Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

March Training Report

So, this is the last full month report before the Dark Side races, so how did everyone do? Do you feel ready yet? Only two weeks to go now!

I'm feeling just okay at this point. Although I completed every training run but one this last month, I'm still not at a point where I am confident that my goal half marathon pace is achievable. That being said, I know I can run for at least 8-10 miles at my goal pace, and I assume the race will give me additional motivation, so we will see how it goes.

Total Miles: 211.3 miles
Total Time: 31:58:06
Average Pace: 9:05/mi

I know how it can feel that way. I'm in my third Hansons cycle and part of the process is the cumulative fatigue. While you're in it you may not necessarily notice it too much, but after the taper you'll notice a huge difference come race day. What's your goal time?

My 10K training took a hit this week due to illness.

I'm hoping to start running again tomorrow but my Dr said not to push it. I'm so bummed because I had worked up to a 12:45 min mile (for me, this was STELLAR). I know I just need to beat a 16min mile but Ive been training with a shorter time frame in mind.

Has anyone who signed up to volunteer got a confirmation email yet? I think I signed my dh and I up to volunteer for the 5k but it was my first time signing up to volunteer and I had to do it while at work on my ipad. I am not sure if I did it right.

WOW that is a big monthly total! Super impressive! :worship: I did a measly 76 miles running for March...following Galloways plan. Like others have said, I don't love the Galloway plans that much. I really just went with it for this one out of sheer laziness! It was right there on the rD website, dates all plugged in, and after completing Dopey I felt a little lost so it was just something to motivate me and keep me going.
I am curious what your goal pace is? I have no goal pace in mind as the character photo ops are more of a priority for me for this race! :yoda:

I received confirmation in the mail and via email for my volunteer slots in the last week!

March Training Report

Included a Shamrockn Half (1:59:31) 2.5 weeks ago. Will run the 5th Anniversary Hollywood Half on 4/9 and then head down to WDW for the 5K and Dark Side Challenge. Feeling good and trying to balance training with my long runs (aka half marathons).

Total Miles: 109 miles
Total Time: 16:26:27
Average Pace: 9:03/mi

Hello! This is going to be my first runDisney race. I'm doing the 5k, hoping to work myself towards the half next year (did my first 10k a few weeks back).

My friend and I are doing the race and are local. Is there any way they will let me pick up her packet/bib? We both work the 14th, but I get out at 3pm so I would be able to make the expo. She works at a running store so they're pretty much making everyone work that week so she's not sure she will be able to get off early on the 14th to pick up her packet.

Also, any advice in terms of traveling on the 15th to get to the 5k? We are both 20 minutes or so away from Disney, so we'll be using our own transportation and I really have no idea what to expect.

Thanks!! :)

I am also doing the 5k, first one ever. Everything I've read says that you can not pick up anyone else's bib/packet. I'm sure my husband would love it if he didn't have to go to the expo with me, but I've told him he has to to because I am not allowed to pick up his bib. Curious if anyone has been able to pick up for someone else. I'd be surprised if they were.

Unfortunately I think she has to pick it up on her own. It's a change Disney and lots of other races put into effect a year or so ago.

He has to pick up his own bib and packet. If he really wants to avoid the expo, he can pay for Disney's new VIP service and pick it up the morning of the race.

I'm just going to spread a whole bunch of healing vibes out there for everyone right now. I've read through a lot of posts where people are hurting and dealing with stuff right now, so just know you've got positive thoughts coming your way. Rest up. Be safe. You've got this.

Nah, not a big deal. Like I said, I told him he has to get his own. So he'll just have to deal with it...all part of the experience, I say.

My goal time for the half marathon is 1:45, so I have been training based on an 8:00 goal pace.

Also, since I'm doing the challenge, I don't really want the 10k to affect my half marathon goal, but I haven't exactly decided how to approach the 10k. I know I'm not planning on going all out, but I was thinking of trying the 10k at my half marathon goal pace (sort of a test run for the next day). However, I might even go out slower than that to save energy. Any thoughts?

That's a serious goal, best of luck.

As for the 10K, how do you typically feel on Friday after the Tempo run on Thursday? If you feel overly tired on training Friday, then it would be best to do the 10K at half marathon or long run pace. But if you normally feel pretty fresh on Friday, then I'd say your safe at pretty much any pace for the 10K. I would just think back to how I normally feel the day after a SOS (Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday) and judge my effort for the 10K race based on how I normally feel the day after a training SOS (since that will be the half marathon race day). This system allows you to use your own recovery abilities as a basis for choosing a pace in a multi-day challenge.

I'm wondering if they'll have some sort of women's 10K "I Did It" shirt! I'm not sold on this one. But there are some fun things in this list.
