Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

There is still no link at the DVC member website, but there is one on the Passholder site. I hope DVC gets their act together soon. I find it interesting that they still have the links for Star Wars, the January races, and Wine and Dine even though those races are no longer available. :confused3
I was worried about this too but on 7/2/14 I asked the runDisney expert on the Disney Mom's Panel and got this answer.

"I am excited to hear you have plans to participate in the 2015 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend! Will this be your first runDisney experience? I would love to know :)

I have confirmed Disney Vacation Club® members will have the availability to take advantage of early registration for this royal race weekend. As a Disney Vacation Club® member myself, I also noticed the member website has not yet been updated to reflect this information, but I've been assured it will be there in time when registration opens to Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club® members on Wednesday, July 9th at Noon EST.

I hope this information has been helpful, Mary! Please do not hesitate to send any additional questions you may have my way. As the runDisney Specialist on the Disney Parks Moms Panel I am here to help make your race-cation experience as magical as possible.

Happy Training!

Faith "

Has anyone seen/heard any hints as to this year's theme? Last year was Cinderella and before that was Mickey/Minnie. Which princess will it be this year or do you think it'll just be a generic princess theme? I'm hoping since they're doing a big thing with Frozen at HS that is might be Anna and Elsa.

I don't have a blog post about it, but it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! So...RAH RAH RAH!

I mean that sincerely. No sarcasm at all. You should definitely do it.

Last year it wasn't there until moments before registration. I remember because I was prepared to forgo the DVC discount and just use my ap access to register early, but at the last moment it popped up. I think I saw it on Facebook (I'm a fan of DVC there) and then checked and there it was.

I'm also hoping for a Frozen theme. :goodvibes

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and advice. I really would love to sign up...for all 3 actually, but that might be a bit ambitious! :rotfl2:

It didn't dawn on me until today...where do I go to register for the race??? Run disney.com?? I saw someone suggest registering for active.com, is that where I will register? Help!!

Nah! If I can do all 3, so can you!

LOL, thank you keahgirl!!! :thumbsup2

You're welcome! I really think everyone should do it. I hope they don't try though! It fills up fast enough!

Some go straight thru active, but active.com hates me;). I can never get the races to come up that way. have to link into it from rundisney, or one of the early registration links. Just go to rundisney.com, click PHM, and there will be a "register now button". That will link you into the active.com registration site. Or, if you have an AP or Are a DVC member login to your accounts there, and follow the early registration link.

Good Luck!

The 5K was open until 1 week before the race last year! But that's NOT always the case- so just watch the numbers. I don't think you HAVE to sign up for that race ASAP but weirder things have happened.

I posted something for the new folks- or folks debating on signing up. It's the good, bad and ugly of the PHM.

Very good read! I have been lurking on here as I try to decide but thought I would jump in with you are right on track....

But there are a few negatives I find at RunDisney you didn't list. Pre and post race support is PATHETIC! Yes, folks if you want to pay even more you can have a good experience but the rest of us will be stuck in a parking lot getting a box of disgusting food post race. Of all the races I do Disney's post race is the worst LOL! Pre race consists of getting there at the crack of dawn and sitting in a parking lot again. :rotfl2:

Overall I also do it to see my friends, but at RunDisney events I generally find the overall experience less then some races. While the on course entertainment is fun there is not near as much "on course" fan support. For example I am debating between this and Donna the week prior. Donna has people out cheering and supporting most of the course which is a huge "pick me up"

I am not saying you shouldn't do RunDisney and if you only do their races then I think you tend to be very happy with them. If you branch out you do sometimes woncder "why am I paying this much?"

I read through this thread and I have a quick question since I wasn't really able to find what I was looking for: my BF and I are planning on running the 5K together the Friday before I run the PHM on Sunday - what are we looking at as far as pricing for the 5K goes? I've run the PHM three times in the past, so I'm already prepared for the pricetag for that, I just wasn't sure how much to budget for the 5K as well.

Thanks!

It's the best of times... As long as you have the right mentality. ;)

If you are looking to hardcore race than this *might* not be the race for you. WDW half might be a better option for example.
:thumbsup2 ::yes:: Totally agree!

