Official 2017 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend!

So, I have to say that with marathon weekend behind me I'm now getting fully focused on this race and getting so stinking excited. It's going to be so fun to have a totally new runDisney experience for me and two parks that I have very limited exposure to that I get to explore and less than 4 months from now!! YAY!!!

Yeah!!!! I got my training calendar printed out and I've crossed off a few of the dates on it. Right now I'm excited but there are soooo many dates left on it! Come on, hurry up! :) On a good note, here in Iowa it was in the upper 40's this week so a few of my runs were outside! In January! In Iowa! Crazy Iowa weather!

I ran 6 miles on a treadmill on a Thursday night :crazy2:
Come on nice weather, don't be shy about getting to Chicago-land early so I can ditch that dang machine.
FYI: My tinkerbooty is sore today!!!

So WHEN DO WE GET TO SEE MEDALS?????? (I know I'm way early, but I'm excited every time other races get to see theirs)

6 miles on the treadmill - YOWZA.

I'm hoping the medals will be out at the PHM expo...:hyper:

I'm still binge-reading my guidebook and trying to decide where to eat!!!

I'm thinking we may want to do either the Riverbelle Terrace or Carnation Cafe for dinner Sat night (pre-race) and maybe Blue Bayou Sunday lunch for post-race Mom day celebration time. (I worry about that Monte Cristo affecting my tummy pre-race)
And I think I HAVE to eat a corn dog and a churro since everyone keeps telling me they are on another level at DL.
I think Friday on our arrival day we may eat stuff in Cars land while its all lit up (like from the Cozy Cone or Flo's)
And then Trader Sam's something drinky during the dis-meet.

Ahhhh...so many fun things to look forward to! And so many days to change my mind during!

So I was over on the PHM thread and I saw someone had mentioned that there is a story behind the PDC medal? I was wondering if anyone that knows it could have a story time? popcorn::

So I wasn't sure I was going to dress up or not. But I finally decided yes i'm going to. I'm going to go as Fawn with no wings. I'm making my own top, I ordered fabric yesterday. Ordered brown carpi running leggings. I have really long hair so I'm going to put it up in high pony tail and braid it like she does :) I'm excited! I also got my ticket for the Disneyland Express yesterday to get to and from the airport :) Anyone have an good lists of what to bring. Looking for starting off point :) Doing a 5K with my 11 year-old son on Sunday. I'm hoping he likes it and wants to start training with me. Maybe we can do like Princess 10K together next year. Anyone know what the age limits are on the Half? I think he has a few years but just curious! We are doing Disney Cruise in Sept and I just found out about 5K they have on their Island and Super Excited!! I  DISNEY!! lol

I'm also thinking we need to fit in Blue Bayou and Carnation Café, but no clue yet on when. I'd also like one really nice meal during the trip, so maybe Steakhouse 55 for that. My guidebook though definitely indicates that counter service food at DLR is far superior to WDW.

What happens if i miss bib & pin pick up? We are driving from San Francisco (taking a day or two), planning to arrive on Saturday, but saw that the Expo closes early on Saturday!

You should give a call to runDisney and ask if it's possible to ship the shirt/pins to you. Two years ago I was supposed to do the PHM, but got stuck working. It was after the deadline so I couldn't defer my registration (I was reimbursed by my firm, so it was fine in the long run), but I called just to let them know. I didn't really know anything about runDisney at the time and was just trying to be courteous. I wasn't expecting anything, but they offered to mail me my shirt for free. They might be willing to do the same for you.

I've had to do emergency bib pick-up for two races at Disneyland. Both times I called runDisney the day before and mentioned my flight was pushed back and I wasn't going to make the expo. This way if they changed their policies without informing people (No!? What?! No large corporation that relies on customer service would ever do that, would they?!) I could try and work something out. Both times they told me it wasn't a big deal to pick it up morning of. They also have blank waivers there for you to fill out/sign.

That was probably me, lol! I tend to be pretty vocal about my feelings on that medal...

The link Ariel posted is the correct one with the story behind the design of the PDC medal. It's the only thing I like about the medal design wise.

It's not a terribly long story, that's for sure. If you haven't seen Pirate Fairy, I believe it's still on Netflix? Haven't checked lately, though.

Quoted a condensed version of the relative story below as well so no one has to click through (cut out the summary of the movie):

In designing the inaugural Pixie Dust Challenge finisher medal, Auerbach drew inspiration from the movie “The Pirate Fairy.”...

Auberach says, “Like the fairies, we can accept new challenges and with a little persistence, learning new talents, and working together, we can all achieve incredible goals.”

:tinker: Less than 4 months to go, pixies!! :tinker:

YAY! Now that it's 2017 it seems so much closer! My DD17 and I are soooooooooooooo excited. I bought another piece to my costume today.

And now that they don't let you cut through the Grand Californian anymore I'm thinking of booking a different hotel. Currently booked at BW Stovall's
