Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

I'm pretty sure I'm going to upgrade to an AP when we go in December, since I have that trip, a May trip, this one if I add it, and then if I enjoy the PHM I want to sign up for the Wine and Dine next year. So, I guess I'd be looking for an AP discount on a room? Never had one before so I'm not sure how that works.

I'm an AP holder, and did get a discounted room in Feb 2014 for the race weekend. It was a 30% discount at CBR - can't remember now which other resorts were available and what discount rate they were, although I do know that the Little Mermaid rooms at AoA were not discounted (I don't think they've been included in a discount yet!) So, I would hope to get something similar in 2015 :thumbsup2

It says that you can only pick up your race bib, etc. at the Expo the three days before the race. So would people who ran this race before not recommend getting in the day before the race? Would that be cutting it close?

I just ran the 10K last year, but did arrive the day before the race (Friday). I had no trouble at all with picking up my race packet. Buses were running often, and the expo wasn't busy on Friday (I was there early in the afternoon). I didn't wait in any lines at all. However, if there's some special merchandise that you want at the expo, it might sell out quickly - I would think that would be the only reason you'd need to get there on the first day.

Planning to do the same in 2015 - arrive on Saturday for the expo, running the half on Sunday. Good luck!

Hi guys!
I'm back for 2015 again, although I decided against the GSC this time and am going to just focus on the half this year. With the insane cost of these races now and the not so hot experience I had last year (major bus issues, food issues, ect) this year is going to be more of a trip home than a Disney vacation which I am ok with. Planning on flying down Wednesday night that week to my parents house and going to the expo on Thursday, but only staying in the resort for 1 night on Saturday. This will be Princess #5 for me and potentially the last for while depending on how this year goes so hoping to make this one a lot less stressful than 2014!

I'm excited to register tomorrow and going to leave work to grab lunch at home, coincidentally at noon... :thumbsup2

With an AP, you'll be able to login to MDE and go to Annual Passholders, You'll find resort discounts there. There have been AP rates available every year I've done PHM weekend, but I'll be honest - they're not great. I don't think the AP rate last year was any better than the GP discounts being offered. And I got a MUCH better deal going through Travelocity, which had the GP discounted rates PLUS a code for $150 off.

It says that you can only pick up your race bib, etc. at the Expo the three days before the race. So would people who ran this race before not recommend getting in the day before the race? Would that be cutting it close?
You can pick up bibs as early as the day before the first race, but you don't have to get them that soon, so long as you do get them the day before whichever race you're doing. So if you're running the 1/2, you'll need to plan a bib pick-up on Sat., at the latest. For the 10K, Friday, and Thurs. for the 5K.

As PPs have mentioned, in regards to $, at what point does the madness stop. At some point, these race will become cost prohibitive.
We keep saying that, but they keep selling out - I'm not sure we're anywhere near the tipping point yet!

How were the shirts last year? Womens cut, true to size, were you able to exchange them for a different size?
The 5K is unisex cotton. The 10K, PHM and GSC shirts this year were tech material, womens fit and pretty true to size: I wear a petite 0-2 on top and the XS fits well enough - just a little long all over, but not too baggy, not too tight. Oddly, they were all the same style, same maker, but all 3 of mine fit differently! The 10K hangs nicely, but the neck of the PHM keeps sticking up away from my neck, and the GSC shirt does the same, but not quit as pronounced. None are as nice as my 2013 PHM shirt, sadly. That was perfection! Here's hoping for better quality control this time, lol!

This isn't going to sell out within minutes, right? It's not like buying concert tickets is it? I'm a little nervous now about not being able to register until I get home from work!
Depends on the race... I don't honestly think minutes, but an hour sellout wouldn't' surprise me for GSC and maybe the 10K. PHM I don't see going as fast. 5K is the wildcard... rumor of a Frozen theme could be enough to make it go lightning fast!

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to drive over. We followed the directions from the friendly folks at the Expo (taking into consideration the road closures) and had no trouble whatsoever. I did wake up extra early to get a head start on the road and I don't regret it. I left my hotel at 2:30 to head to my friend's hotel two miles down the street. Once I picked her up, I'd say it was only 15 minutes MAX before we were being gestured into our parking spot for the run. We used the extra time to stretch, use the bathroom (a few times :rotfl:), and overall decompress and settle our nerves.
:thumbsup2 I'll back this up... and I stayed on WDW property! But I drove to the 5K and 10K and was literally there within 10 mins from walking out my door at CBR. I'll totally drive again, regardless of where I stay!

