Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

Does anyone have any info on what and when the ChEAR packages are going to be announced?

From my understanding, it is the same weekend as Boston Marathon. Lot of people were upset about that when it was announced.

This has been my biggest bet as far as the "poor" sales go. I think it's prices too because a few of the stand alone half's didn't fully sell out.

It's also the BAA 5k which is the start of the medley.

I don't know why half marathon registrations are still available, but I'm sure glad they are! Back when registration opened, my wife and I just couldn't commit to that weekend, and we thought our chance had passed.

Yesterday, we realized that the half is still open, so we got in SUPER PLANNING MODE. The result? Plane tickets, hotel reservations, child care, and 2 spots in the Star Wars Half Marathon (Dark Side, represent)! I would have loved to do the Challenge, but I'm thrilled that we could register for the Half this late in the game.

We just book our hotel. Yacht Club! Not at the discount price but it is our favorite resort and close to HS and Epcot where we will probably spend our time outside of the race.

I'm getting worried though as I haven't gotten my registration from my group leaders yet (they are busy with WDW weekend and DL SW) and POT cut off is the 18th. Since I'm running the challenge I want to make sure I'm not in the back.

Also I already told my fiance if BB-8 is on the course I will destroy any PR I may be running towards to meet that little droid haha.

And I am soooo right there with you on this statement. When I'm feeling myself lagging behind in my training runs, I start to imagine BB-8 on the sideline. Or R2. Or Chewbacca passing me yelling "Rowwwwr grrrrowr awr!" [On your left!]

Could not believe there were slots in the half available last Saturday; totally bummed that I didn't get a slot in the Challenge but I know the early runDisney bird gets the registration! Will be my first half. I cannot deal with my excitement, especially because my husband is letting me go ALONE (with a friend) and taking on our three little munchkins all weekend himself! Now I just have to figure out how long he'll let me get away for... and I'm super glad we got AP's this year Have never been to Flower and Garden!

Just saw a picture of the line waiting for the expo to open out at DL today, WOW! I wonder how bad Dark Side is going to be and if I need to alter my plans so I am there when it opens!?

You can try to get a challenge bib through a travel agent? I booked through Kristina Sharpe at Magical Enchanted Vacations! I think she help "upgrading" your registration. I booked through her to do the challenge!!

After much debate over doing the challenge or just the half I finally pulled the trigger and signed up for the half. I'm so happy to have the sign up out of the way!

Now to send runDisney an email because there was no C2C option.

You typically don't have to let them know you are doing C2C ahead of time but that is a good idea to email so they can add it to the file to make sure there are enough C2C medals that day.

When I signed up for W&D last year there was a box for C2C. I also live in the realm of better safe than sorry I don't really trust them with getting the info right on a late registration.

Yes! I haven't proof in and I also took a screen shot of the submitted info. I think dark side will be the first race with the new submission system, but just in case I have photographic proof of my POT should it be an issue ....

Thanks for the link! Always good to double check, and now I have the screenshot to verify if needed.
I am So looking forward to this! if I make this race it will mark the end of really long haul and I will be grateful to be there for so many reasons... Especially that I will be able to run and have actual training news instead of just bystander comments!!

I do not usually do cheer packages, but it is my understanding they are usually out by now for purchase? So, they may not be offering one for this weekend.

That said, this race weekend in particular seems dry on any events. And has a fan base that would shell out in a heartbeat. They at least usually have a breakfast or something. So I'm still holding out hope for some announcements.

This is my thought exactly. I am not sure why there are no events scheduled that runners of this race would clearly pay for. No Star Wars themed welcome party and no other special events. At this point, there are not even Star Wars fireworks scheduled for DHS any night of that weekend. It's like they just threw the event together and figured runners would be fine with just running.

I actually emailed RunDisney about this last week, but I have not heard anything back from them yet.
