Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

Anyone have any tips or suggestions for running the challenge?? I have done numerous marathons and half marathons but never races on back to back days. Any tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My suggestion would be to not try for a PR in any of the races. It's possible, of course, but I find Disney races are more fun when you stop for character pictures and spend time looking around at the sights in the parks. Run each race at 30 second to a minute per mile slower than you normally do, and you'll have plenty of energy for the whole challenge.

For you experienced Run Disney peeps: RE: hotel: We are a Run Disney/DVC family, but usually stay at Old Key West. Currently, we are booked at Bay Lake Tower, so the monorail beam will be our primary mode of transportation on race weekend. What are some pros and cons of staying at a resort with the monorail verses using the bus transportation?

Great question, I'm also at BLT for this race and am hoping to be able to use the monorail as much as possible, though I'm prepared to use the buses if I have to.

Hi - this may sound like a crazy but how do I submit my time for my races? I know I've done it before but seem stumped this time.

When I click on the link on the runDisney page, it brings me up for the sign-in page on the Active site. I see my race but don't understand what I'm supposed to click or do next to be able to submit my times.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

meg

I just recently added my PoT and IIRC, you have to edit your registration to add the info. There should be an <Edit Registration> or similar button there for you.

Thank you very much. That info helped a lot. Of course I didn't get a entered proof confirmation. Should I have? It said I updated - is that enough?

That's all it did for me. I went back in and confirmed that it saved all the info, so I'm hoping that's it.

If you're paranoid they somehow lose your POT and place you in the last corral, I would take a screenshot of what you entered. From what I've read, they are more likely to change your corral if you have proof that you submitted a time.

Guys,

I'm unable to make it to the Star Wars Half Marathon next weekend, due to a family emergency. Is there anywhere I can sell my registration? Thanks!!

No. You need to contact runDisney and see if you can defer.

I'm not sure if the monorails run that early as you have to be in your corral rather early. Check the times to make sure.

I'm pretty sure that for the races, you need to use the bus transportation provided.

Outside of that, as owners at BLT I can tell you we generally walk to MK and monorail to Epcot -- LOVE IT!! :)

Access to the monorail was the key reason I chose to stay at the DVC Poly. From event website:

Star Wars
™ Half Marathon – The Dark Side

  • Bus Transportation
    - 2:30 a.m. – 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • Monorail Transportation will be available starting at 2:30 a.m .
  • Participants must board a bus or monorail no later than 3:30 a.m. in order to make it to their corrals on time.

I was at GF for the PHM last year - saw lots of people getting on the monorail at the Contemporary and then switching at the T&C center as well. There were CMs helping out everywhere - including once you get off at Epcot to get you to bag check, security, etc.

Wow -- really?! That surprises me!! Glad to hear it as we'll be at BLT as well.

That said, while monorail travel WHEN IT GOES WELL is more pleasant to me, it breaks down or has delays far more frequently than buses do in our experience. We still use it a lot, but leave A LOT of extra time if we actually need to be somewhere at a specific time.

We've found the bus transportation to be fine, with the exception of one year when they had a massive backup with the buses for the Princess half.

Hey all,

Does anyone have any idea what the course for the race will look like?

Just found this thread so i apologize if this question may be repetitive. I tried to search as much as I could but could not find info.

Thanks in advance!!

I think the course is going to basically be a reverse of the Wine & Dine. Starting at EPCOT and finishing at WWOS. Wildcard will be how much construction, if any, might be going on at DHS that would alter the route from the W&D course. My guess is the bulk of the Star Wars character spots will be in DHS. I'll also be curious if it goes through AK, or if they do something different.
