Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

Yeah, wait to see what the doc says. It may be something that just needs some strengthening which may not take too long since you're addressing it quickly. After that, you may be able to get right into water jogging if you can move the knee but not handle the impact. It's pretty terrific and lets you sorta keep up the miles. If not, keep an eye on your diet and get in some upper body exercise, and really hit the core!

About a month out from Light Side in January, I developed extensor tendonitis on my left big toe and cuboid syndrome in my right foot. I thought this would knock me down to walking the entire Rebel Challenge, but the cuboid prevented even that. Thankfully, they were both treatable and I got real aggressive with it. Training was thrown to the bike except for a 9 mile long run two weeks before the race. Got through both races with just the typical post-race soreness after the half, but I felt lucky to able to run at all. (That was my first half ever.)

So if the doc gives you some exercises to do three times a day, it may sound like much and may sound intrusive to your life, but do it! Be aggressive and stay positive!

Thank you so much for these words of encouragement :) I did double my ab workout today and did some knee-less cardio (not a lot of options for that!!!) I am so impressed with your determination--- I will have to ask the dr if I can do the bike if I'm not allowed to run!

I WANT THAT DEATH STAR!!!

The greatest tragedy, if I have to walk it, is that I may not have time to get photos with Boba Fett and Darth Maul!

Hey Everyone!

I'm new to this board, but not new to runDisney. That being said, I spend most of my Disney experiences in DL (where we can usually just walk to our hotel to the start and walk back from the finish). It's been a few years since I have raced in DW. And I'm getting nervous about my lunch reservations. I'm worried that just after noon is too soon for us to have time to go from the finish line to our reservations (with ideally a stop at our hotel). I don't know how long transportation takes over there to get about the parks/hotels. And I also don't know how long it takes to get all the runners across the start line.

Any information on transportation or start time waits (for later corrals, I want to go with the "worst scenario" start)? Any input/advice is welcome.

I can't believe we are THIS close!!!

Welcome aboard, @ayre.anne !

I'm new to runDisney, so I can't really help with too many of the details. But I can at least post what I found in the Event Guide for the weekend about bus transportation. :)

I'm not sure which of the races you are running, but I think your lunch reservation all depends on where you're staying (if you plan on going back to your hotel, like you said), where your lunch reservation is and what time.

I hope this helps a little, though.

Assuming you are talking about the half...I would say that the worse case scenario would be the last person crossing the start line at about 6:30. It is hard to guess since we don't really know how many people are in each corral, but there are typically more people crowded into the last ones. Assume 5-8 minutes between corral starts and there are 12 corrals this year?

Allow an hour minimum to get back to your hotel depending on where you are staying and if you are taking Disney transportation. The lines for the value resorts tend to be huge whereas the deluxe are not. (I am also accounting for the time it takes to get your medal, pictures, snack box, etc)

As the PP said, it will also depend on where you are staying in relation to where your reservations are, but I would give 45min to an hour to get to your lunch reservation from your hotel..

Hitting the Boardwalk so early in the race, I really anticipate longer lag times between corrals this year. At least the middle-back ones.

Only my speculation.

With a start time of 5:00am I hope everyone is running by 6:00.

I just can't see 18,000 people crossing that boardwalk area in 60 minutes .... it was crazy congested last year for the 10-ishK W&D .... and it was at the end of the course.

I just purchased Memory Maker and the terms & conditions still exclude RunDisney events. However, I talked to a PhotoPass cast member this morning. They are taking the race photos and the photos will be part of Memory Maker. If you talk to a vacation planning cast member via the main phone number they will tell you otherwise.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my post!! I apologize for not being more clear. I am indeed speaking about the half. We booked a bit late so our hotel stay bounces around during our visit. But at that time, I will be in All Star Movies. Our reservations are in Magic Kingdom. It's beginning to look like we should pack/prepare to go straight to the reservations just in case the congestion slows us way down.

And if it looks like we will have time to stop by our hotel: then awesome.

Thanks again, everyone! The last time I was in DW it was for Wine and Dine. As we participated in the afterparty, there wasn't a big issue with congestion to get back to hotels. It seemed to be evenly spread out.

Did the Rock n Roll Dallas Half for my training run today. I finished! It was my first half. I wanted to finish by 3.5 hours and I was a few seconds under that. Now I know for sure that I can do this!
I did RnR Dallas too - that hill in Kessler Park, I wanted to die!! I'm counting on nice flat terrain in Florida

Does RunDisney ever post higher resolution pictures of the courses anymore? A few years ago, I used to print out high quality pictures of the course for treadmill inspiration. However, the pictures in the digital event guide look horrible blown up to full page size.

Another way to take care of it would be to have more corrals and keep the lag times the same. I agree that they need to change something based on the early boardwalk portion.

Oh my gosh! I didn't think Dallas had hills like that! I walked it so I would have enough left in my legs to finish. The furthest I had completed prior to that was 11 miles. The only hills we will have are going up the overpasses.

Don't forget Uber. I imagine that could get you back to your room a lot faster.

Ahhhh. Good call. I may have to look into that. They barely introduced Uber in my city last year, so I forget it's a thing.
If you use it for the first time there are plenty of codes out there for a free credit. Plus I think you can refer to a first time friend which gets them and you a credit.
