Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

If I do go, I'll definitely be there in time for the cast photo. :)

I'm going to do a couple more practice runs and then make my final decision on it. I'm just discouraged by all the setbacks and I don't want get pulled from the course by medical. :crutches: Thanks for the encouragement!
DNF>>DNS!!! You'll never regret doing it, but you'll regret NOT doing it. May the force be with you :)

I've only run Wine and Dine at WDW. Do they have characters and music at the staging area for a morning race or is it like DL where you just show up at the corrals? :confused3

Well, we had it at Star Wars at Disneyland in January, and it looks like there is a stage according to the event guide, so I would think so.

There is a DJ playing music to pump the crowd in the staging areas. I have seen characters lines in the staging areas for AM races, but I'm not sure if they are at all of them.

All of the morning events I have been to there have been character lines.

I am hopeful there will be the large mouse Ear event magnets when I get there Friday around noon time.

This is my first half marathon. I'm averaging an 11 minute mile. I figured I would be in the last corral. Is there a place where I can see my corral letter?

If you submitted a proof of time with an 11:00 minute mile or so (~2:24 estimated finish) you won't be anywhere near the last corral. Probably Corral E or so (they go to L). To find out exactly, check your bib number (from your waiver) and look it up in this table:

Happy race week everyone! I'm currently embellishing my padme costume and wondering how I will keep this headdress on. Just a few more days! Wishing everyone safe travels :)
Giant Bobby pins!! That's how I managed to keep my giant Maleficent headdress on. Make SURE to bring some with you!!! I've never found any on Disney property.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I'll be traveling from San Diego,California to Orlando this week for my first ever RunDisney event @ Disney World. I've done RunDisney events in Anaheim (Star Wars Half Marathon 2015 & 2016) and need some tips regarding transportation during race day. I'll be staying at the Residence Inn Orlando Lake Buena Vista. I understand there will be road closures during the 10K and Half. Since I will be driving, what would be the best way to get to Epcot during raceday (5K, 10K, Half)? Should I park at Epcot? Do they charge for parking early in the morning during raceday? Should I get a taxi or Uber?

Take i4 to world drive (exit 64?) to Epcot and park at Epcot. No parking fees if you enter before 7/8 am. For the 5k/10k you should be able to take Epcot center drive in but to me it's easier to use world drive

This...is...the...week. I can't believe it. Just spent my time catching up on thead after doing family stuff and birthday things for folks this weekend. Did our last long run for the 10K on Saturday. Just slowed it down and took it easy and still stayed under our required pace. I think we'll do just fine, and considering all we've been through this winter, that's a definite "WIN" in my book. High fives all round, people. THIS IS IT!

Also, took my Mom to see The Force Awakens yesterday. 78 years old and loved every moment of it. She's always been a Vader fan, so this Dark Side race just makes me think of her. And I gotta say...every time I see this movie, I think I like it a little more. (I started out on the "uncertain" side of things.) But I still cry over Han. Can't help it.

Happy Race Week!

Here's a trick for keeping hair accessories in... fishing line and a craft (large embroidery, not sharp) needle. They sell the needles at Joann's, Michaels, etc... look in the embroidery isle.

And then "sew" the accessory into your hair (braid a little piece of hair to give it something to hold on to). I have to do this all the time for my daughter's ice skating competitions, since bobby pins are not allowed, and they receive a deduction if any hair stuff falls on the ice (it's a hazard since it can cause falls). Works really well. There has to be a youtube video somehwere, but I haven't looked.

I might try a 1 mile easy run on Tuesday night before we leave Wed morning to loosen up. But, other than that, I sidelined myself because I started getting those nasty shin splints! I have a little stepping machine that I did last night for about 30 min, and will be doing about the same on a bike at my grandparents tonight when I visit (best granddaughter ever??) just to try and have some cardio. Other than that, just trying some ab work and planks to stay active. My last long run was supposed to be a 10 miler - I do much better with minimalist plans - but I scrapped it to rest. So, I have done 8.5 and two back to back 10k's last week for challenge prep, with a short mile on Monday. That puts me at about a 2 week taper. I also ran the half in January and the half of a half in Nov. so thankfully not too worried as of now. Just hoping the first couple of miles, which are always the most difficult anyways, dont feel like hell as I try to loosen up and get back in rythm!

5 inches last night. It looks like a snow globe outside here in Ohio.

This seems like a totally good plan. I think I'm going to try about 2 miles tonight and maybe 1 or 2 more Weds, very easy, and do some active stretching every day till the race (although I will substitute PARKING thurs and friday :)

OMG IT IS SO CLOSE!!!!
