Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

My DD16 and I are planning Dapper Day outfits. We are going to go as Han and Chewie, but really subtle. I'm nearly done with the costumes.
That's awesome! I have debated and discarded half a dozen ideas for Dapper Days! I know for Sunday I'll have a floofy BB-8 skirt. As of now I got a good deal on a green polka dot cocktail dress on Amazon for $10. If it looks good on, I'll wear it since it'll match the 10k medal ribbon ;) If it stinks, I'll probably try to get a Dapper Han or Dapper Leia outfit together. It just seems too frivolously fun to not participate!

It's basically people dress in 50's clothes and be fancy like it would have been when Disneyland opened in 1955. They do a Dapper Days two times a year at Disneyland and once at WDW and DL Paris, so it's basically a chance to be silly and dress extra fancy. The WDW day is April 16. If you haven't gotten tickets yet, the Dapper Days tickets are cheaper than even the runDisney discounted prices http://dapperday.com/spring-2016-wdw-fl

How very cool!! Thanks for the info! I'll read up some more... :)

Nice find! I have only purchased one race dooney (PHM a couple of years ago). I did it the old fashioned way and stood in line (...forever!). Anyone want to run through the important things I need to keep in mind? Ideally, I would like to use my AP 10% discount and not pay active fees. But, not to a point that I lose my shot. I thought at some point one of the boards was discussing how to pre-order and still get the discount, but I can't remember where I saw that for the life of me.
So you can pre-ordering at full price + Active.com fees. Then after you pick up your bag, you wait in another line to return and re-purchase your bag. They give you back the full price of the bag and then you re-purchase, this time applying your AP discount. This is what I did during Disneyland Half weekend.

The catch is that you don't get the Active.com fees back...so I guess then it becomes whether it's worth it to you to pay the up to $20ish to have a bag that is definitely set aside for you. :confused3

Its actually also twice a year at WDW,Spring and Fall,I've been there for the Spring one where most of the events are in MK,for the Fall one its mostly in DHS,never been there for that one.Theres a few other Dapper events aside from the Disney ones that I've heard about,I don't know where I saw this but in some city hundreds of people dress dapper and mostly with old school bicycles ride around the town, usually stopping traffic with people looking on in amazement.

Ah! Thanks for the added info! Sorry I was wrong- while I've only heard about Dapper Days in the overall sense of them this is the first time I'm in a place that the convention will be happening at the same time. I have a lot still to learn, but the concept seems pretty cool and I'm glad I'll get to participate!

@HockeyMomNH Those outfits will be great!

So who is doing something for the Dapper Days? Anyone doing the dessert party Sunday night?

I'd like to go to Dapper Day, no idea at all what I will wear though! I have lunch plans (BOG) and FP+ for Magic Kingdom that day. I think it would be cool but wondering how crowded it will be. I'm a little concerned by the fact that the resorts seem to be really full! Also, I'm waiting for a friend to decide if she is joining me on Saturday.

Working on my run and Dapper costumes today. I got a Millennium Falcon key chain that I am planning to turn in to part of my hair piece for the dapper outfit. I'm doing Boba Fett for the half, so I'm sewing parts of that today too. Maybe I'll get some pictures up later.

I have never heard of Dapper Days! The costumes I'm hearing and seeing here are just awesome, and I'm so excited. I've got to read more about this.

@HockeyMomNH Those are both amazing! I LOOOOOVE the Millennium Falcon fascinator! And good call on the ribbon. Not that is looked bad with the ribbon, but seeing it with the felt details takes it to the next level.

Thank you. :-) The Millennium Falcon is from a key chain. I was so excited to find the hair clip. It's just the perfect size and shape.

Here are a few more pictures. First is my 10K costume. Darth Minnie. (the mashup was DD16's idea)

This one is the dress for my dapper outfit. A $6.99 resale find.

Sorry for the photo overload. I figured it would be something to pass the time while we wait for race details.

@HockeyMomNH The brown dress is freaking adorable. I love that - what a find. And good call on the adding the felt. The ribbon didn't looked bad, but the felt looks really sharp and crisp. Darth Minnie is a cute idea, too! Never would have thought of that. Kudos to your DD's idea. :)

I am doing the same, and having the SAME PIRIFORMIS problem... have you found anything that has worked? All I can do is take Advil before and after the run. I've done some of the exercises they suggest online, but haven't found anything that works really well. I did switch up my shoes, which has helped some, but it's not gone completely. I have never had Piriformis issues before.... it seems like each time I do one of these rundisney events, I find a new running injury to experience.

FWIW I've been seeing a Chiropractor that does Active Release therapy and Graston Technique and it's made a huge improvement. Along with foam rolling and stretching every day I'm nearly pain free after about 2 months.

I would think we have to be getting close to waiver time but with all the changes to W&D keeping them busy it also wouldnt surprise me to not have them released until the end of the month.

Looking forward to them. I think the waiver will show that I forgot to enter my proof of time. I am hoping I remember but if not. Oh well. Just going to have fun with this challenge too.
