Official 2017 D23 Expo Thread

Some shots looked open air, some looked to be covered with the Mickey characters. I suspect that those are windowed sides. Again, I would be completely shocked if they went open air with this. This isn't a ride, it's a form of transportation, and the weather in Florida is too questionable to have your transportation to have to shut down for 2-4 hours every afternoon 6 months of the year. Disney ain't that dumb.
I find the open air thing to be a new disney niche....they did it to wilderness lodge, and now doing it to several areas in the WDW resort!

Who are you to say what attendance level should warrant what closing time, or what should or shouldn't be included in a base ticket.
Look at the market. As a rule WDW parks have hours that are either comparable to or longer than any other theme parks in the industry.
Extended park hours are not the answer to overcrowding in the parks. A majority of Disney's guests are families, and most people of any age can not spend 14+ hour in a theme park for a single day let alone multiple days straight. If you can't accomplish everything you wish to in the 10-12 hours of a normal park days, then you should extend your stay not blame Disney for closing at a time you don't like.
There seems to be an idea on these boards that WDW is cutting park hours to historically low levels. This is absolutely not true. A look at that the park hours over the last decade shows closer to the opposite. Here is a link to historic hours: http://allthingsmouse.com/park-hour...-and-disneyland/disney-historical-park-hours/

There are two answers to issue of over crowding. 1. increasing ride capacity to accommodate the influx (which, if you have been paying attention the last three days, or three years for that matter, Disney has been actively doing) 2. Increase prices to alter demand. Again, Disney is executing here as well (and charging more for some hours in the form of events is part of this.) You may not like it, but it is absolutely the correct move in their position.

Nobody is being bamboozled.

The bounty we are seeing announced and executed is unprecedented. Three new lands in three years, additional new rides, new resorts, restaurants, transportation systems, entertainment, shopping, refurbishments and enhancements almost too plentiful count (although 50 is the going number) and yet with all of this that Disney is adding, you are focused on this idea that they are "taking away" park hours by offering more parties and events. I'm quite sure what it would take to make you happy.

This is an off the map rant.

Stop defending disney...they aren't interested in you defending them and you should take what is a legitimate observation about "after hours magic" and not get personally offended.

Discussing the appropriateness or inappropriateness of an upsell shouldnt get your Mickey ears in a twist.

The magic kingdom attendance has increased by 25% on the aggregate in the last 10-15 years. Longer hours is a logical adjustment. Shorter hours and a resell at night is a scheme. That's what that is. Pay for it or don't...up to you...but don't deny the truth.

Also, all the people saying that the Gondolas won't have AC are full of hooey. The truth of that one is that no-one knows for sure, but I would bet $100 right now against anyone that they are not going to send people off in those things with no AC. It would not be difficult at all to have small portable battery powered units on each car that they charge each night. Not to say it will be STRONG AC, but it will won't be 120 C in those gondolas.
I'm not stepping into the A/C-no A/C controversy, but if they do, no overnight charging should be needed. It's common to have solar panels mounted on the roof of each cabin.

Disney will have to figure that one out. Have you been in a monorail in the past 5 or so years? The A/C units are hit and miss on a lot of the cars. I've always LOOOOVED the monorail (since a wee lad) but the recent visit has left me with a bad smell in my nose.

yeah but theyre falling apart and are in rough shape. Theyre gonna need to do something about them. Unless people are okay with the dripping wet dog smell :crazy2:
I don't disagree but Disney isn't going to do anything until they have to.

There's absolutely no way the skyway isn't air conditioned...like none. They'll have to figure it out somehow
Everything I have seen on it says none. Rumored to transport 10 guests at a time and also speculated that they are working with the manufacturer to lower evacuation times to at least 12 minutes due to the lack of A/C.

Maybe, but there are plenty of families like mine with a younger kid (s) that are never going to stay out that late with an overstimulated, overtired, kid. We were done by 5 sll park days but one because we wanted to try make it for the fireworks. Maybe they feel the demographic of adults that use those hours isn't worth it. Other example...my boss insists we have office hours until 8 three times a week. He refuses to admit it, but the people that come during that time slot do not contribute to the bottom line. More often, we're paying staff more to be there than we're bringing in, but he wants to be seen as "accomodating".

I get that...

But what I'm saying it's that those hours should be in the base ticket...which have gone up 225% in the last 15 years...

Dividing up "parts of days" and the consumers supporting it is a dangerous slope that will hurt everyone's experiences if it continues...it's a buyer: beware for sure.

Who am I to say it? I know the history of the prices and the operation...and the facts are damning on some of these upsells. The accountants are like children: they need to be disciplined by the customers or it's gonna be a collapsed relationship sooner or later.

Has anyone planning this thing ever actually been to Orlando before?

...I'm beginning to wonder.
