had a rag doll..only doll I ever owned...I love you the way I love that rag doll..."

"Do I love you my oh my, river deep, mountain wide..."

yadda yadda yadda.

ETA to add--the song is called "River Deep, Mountain Wide" and from what I found Tina Turner sings it as well and I suspect did it before Celine.

That girl who sang Phantom of the Opera was really good. I'm glad they let her through. Simon was right when he said that she would give Sarah Brightman a run for her money.

Tonights show was good.

How about the girl who sang Chain of Fools, the old Aretha Franklin song? I thought she was the best one they've had audition so far on any episode. Makes me glad I recorded last night's episode so I can listen to her again.

The Phantom girl was quite good too but just because you can hit a high note doesn't mean you should. I had to go around the house after she was on to see if any of my crystal was broken! :scared1:

Roberta

I thought there were a lot of really good singers that got through last night, but only a few great ones. My favorites were Anthony "miracle boy", and the girl with two different shoes who sang Chain of Fools. The Rocky Horror girl was really good too, but it remains to be seen if she can tune her "instrument" to the pop songs coming up.
I see the other twin is back tonight, wonder if he makes it through. I still think he and his brother had lousy attitudes. Can't wait!

i'm hoping for better and more exciting singers tonight.

what a joke to have the pantomine girl on, she might have taken up a spot by someone with talent.............or no talent......

i liked scott last night.

ITA...and I kept thinking what a waste of time...and thought for sure Simon would have said that to her.

I liked the Phantom of the Opera Girl, what a voice! If she doesn't make it far in AI, Im sure she will be snapped up for Broadway.

I thought that the one dancing guy that Paula went up to bat for was awful and I didn't think he should have gone through....it was weird how she really wanted him in....

Interesting Stacey, I thought that Dezmond was really good. A bit offbeat, but I thought his voice was very good, and he definitely has stage presence. I'm glad Paula beat up on Randy and Simon to let him through, now I just hope he can prove himself. :flower:

Miracle Boy Anthony was good. Mismatched shoes and Phantom girl were good too. But what about that girl that sang "The Greatest Love of All"? When she said she couldn't believe that the voice coming out of her mouth was her own - I thought - "gee you're lucky". :rotfl:

I think she said something like "sometimes when I hear myself sing I wonder where that voice is coming from" or something like that and when I heard her I said that I wondered where it was coming from too...LOL

You might be right about Dezmond, maybe Paula could see something I couldn't, I know we will get to find out when the competition really starts....Im looking forward to seeing what everyone can really do!