I had a feeling! Okay, people...if you want to do the 5K, register tomorrow with your other races! No changing your mind later! This one will sell out FAST.

ERGH!!!! I was really thinking of not running. DS really needs a car and DH is being a butthead about helping him. But if it really is Frozen, I wanna go!

Do I be a responsible parent and help DS or do I be selfish and do something for myself.

Be selfish! Be selfish!! :rotfl: Seriously, do what is best for you and your family. I keep trying to talk myself out of it, but I just can't seem to do it. Trying to get some stuff sold today so I'll have money in my paypal or I won't be signing up. I am sooo excited for a Frozen theme though. Praying hard I can do it. :thumbsup2

I have a favor to ask...does anyone know the schedule for the kids races? DD was signed up for the 200 meter dash but had pneumonia and was unable to run this year. I would love to register her for next year, especially given the theme. I went to the RunDisney website but only see a set of dates (Friday through Saturday) not a detailed schedule. Because I'm at work, I can't view many websites to check for myself.

I'm anxious to know if she can run Saturday. We can't swing Friday races next year. Bummer.

Thanks!

Debating on signing my 3 year old for the kids races... She goes to all the local races with me and I think she would dig the "kid's bling" she would get at the end of the race. Anyone have experiences with this or is it a headache to worry about getting her where she needs to go by a certain time?!?!

LOL DS says be selfish too. I need to talk to DH tonight. I have the money set aside already.
I hope you have the cash. Can you pay via paypal?

My kids loved the kids races this past year. I pulled out my 2014 program to make sure I remembered the details right. In 2014 the schedule was the same for both Friday and Saturday. The mile race start was 8:45 and the Dashes were 9:15. Mine did it on Friday. I had gone with my dad to the 5k to watch him. My husband brought the kids over later. The program says mile participants had to meet at corrals at 8:35, the dashes needed to be in corrals by 9:00.

My dd did the 200m and my son the 400. My dd insisted on running the 200 alone, which scared me to death. I am pretty sure the highest my heart rate got the whole weekend was NOT on the 10k or half course, but from the time I left her in her corral to when I saw her at the finish, which was at least 15 minutes. But, it was fine. She was super proud of herself and they do have a safety check in place where kids can not be picked up without a person holding the other half of the claim ticket attached to the childs bib. The vast majority of kids in that race did run with a parent. My son, who was older (7) did not want to run alone, and my DH who hates running ran with him.

In the end they both loved running the short courses and their medals and tshirts. This year my son will be sticking with the kids race, though I'm not sure if it will be the mile or the 400 again. My daughter, now 6, has opted for the 5k. She was jealous of the real medals versus the plastic kids medals:rotfl2: Whatever keeps her moving!

Seriously considering signing up for the 10k. How tired would I be if I arrived early Friday morning (flight from houston,tx) for the Saturday enchanted 10k. I could possibly do Thursday night , but am limited on my husbands vacation days. He would only be able to take off Friday. We would leave by Sunday night.

Really you are the only one that can know for sure.

HOWEVER,
It's only 6 miles (yes I know how that sounds, coming from a guy who couldn't run 1 mile 2.5 years ago) but it's a good distance, and if you can come in by midday on Friday, I wouldn't think you'd have any issue doing the distance. Don't expect a PB, or a record time.

Come on do it, you know you want to ;)

I think it's more the start time (5:30 am) that has me scared more than the distance :) I'm going to talk with dh tonight and try and convince him we need to do this.

Well, I succumbed to my addiction and just signed up for the 5K, too. Please RunD, take all my $$$!!! Lol

You won't be any more tired than I am. I'm coming down that Thursday from Boston with a 5yo that my parents are going to watch those nights.

The answer to that depends on what you do Friday - you'd probably be tired if you spend the whole day in parks and get to bed late. But if you take it easy and get to bed early, it shouldn't be a problem at all, and will make for an early start to your day on Sat!

Aww, sweet son!

I have the Paypal debit card, so as soon as there's money in my account I can use the debit card. :thumbsup2

And Oh my gosh, I just got one of my best friends to do this with me! So now this stuff has to sell. If you're the praying sort, please say a prayer for me. I'm so excited!!!!
