Official 2017 Star Wars - Light Side Half Marathon Weekend (Jan 12th - 15th, 2017)

Corral H for the half. Husband is in corral I. I think it really does matter what POT you submit because I submited a 2:45 estimated finish with a 2:53 half marathon POT and ended up in H, while hubs put 2:45 with a 3:10 POT and ended up in I.

I think we'll both be in B for the 10K.... I'm about 200 slots back from my number on the Avengers 10K and that was corral A, and we were on the cusp of the A / B numbers.

Note to self: Don't sign up for races separately ever again! It's too stressful :P

10k water stations only at miles 2 and 3?!

Make sure to bring your own water because that'll be a long back half of the race as you get towards the end and tired. Wow.

I don't know why they can't figure out the 10k hydration. Same thing at Avengers and Disneyland this year too!

I would suggest to everyone to bring their own water and fuel when you need to. I made a huge mistake during Dumbo and did not bring my own water and was hurting for the half the next day!!

At least they moved the med table from 5.5 to 3.5! There really should be two med stops for a 10K, but I guess this placement is better than during Dumbo.

I thought about you when I saw the med table at mile 3.5. I said "Keels would be happy if she was running this"

I mean, looking further at the locations of the water stations I get why there's only two: they're backstage and won't clutter the park too much. But you're also back stage at mile 5 so.... why not there instead of mile 3?

I was reading the program guide and it mentioned you could use the water fountains in the park so maybe that was their theory on that one?

I've heard many people say you're okay to rely on runDisney for water, but I strongly disagree with this. In 2012, my mouth got insanely dry around mile 2 of the 1/2. It wasn't anything that a quick drink of something wouldn't solve, but if I had not been carrying my own for exactly this kind of moment, I could have had a huge problem as I was nowhere near a drinking fountain.

That's weird... why is there 9 for the half but only 2 for the 10k... I guess theres water fountains in the park... Maybe that's the thinking???

For the Half...

"Nine beverage stations will be set up along the course, offering DASANI® water and POWERADE®. There will be one nutrition stop near mile 8 where Clif product will be distributed."

How do they determine where they place you in the 10k if you signed up for the challenge?

Has anyone seen any merch preview??
I think the last 2 years no merchandise previews hit until a day or two before the race at most. And honestly, I prefer it that way. Given how insane some of the expos have been, I prefer it if they keep merchandise hidden so that the runners are more likely to get it first.

I looked around for last years 10k corrals, but couldn't find it. But I wonder if it'll be a little different this year. Last year, half and challenge only went to E and this year it's J. I think that's great to prevent too much bottlenecking and crowding.

How do they determine where they place you in the 10k if you signed up for the challenge?

I asked this yesterday and @courtneybeth kindly told me it was based off your half POT.

Guys, there are multiple reports that Carrie Fisher suffered a massive heart attack en route from London to LA. I'm seriously distraught and really hoping she'll be OK. She's a tough broad (as she often calls her mother) who's survived so much.

I just read about that. I hope she's ok too. :worried:

It was the same for the Avengers races this year. Lots of complaints, but I guess two water stops during the 10k is the new norm.

Nooo. 2016 can't have her. We've lost so many awesome people this year. Pull through Princess Leia.

I'm corral A for the Challenge. I hope I'm in A for the 10k too.

Tell me your secrets of speed. How are you so fast!? LOL. My goal for this year is to hit a 2:40 half marathon time that I can submit for Dopey 2018.. I'm at about a 2:53 half and a 1:13 10K.... so I'm getting there. But seriously -- HOW DO YOU DO IT!?

I think it's the trash pick up and all that, hence why they're not in the park proper? But not having it back stage at mile 5 makes no sense to me. I wouldn't touch the Park water fountains even if I was desperate. :rotfl: The half marathon ones make sense because they're on the streets of anaheim.

I'm ordering a second water bottle for my flip belt next Amazon order. One thing I've noticed recently is that some of these races (not Disney, but some locations at RNR) had terrible water. I got horribly sick during RNR Vegas because of the water and I think it's time I bypassed water stations and fueled on my terms, my time. It may help with my speeds / time too.

I'm lucky my job is flexible enough so I can run a lot. And I run ... a lot. For the amount I run, most people would be a lot faster than me. I pushed myself hard on my last half so I could have a good POT for SWLS, but will be taking it easier for the Rebel Challenge and using it as part of my training runs for my half in February.

You can definitely run faster, it's all about the miles - but it's a lot of commitment. I'm using a mix of Hansons Half Marathon Method and a custom plan by a member here.

Latest update is that she's in stable condition. Thank the Maker!

Her condition is still critical though. Its stable in that she hasn't worsened at all. Its a sad situation all around and we can only hope for the best. She was said to be not breathing for up to 10 minutes. 2016 has not been a good year for many of us.

I got a total NON answer from rundisney and am waiting for another reply (to my message of "I have no idea what you're telling me")...

DH is very worried about leaving Seattle early enough to get the 5K bib. Do we think they'll have the early morning bib pickups before the race?
