Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

Running through MK is great for sure but I'll take this course over the January half or Princess half that go through MK.The basic problem with a half at MK is that MK is pretty far away from most everything which means you'll end up running about 8 miles on World dr. with not much else. The Osceola pkwy stretch to AK is also pretty får but with DHS,WWoS and the Boardwalk in the area it makes for a more interesting, varied course.
I love running through the castle, but this is definitely true! ::yes::

This will be my first Disney race (doing the Challenge) Does anyone have any experience, transportation wise, with the Wilderness Lodge on race mornings?

Side note - I got butterflies reading the reading the event guide - anybody else?

Has anyone received their Magical Express booklet for race weekend? I've never had a problem but also never noticed when I receive it in the past but thought it was about this time. I'll be traveling the week before and going straight to Orlando (so checking baggage) so just being mindful of getting it on time.

I haven't gotten mine yet either. I called to verify my address on Friday. Hopefully they arrive soon.

I haven't gotten mine in the mail yet, either. Figured I'd call them next week to check up on it.

At least we're all on the same bucket - I think I read where they send it out 21days in advance which would be this week - just post when you do receive and then we can start calling

We are arriving 4/15. My DME package arrived a couple of weeks ago.
Magic Bands set tho arrive tomorrow.

I finished my half costume. Boba Fett.

The accessories for dapper Chewie.

Your Boba Fett is so ADORABLE! And so much more feminine than mine... mine is a sublimated tee and grey leggings, I will have to put it all together and post a pic :) LOVE IT!!!!! It makes me want to rethink my look :)

Anyone pick up on the opening letter in the event guide how it says 5k for Padawans, 10k for rebels & Jedi master for the challenge - um did the person who wrote it forget this is Darkside and those people aren't part of that theme! My mom who is running was really annoyed with it since someone didn't take them time and care to get it correct for the darkside theme (unless they copied from lightside which is just as bad) & I said whelp that's runDisney for you :)
I too was totally bothered... I was like how about SITH LORDS... not Jedi Masters!

I overtrained! Did something bad to my knee on my 8.5 mile long run Saturday, have been icing and wearing a brace. NOT COOL! I was just starting to feel pretty invincible, too. FIGURES.

I am going to get it checked out tomorrow, but I'm a little nervous it may sideline me for a few weeks. Any thoughts? Recommendations on how to stay roughly in shape? I am probably going to ask her about exercises I can still perform. Has anyone else been injured this close to a race, and if so how did it go? I am signed up for the challenge. At this point I am thinking I will run the 10k and just be happy to run/walk or walk the half depending on how my knee is doing.

Depends on how good your base is. What is your longest run to date? You might be just fine. Depending on what the Dr says, I would recommend seeing a physical therapist. They would be able to give you the best advice on what to do without making the injury worse.

Also, do not push yourself on the 10K. That is the one you should take very easy so that you don't make anything worse before the half. Once you start the half, then you can run, run/walk, or just walk depending on how you feel.

Thanks. I thought about ordering a sublimated tee, but I really wanted to wear a tank. I've been training in NH and I know that the heat is going to be an issue for me.

Don't stress out too much. Wait and see what the doctor says. I second the idea of taking in easy for the 10k. Also, be careful about how much walking you do before the races. Rest, rest, rest.

Getting closer...now the Dark Side banner is showing on the page...any day now we should be able to get our Bib numbers.

BTW, This link shows up on Mobile (on PC it will auto-redirect you to runDisney website) - I have no idea which one will eventually work (or both may).

My longest run was the one on which I injured myself-- 8 miles. I was doing 5 or 6 miles 2x a week, one short run (3 or 4 miles), and then a long run. It was running off road that did me in (in grass). I was going to do 10 miles this weekend... SIGH.

Yeah, wait to see what the doc says. It may be something that just needs some strengthening which may not take too long since you're addressing it quickly. After that, you may be able to get right into water jogging if you can move the knee but not handle the impact. It's pretty terrific and lets you sorta keep up the miles. If not, keep an eye on your diet and get in some upper body exercise, and really hit the core!

About a month out from Light Side in January, I developed extensor tendonitis on my left big toe and cuboid syndrome in my right foot. I thought this would knock me down to walking the entire Rebel Challenge, but the cuboid prevented even that. Thankfully, they were both treatable and I got real aggressive with it. Training was thrown to the bike except for a 9 mile long run two weeks before the race. Got through both races with just the typical post-race soreness after the half, but I felt lucky to able to run at all. (That was my first half ever.)

So if the doc gives you some exercises to do three times a day, it may sound like much and may sound intrusive to your life, but do it! Be aggressive and stay positive!

well I've officially analyzed the course as much as possible via google earth haha I think the nerves are kicking in now...
