Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

Whew - thanks! I think I would cry if I did all of that and then somehow didn't get a medal because I had forgotten to check in somewhere :)
You're welcome! If for some reason your bib doesn't register that you ran/finished the 10k, I would talk to a CM to see if they can pull up race photos to confirm that you did complete the 10k. I was super paranoid about not having a 10k time; so I checked my race results after the 10k (on Saturday) to make sure I was good to go. If something was wrong, I would have definitely contacted someone to make sure I still get my challenge medal.

I can't think of a better time to use the force!!

I am SO excited my first challenge is an inaugural SW race :darth: I am fully prepared to join the dark side.

This is my first challenge too! I couldn't pass up the thought of that challenge medal. I'm doing the C2C too, but with the Avengers race next November. I had only planned on only doing the 10K at Avengers, but if I'm doing a half at SW, I'll do a half at Avengers to get the c2C!

Hi, everyone!

Just wanted to hop in and let you guys know that some posts had to be removed from this thread. We do not allow posts encouraging folks to try to circumvent Disney's policies.

The AP and DVC early registration links to register for this race were only sent to the people entitled to it, so we do not want those private links posted here on The DIS.

Thanks for your cooperation and May the Force be with You! :darth:

For those of you looking to register on Tuesday, I highly recommend signing up on Active.com for a 1 month trial membership for $1. Just be sure to cancel the membership before the month is over or else you will be charged the full amount for a year membership. Full Active.com members do not have to go into the queue like non-full members have and you should be able to register faster. That tip is from a friend of mine who works with RunDisney for events.

Yea!! I feel so late to this party! Somehow (probably because I was too busy planning our Nov trip!) I didnt even know about this race until Tuesday when I read about it in a mousesavers email! I immediately looked it up (5am?) and went to book us a DVC room...it happens to be the start of April School vacation for us and we were looking at a vacation anyway - so it was a no brainer for my star wars crazed family even though I hadnt asked them yet! It turned out to be exactly my 7 month window and we got a room at beach club! (home resort is BLT but so excited to try BC! YEA!). Fast forward to tonight and I decided to check to see what the latest RunDisney/DVC promo was and found that we could do early registration! We got most of what we wanted - 5k for my 9 year old and I, 10k for DH (his first!!), but will need to do my 5 year olds kids race on 9/22...she wasnt ready for even walking the 5k...!!

We will be in Disney for W+D weekend but wer were not able to get registered in time so no races for us this year...but this is a great alternative!

I totally get what you're saying, but I am so thankful that the link was posted. I and other Disneyland AP holders were not getting the access to the link we should have. RunDisney and Disney IT were no help to me when I contacted them, just saying they were opening a ticket for the issue. I am entitled to the links and was not getting them thru the correct channels. I guess what I'm saying is I felt like people weren't trying to circumvent Disney policies, but were trying to help others get the benefits they are supposed to.

Anyway, I was/am grateful for the info...

I did this and I was able to check out super fast! Didn't help me on getting the challenge..lol..but checkout was easy and it saved me $10. I will cancel this week.

That sounds great, but honestly I don't think the queue was working if it even existed on Tuesday. We were on hold at 12 and never got in, but read about people getting on after us at like 12:08 and going on hold but then getting an opening and registering. If there was a queue then we should have been put ahead of those going on hold after us. I know for a couple of the past races there was a queue and said your time will open in 10 minutes, that wasn't there this time. I think it was just a free for all.

I was also bummed to see no after party - is that a change from the 2014 races to 2016 races? I don't see them on any of the races in 2016? totally bummed about that! I really hope that they add them...I am also sort of surprised that they didn't time this race to align closer to 'May the Fourth Be with you day'...but the date is actually perfect for us...

Also - have there been ticket discounts for races lately? Our last race (ToT 2014) had ticket discounts...I need to decide if we are going to pick up DVC APs for our trip starting in November or not...decisions decisions..

There's no after party for any day races usually, unless you count the Downtown Disney so called after party where you can get a few discounts if you show your race bib. They probably put it in April hoping it will be cooler than May, but who knows why they picked then really.

What I am really surprised by is that there is no hard ticketed night party on Friday and/or Saturday night themed to Star Wars. Seems like they are leaving money on the table by not having something like that.

AH! I get it now! The ToT 10 miler is a night race...with a day race, there isn't a place to party...I am still a bit surprised that they are not trying to do a hard ticket event one night that weekend for race goers - seems like an easy money grab - but the park hours are already predicted to be pretty long so probably hard to fit it in and their hard ticket parties at DHS have been crowd control nightmares to date...

Is there an easy way to sign up minors for Run Disney races? We want to run as a family and want to make sure at least 1 of us is in the same corral as our kiddos. We were able to sign up as 2 teams for Expendition Everest, are we able to do the same thing for the SW 10K?

There are no teams for Star Wars (that was a unique Everest thing), but if you have different corrals, you can all move back to whomever has the last corral letter so you can all start together.

You;ll sign up minors under your own Active account - don't need to set up accounts for them. No teams for these races. Corrals for the 5K and 10K are assigned based on the estimated pace you enter, so if you enter the same pace for all, you should land in the same corral. If not, people in early corrals can move back, so if you land in A and your child lands in C, you can move back to C to run together. You can't move from a later corral to an earlier corral, however.

I almost did this last week then didn't know if it would help! Glad to find out it did! Anything you can save on these events is like free money!

Tink is the weekend closest to May 4th which is probably why it isn't that weekend. Also Easter is early this year so that typically leave a mid April slower week...a few years ago we went on a similar mid April weekend when Easter was early and were shocked by how low the crowds were.

That said I would not be at all surprised if tink moves a week and this race goes to the weekend closest to may 4 in 2017. It will be impossible to hold it the same weekend as this year since that would be in the two week window of Easter holidays.

I'm surprised at that as well. I'm also very disappointed. We've always had such fun at them. I was hoping that since this was a inaugural race they might do something special.

I think that since the signup was so quick after the announcement, they don't have anything in place yet. It wouldn't surprise me to get an email or see an announcement from runDisney of the additional events added later.
