Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

I couldn't help myself. All I could picture was this...

Princess 2016 was insane opening day. Women got into actual fights over merchandise and it was a huge hot mess. If you want to read some of the drama - read that thread starting when the race weekend started.

Wine & Dine isn't a huge merchandise draw as Princess or Star Wars.

Actually, this years wine and dine was bonkers and I'd put it right up with Princess the year before. That may be related to how quickly it sold out, and smaller quantities of merch, of course. But darned if people weren't trying to take my items from me as I was standing in front of the mirror trying it on. Legit taking it from my feet or the one I had hanging right in front of me! My little brother stood there fending people off with wine glasses and everything else in his hand. But hey, maybe this will be limited edition due to the half of a half-mess of it all...

Edited because I'm not sure that word was allowed?? Haha :)

The funniest part was so many people tried, that I lost count. One person asked after she'd taken the tank top if it was mine. Since one out of a dozen asked, I let that one keep it!
That was nice of you! If it were me, she'd be getting a major case of stink-eye! :rotfl2:

I wish the preorder was open longer, by the time I signed up in January it was all sold out. I really don't want to deal with crazy people.

That is insanity! Of course, I'm also not a Black Friday shopper or a fan of huge crowds (and yet I run races with 20K other people?), and I would rather avoid altogether than have to deal with that. I can't believe how rude people were to you! Marathon weekend seemed pretty civilized, but I didn't go to the expo until Wednesday afternoon, figuring if they were out of stuff, they were out of stuff. We were able to still spend a healthy chunk of change and not get into any fist fights! ;) Frankly, I'm going to do the same thing for Star Wars, go in the afternoon, and if there is something that sparks my interest, great. If not, oh well. But what peeves me off the very most are the Ebay scalpers who pilfer the entire stock and then sell it online at exponential markup. For a race weekend, I think that RACE merchandise should be available to those actually running the races. Though I realize that Disney, as a business, doesn't care where the money comes from, as long as they get it, it's still a shame.

@AThrillingChase Unbelievable... :sad2: It's just stuff!

Exactly this!

And exactly this! I've never dealt with it at race weekend, but I've dealt with it at other conventions when trying to get an "exclusive" item. It is a huge collector peeve with me.

I went ahead and preordered a Dooney. I really like this pattern and I won't be at the expo till Friday morning. I would rather not chance it.
I am excited...need to actually start training consistently now.

Expo craziness... I won't go near an expo when it first opens - if I go on opening day, it's not until after noon. Doing that, I've never seen long lines or people fighting over merch. I also never got shut out of anything I wanted to buy - though I'll admit that I'm not a shopper and don't much care if I get stuff or not. W&D was quiet and relaxed when I got there last year, and there was plenty of stock in the beer glass I wanted. I had my pick of lots of various marathon weekend merchandise at that expo. Unless you have your heart set on specific items that are coveted by many, there's no need to get to the expo super early and deal with the crowds.

I plan on getting to the Expo first thing Thursday. I don't think I particularly need merchandise, but I really want to get my bibs and shirts as quickly as possible, drop them off in my room then spend the rest of the day at MK. I just hope the lines for the bibs are not as bad as the merchandise. AND I hope that they do not release any merchandise that I can't live without. I would like one of the Dooneys, but I will let fate decide that. I am not going to preorder and I won't stand in line forever.

Make sure if you are going first thing on Thursday that you get there really early. We went to the Princess Expo the first morning and we got the bus from our resort at about 9 for the 10:00 expo opening. We had to wait in line for a bit before the expo opened, but that was nothing compared to the lines that had formed when we were leaving. It must have been about 10:45 when we left, and the line to get in to get the bibs was all the way down to the parking lot. It was insane.

Thank you for replying. I didn't know that. Now I won't feel getting the shirt!

In reality, you could still get your shirt & runners bib. When you're at the expo to pick up your children's, just get yours too! You've already paid for it..no reason to not get it even if you can't run :)
