Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

I finally put my Shuffle playlist onto my iphone, and then I used Zombies Run for the first real time today. :) (tried it once before, but it's super-boring with no music) It was fun.

When you run to all the beats (kind of double-time) to Rolling in the Deep, you go really fast and crack up at the end of the (short, indoors) lap. I was playing around with cadences and ways of running. (no doubt I've destroyed my legs now, whoopsie) I think it drastically underestimated my distance, and I somehow turned OFF endomondo 1 mile in, so I don't know how long I went.

And I just realized I forgot to turn on Charity Miles. Drat! No miles to post for Ravenclaw on Hogwarts Running Club LOL. (are any of you guys on HRC as well? I see people from the Princess page posting on HRC or vice versa; are any of them you guys?)

For Dopey weekend, I did for the 5k and 10k and then realized that Charity Miles' terrible app was what was draining my phone battery because of the terrible tracking they do. So, no more. Sorry, Gryffindor.

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!! No steak????

I know right! Ever since I've started this running, I crave steak so much more. Love that red meat!

Can't he become vegetarian a few days later ;)? A lifetime commitment can certainly accommodate one last carnivorous binge, no?

We were just at Disneyland for a week for Star Wars Half Marathon. That was his last real binge there. It started right after we got home.

What?????? I just cannot comprehend a life without steak!!!!

You're telling me! Steak, Chicken, Shrimp - 3 things I need in my life!

Ok, so no monorail offered for 5K and 10K?? What gives :( Also, what do y'all wear to hold id's, phone, etc? How long do most of y'all spend at the expo? Getting really excited, especially after listening to a podcast recently! Still nervous and feel like we are so unprepared, but excited!

I wear Sparkle Skirts for Disney Runs now and in the zipper I place the IDs. Phone goes in one of the side pockets. When I wore running capris, I wore a running belt that held the ids/gus/etc. I also placed my phone in my sports bra as it wouldn't move much then!

Where are you going? I've been veggie for something like 27 years and might have some thoughts.

I switched our Thursday Night reservation from Narcoossee's to Morimoto Asia
Friday Dinner is currently at the Boathouse. I know I should change this but I really don't want to.
Saturday Lunch - Tutto Italia (should be fine)
Saturday Dinner - California Grill (which should be fine)

Most restaurants, and Disney especially, are pretty good about offering vegetarian dishes. I am not a vegetarian but I often go that route in restaurants because I'm weird about my meats.

If you don't have a foam roller or a stick, you can also use a broom handle or something similar. It won't be as easy because it is longer, but it will do in a pinch until you get one. It might work better to lay down and have someone else roll the stick over that spot for you.

Um, I may or may not be guilty of running without id. I *try* to remember to grab it but I do always have my phone and my husband's numbers along with 911 are in my favorites. I just noticed that Road ID has one specifically to fit the fitbit charge hr and I always have mine when I run so that may be what I should get. And I have a free shipping code from last week's race.

Wow, y'all were some chatterboxes overnight! I love it! Ok, lemme catch up:

1) Last year, we stayed at POR, and I was in Corral E. I was in line for the bus by 0415, on the bus by 0430, off the bus at 0500, and in my corral by 0525 (I was texting, so I have timestamps, lol). I was walking pretty briskly from the pre-race area to the corrals, too, so if you're jammed up by people traffic, then it'll take a little longer to get to your corral. I'd allow more time, especially if this is your first runDisney race and you're unfamiliar with the layout.

2) I've considered getting a RoadID, but it might have to wait until after this summer since we're moving from VA to GA. I also need to make sure I can wear one while in uniform (I'm AD military).

3) I have prifiormis syndrome and occasional IT band issues (both on my right side), and I swear by my foam roller. I bought a large one from Target a few years ago, and I'm always tempted to cut part of it off and bring with me to Disney, lol. But, instead, I purchased the travel version of The Stick at last year's Expo, and it works great. My fiancé even uses it when his legs are feeling tight.

4) I spend about an hour at the Expo. We usually go Thursday around lunchtime, and it's always packed. Packet pick-up only takes maybe 10-15 minutes, then head over to the Expo to pick up one or two Sweatybands, peruse the Raw Threads shirts and a few of the other booths. All in all, it takes about an hour. I've known other folks who will stay all day to listen to the speakers, get fitted for running shoes, try out new products, but ehh, that's just not for me. I like to get in, get out.

5) We have an ADR for Raglan Road on Sunday after the PHM. We enjoy heading down there for the PHM after-party. It's so fun to see everyone walking around with their medals.

6) I'm seriously considering going pescetarian. I was in high school, but went back to eating meat when I went on vacation and because I got severely anemic. I've just seen so many horrific behind-the-scenes videos of cattle ranches and dairy farms (I don't drink milk since I'm lactose intolerant, but I do love me some butter and cheese).

You definitely should get one. I didn't end up going with a road id but gone for a run's version of the shoe id (which I liked better than the road id version for shoes) and I love it because I can't forget it.

Where in GA are you moving? We came here (GA) from Newport News almost six years ago. We still own our house there and it is coming up for rent again this summer so if you know of anyone moving to NN... keep me in mind!!