For me I think it may be my only Half ever...
Yeah, that's what we all said, lol! ;)

Hi everybody!! It's been awhile since I posted and I thought I wasn't doing any races for PHM weekend. Well, I decided to do the 10K again. I enjoyed it this year and I like the distance. So RunD, please hold me by my ankles and shake the $$$ from me to register!!! No FP+ needed!!! LOL!! It's so nice to see new peeps and old friends on this thread!! Here we go again!!
:rotfl2: Yay, welcome back to the madness... again!

In preparation for early sign up on Wed I was looking at some trip reports and videos from pasts GSC. My daughter (19) started to watch and said I want to do that. :thumbsup2 Now the problem is she has not done much of anything since the end of senior year soccer season 2 months ago. I have been trying to get her to run/walk with me but she quits after 1/2 a mile. I finally got her to go 2 miles on Sunday but she complained most of the time (her knee hurts, her side hurts, she is sweating). (Grrr, shut up and run) Ok sweetie we can walk a little. Anyway I know she is not up to the GSC but do you think it is reasonable I can prepare her for a 10K :confused3. The only other option is for me to sign us both up for the 5K but I really don't have the extra money (and maybe stamina for 3 days of running). What does everyone think?
:cheer2:
Honestly, I think she has to want to do it -both the race and the training - first and foremost. If she's not interested in training for it, I can't imagine it'll be a very fun race. OTOH if she's a soccer player, she's already in great shape, so she may be able to get through the race with little training. Then the question becomes are you okay with her winging it, or will her choosing not to train create stress and tension?

See, now I'm the total opposite - I'm a HUGE fan of rD's pre- and post-race support! I'm not arguing; just pointing out for new folks how different people have different thoughts on what "good" is. I adore the items in the snack boxes and much prefer them to the white-bread bagels I've gotten at other races. And the party atmosphere with a DJ spinning tunes totally gets me going, especially as I am NOT a morning person. I don't love needing to get up so early, but I figure it is what it is and deal with it as best I can. :)

If you branch out you do sometimes woncder "why am I paying this much?"
I've actually had the opposite reaction... I race non-rD races for time and to see what I can really do with my training. But having done a few of them, I totally understand the cost associated with rD now; there's just no comparison, to me, when it comes to entertainment, running through parks, on-course support, medals... As much grief as I give rD about other stuff (I'm talking to YOU, rD marketing!), I honestly feel like I get what I pay for.

what are we looking at as far as pricing for the 5K goes?
You can find pricing at http://www.rundisney.com/princess-half-marathon/. Here's the 5K info:

Disney Princess 5K presented by Children's Miracle Network Hospitals
$60 per participant by November 25, 2014
$70 per participant on or after November 26, 2014

All the above is right. You also need to know their favorite princess:). It determines the background color for the bibs. I think you might need emergency contact info, but I could be confusing that with another race.

Thanks!!! I have been out of commission for about a month with end of school activities and sports travelling...lol

I am so excited to rejoin this group and get to know you all over the next few months.

I am signed up for a 10k in Sept so I will have a time to report and I am on week 4 of my 10k program. :cool1::cool1: I still find it hard to believe that I will be able to run for more than 10 minutes at a time....:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I am a AP holder so I will let you know how it goes tomorrow...Fingers crossed...

My mom and I are running the half together to show support for my daughter who is severely disabled and suffering from a rare disease. We're still contemplating the GSC (better decide by tomorrow!!) can anyone tell me what benefits there are to signing up as a team for the half?

I signed up at active.com but it doesn't find my past race or my info. I went to score-this.com and found my info fine. So I will go the run disney.com or registration day and try to register there. I have to wait for the official registration day b/c I can't early register. I hope I do this right, I don't want to miss out on the registration or do it wrong!! Thanks for the info!

I ran 5 miles this morning..so humid here..yuck..sweating profusely! Lol

Thank you so much! I could have sworn when I checked the other day, that the prices weren't posted yet. Now I feel like such a dum-dum! LOL

Does the race retreat usually sell out quickly? Can I go back later and add it if I decide to do it? I've asked a friend if she could travel with me, but if she can't I'll be doing this solo and for sure would want to do the race retreat.

Does anyone know if I can use a Disney gift card to register or is it just the normal credit cards? I can't remember...

Never mind - found it!! Only ccs

It didn't sell out in 2014 until shortly before the event, maybe 2-3 weeks. You should be fine waiting, jut keep watching the numbers and be ready to make a decision once it gets above 75% sold.
