Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

If it snows during the PHM, I am prepared...ran this morning because the weatherman said it would not start snowing until late afternoon. He lied! It started snowing at about 3 miles!

We (DH and I) just kept running, thinking it was a brief squall...because, you know, it wasn't supposed to snow until late afternoon.

It snowed steadily miles 3-10. I had icicles on my hoodie string by the time we finished!

It was still better than running on the treadmill, though!

It's what runners do. I feel so blessed to be part of this community. You hear stories about people being rude or nasty, but it seems they are very few and far between. 99.999% of runners are amazing and supportive.
I agree. I've run into maybe 5 rude ones and everyone else is pretty wonderful.
That's wonderful! I hope mine isn't.
I hope not too! Have you been to a doctor?
Believe me, you'll be glad you did this. Going in unprepared is a huge mistake. I'd be doing the GSC this year if I hadn't done that in 2015.
:( I know it's the right decision. I just really wanted those Little Mermaid medals!! (Seriously.)
Thanks. You've made a huge step, and it's the hardest one...I think. Ask me again on Saturday and Sunday that weekend when I'm not running.
I'm with you. I think once that weekend is over I'll feel a lot better. :)

@lovingeire how did you make your shirt for the Ariel costume? I was planning on buying a white performance tee and then attaching a black layer in the corset shape, but am not sure the best way to attach it. Did you sew yours?

I did just that. I got a performance top and then took an old t-shirt and cut and sewed it to the tech shirt. Well I tried the no sew stuff but it didn't totally stick so a few tack stitches (by my husband to be hoenst) and it was good to go. I updated my skirt for this year though to a sparkle skirt! It's really hard to get warmed back up after being in cold weather like that. But at least you know now you can do it!

I'm starting to feel better about the race and my training. I don't have a good excuse, just busy and didn't train very well during the holidays. But this week I ran 5 times plus was able to get some cross training in! Did a 6 mile long run today!

My motivation to run may have had something to do with the Dooney and Bourke purses coming out this week! Now if only they would show us pictures! And of course I'm dying to see merchandise but I know that will be week of. So I guess I need to keep my movitation up until waivers/bib numbers are released!

Finished The Rebel Challenge + 5K this weekend. Now 5 Weeks until Glass Slipper! So glad I'm not doing the 5K for that! 3 days in a row is rough on the legs with the early mornings! Can't wait for Hatha Yoga on Wednesday after I get home!

My plan now is as follows:
2 30 minute runs during the weeks

Weekend 1: 3 Mile Run
Weekend 2: 4 Mile Run
Weekend 3: 5 Mile Run, Somewhere between an 11 mile to 14 mile run,
Weekend 4: 4 Mile Run
Weekend 5: GSC!

I will be honest with everyone. I don't really consider myself a "runner" because I do intervals. But today I was able to get on the DReADmill and do 2 miles without any intervals. I know it isn't a huge deal for most but for me.....I am definitely happy! Makes me realize that this is possible and I may do better than I hoped. Do they release a line up of characters before hand so that we can plan?

Same here! Runners on every level are great. Even most elite runners are just happy to see people getting out there and doing it.

I have. I'm in physical therapy now. It's getting better. Sometimes I just wonder if it is something I will always have to deal with on some level.

Agreed. I'm almost as disappointed about the shirts. I love the ones I have and the colors this year will be gorgeous, I'm sure!

I know what you mean. I'm happy I'm still going and doing the 5K. I just know I'll feel a twinge seeing everyone walking around with their medals.

Do you run? Yes. Then you're a runner. It doesn't matter how far, or how fast, or if you do intervals. Period. Don't let anyone (including yourself) take that away from you. Would you tell Jeff Galloway to his face that he's not a runner? Probably not, because he is...and so are you. You're doing great, and it is a huge deal!

They don't tell you the characters ahead of time, but some are the same every year, so you can get some idea from past recaps.

Thanks. I try to remind myself of that.

I was supposed to be three miles on the Galloway plan this weekend but my parents were in town. I did 5 miles of cross-country skiing and a 3 mile hike with them. I'm hoping that's enough. Got to try out the new microspikes and they worked great. I even ran a little in them.

I've always felt the same way. And last week my pilates teacher told people I was a runner and it made me feel so good.

I am not getting in run time this week due to a million appointments and a heavy workload but today I'm going to the trampoline park with the fam and that is a huge workout! I also have 5k races lined up for the next three weekends so I can get myself in the racing frame of mind, get accustomed to crowds and cold weather. It will only be in the 30's for this weekend's race. Brrrr!

Really cute!

I just deferred my GSC entry to 2017 due to injury. :( I want to wish you all luck in your races, and have so much fun!

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this! I hope you heal quickly and that you're able to tackle the other races on your schedule. Feel better!