Road ID....how quick did they ship? Do I still have time before Princess? It would have to be in hand by like the 16th....
The several times I've ordered from them - they were SUPER fast. I think you'd be fine but you may want to check their customer service to see if 2 weeks will be enough time.

I haven't gotten my orders yet (waiting...waiting...waiting...) but it's looking like Savannah. :) I'll definitely keep you in mind.

Unless you might get carded buying post race refreshments. Then you'll want ID because that would be sad. My 33 year old sister is a HS teacher and still gets confused for a student, so I'll advise her husband to put it in his wallet so she doesn't need to carry it.

Sadly, I certainly won't need it, that ship has sailed ;)

Even though she's a day older than I, my wife is quite a bit shorter and has always looked very ... youthful. The absolute worst was when we were going to a museum, and the woman selling our tickets asked if my daughter wanted a kids' map. o_O

Wow! Y'all were active while I was a work today! Let's see...

1. I train with headphones and it all races other than Disney, I run with one in. There is just something about the atmosphere at Disney races. I like to soak it all in and hear everything.

2. I carry my ID and I also wear a Road ID, because I just don't go anywhere without ID.

3. Yes you have to get there super early. No it's not too boring. It's exciting! Everyone is excited and talking, and there is a DJ and a dance party!

I actually love the dance party. It is one (the only) place where you don't mind looking a little silly. Definitely a good warm up and so many people are doing it that is just fun. We were saying that not many people do it at the Disneyland races. I guess because people can show up at the last minute. In Orlando, what else are you going to do at that hour. They also have Princesses out for pictures.

Just a reminder for newbies that you can get your medal engraved at the finish ($20), there is usually small coffee cart in the family reunion area pre-race, a merchandise tent and post-race massages, so don't forget to bring a little cash or your credit card.

+1 for RoadID. I have the metal ID and 3-4 colors of the rubber sport bands. I wear mine 24/7. Hardly ever change the band from the gray, unless I try to color coordinate it for a race I am dressed up for.
I have 5 lines of info- my name and birthyear/ city and state/ DH's name and cell#/ Sister's name and cell/ Allergies and blood type . I also always carry my ID on me when I run. I watch too much Dateline. :o

Since we have almost 12 hours until waiver talk starts again, :jester: I need some advice....I can't decide if I need to run, worry, or just rest. Yesterday while at work my hip started hurting. Not terrible, joked that I was getting old and assumed it would go away. I can't figure out what I did, but today it hurts from my left hip down to the side/back of my leg to my ankle/foot. I haven't run in a week (crazy week at work), I haven't slipped in the snow, I haven't even done anything crazy with the horses (I train horses and give riding lessons). While sitting on the couch I can stretch my leg/knee/ankle and I don't feel any pain. But standing, if I shift my weight on my left foot, I feel the pain from my hip down to my ankle. I usually get in 5-8 miles of walking (and a little jogging) at work a day. Laying in bed with the heating pad now. Anyone ever experience anything similar?

I'm so sorry that you're dealing with this, but also so relieved you posted about it because I'm experiencing something so similar since my 10k race last Saturday, except my pain is more on the outside of my knee than my hip. I don't remember any twinge or anything during the race that caused it, but I could hardly walk on Monday. I ran Tuesday morning and it seemed okay but I figured it's better to let it rest, so I'm probably going to skip my runs for this weekend. I'm hoping I will feel perfectly normal by Tuesday to pick up my runs again there. I have it KT taped right now and I've been foam rolling, but I also want to thank whoever posted the IT band exercises because I will definitely be doing them when I get home today!

Looking now at altering all our dinner reservations. My husband has decided to become vegetarian. Luckily, Disney is very accommodating but probably shouldn't have us go to our favorite meat places for dinner.

Disney has GREAT vegetarian places! My wife and I have been vegetarian for about 10 years now. Any idea where you're going yet? We were going to go to Jiko, but had to cut our trip short.
We have never been to Portobello, but we're going to try that on Saturday afternoon. I've heard mixed reviews, but it's always fun to try someplace new.

I need to have a cup of tea (not a coffee person) before I run for caffeine.
Does anyone know if I can get into the food court at PoP for hot water at 3AM? That would be the easiest way to make this happen.
I asked on the POP board- but not sure anyone reading that has ever been up that early at Disney! LOL!
Thanks

Bought my hubby a Road ID bracelet for his B-Day since he rides his bike a lot.
Had a lot of laughs about him now being too old to remember his name!! (But we both know people who had accidents who needed it!)

Also, what do y'all wear to hold id's, phone, etc? How long do most of y'all spend at the expo? Getting really excited, especially after listening to a podcast recently! Still nervous and feel like we are so unprepared, but excited!

The expo should have lots of options for you to try. (although, don't forget the whole "don't try anything new on a race day" warning). I use a RooSport pouch, and even have a couple sizes for shorter runs when I don't feel like taking the case off my iPhone.

It should open at 3:00am. It opened then for marathon weekend so I would assume they would do the same for this weekend. They had signs posted about it opening earlier we saw when we visited POP for dinner. We stayed at Sports and they opened at 3:00am as well. Just grab and go items were available to buy but the drink machines and coffee were going as well as the hot water for tea.
