Official 2017 D23 Expo Thread

I'd love it in Orlando as WDW is my home park and I live less then an hour away.... downside being there are a few Disney vloggers I follow who I doubt them and their elaborate cosplays would be able to travel to the east coast

Is there enough convention space anywhere in Orlando? Didn't they just build that Hall D23 in the Anaheim Convention Center? I can't remember who I was talking to at D23 2015, but I remember getting that information from somewhere. I think it's a space issue, unfortunately.

I don't believe space would be an issue. Star Wars celebration is probably the best we have to compare and Orlando held that just fine.

Do you know if they will put any of the merchandise for sale on line? Have they in the past? I want those throwback posters.

The convention center at Coronado Springs is currently being expanded, I have no idea if the space would be enough to handle a D23 expo. There are also the two convention centers at the Swan/Dolphin. Part of the issue with having a D23 expo in Orlando is having to ship the models and other stuff from the Disney Archives and Walt Disney Imagineering across country - very expensive. Also, most the people who would honored with a Disney Legands award or who would be tapped for presentations would be on the west coast.

We'll see what happens for 2019 - I would certainly be a happy fan if a D23 expo was scheduled in Orlando.

I can't see any Disney property convention space being able to handle it.

Thank you...I'm "playing along" with this for arguments sake. But there's no way that TDO accepts a non-ac transport system. I mean like a 0.0003451% chance.

The idea that "people will manage" is quaint and so Eisenhowerian...but who the heck are we talking about here?!?

Just wanted to add this story: My wife frequently tells the story of a Disney visit she made in the late 80s. Her grandparents rode in the van down to WDW with my wife and her family, not to go to to MK an Epcot, but because her Grandfather had a brother who lived in Orlando that he hadn't seen in years and wanted to spend time with.

When they dropped her grandparents off at his brother's house, they were surprised to find out that the brother didn't have air conditioning. Her grandparents didn't think it was a big deal because both grandparents had grown up in Alabama without it.

However, at the end of the second day, they got a call from her grandparents asking them to be picked up. The visit with the brother was over. Her grandparents said it was too hot in that house without air conditioning! :teeth:

The article says, "Air conditioning does not appear to be included but the Omega cabins will include more open windows than normal", so seems that they are counting on the air circulating as the gondolas move? They won't be glass enclosed hot boxes, but I am not so sure using the same method of cooling as the Friendship Boats is the best move either.

That'll be fun in the rain. But at least if the system does go down and power cuts out they won't become green houses. That happened to the Orlando Eye a few years ago - people were stuck on that mid-day in, like, July for several hours.

I think a handful of stuff pops up randomly. What does tends to sell out super fast since it's a small portion of the total inventory of an item.

I don't think it will.

My $100 bet is still in play - no ones taken me up. $100 says cabin's are air conditioned.

(BTW I looked closer at the main image of the gondolas, it's pretty clear that they are 100% enclosed.)

Everything I have seen on it says none. Rumored to transport 10 guests at a time and also speculated that they are working with the manufacturer to lower evacuation times to at least 12 minutes due to the lack of A/C.

So they are going to have 10 minute rides in a furnace? Those glassed in boxes will be 130 degrees on an August afternoon.
