Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

The weeks just before the race are going to be super busy for me- so while I have a "quite" weekend I have started packing.
I always feel better if I have some time to toss things in the bag weeks before a big trip.
But I am AMAZED about how much stuff I am packing!
I tend to pack lite- always go carry-on-only even 3 weeks at time.
So packing ALL this is blowing me away....
  • 2 pair of running shoes
  • Running stuff- bra, socks, foot ball, roller, etc
  • Cold gear- cheap gloves, throw away layers, longer running pants
  • Rain stuff -trash bags etc.
  • Sun screen, visor
  • Costumes for 3 races
  • Normal clothes for park days/after race
Anyone else started yet?
Suggestions?

Bev

Right there with ya! Add to the fact that I'm making sure two others in my running party are well equipped also. The only good thing is we are not staying quite as long as we have in the past, and the day of my second run we plan on doing absolutely nothing but resting, laughing, enjoying each other's company, and possibly finding a bottle of bubbly to pop in celebration. So just kick around clothes for then - that's easy. But like you mentioned, all the necessary items for the runs alone is overwhelming. Keep packing, our motto is, "You never know, and you never need it until you don't have it." :stitch2:

For the Expo Im planning on being there at opening on Thursday. I'm assuming it will be crazy busy. Also can anyone buy merchandise or just runners?

Not yet, but I need to! I make my "normal clothes" double as running clothes just in case. I also have a small roller that I carry on.

It will be crazy busy! The first day is the best day to go. Yes, anyone can buy merchandise and they do.

Anyone ever stayed in any of the Disney Springs hotels during a race weekend? I'm considering moving....I usually always stay on property, but looks like it might be a solo trip for me. Typically I stay at a deluxe so I was thinking of saving a couple bucks on my room, but there's no Mod.'s available and I really like to hot tub soak the night before a race. Who has race weekend experience with the LBV hotels - mainly looking on transportation/traffic on race morning. I will have a car.

Tough run got my 19km in (11m ). Lovely morning no rain! It was sun and cloud but when we turn east on the dyke the wind off the water was so strong. Should have changed my route to have the wind behind our backs. My husband ran with me. Around the 15km mark my legs got heavy, my pace was slower but I finished. I went to Spin Class at 6:30 am came home and decided to go for a run a couple hours later. Maybe not the smartest idea! My pace suffered but it was good to get out there I made it through! Enjoyed a really hot bath reward.

It is so cold where I am today and not only cold but windy. I'm thinking I might push back my run until tomorrow because I am not about that life.

I'm trying to put together a packing list as well. My friend pointed out that I'll need to leave plenty of room not just for souvenirs but for the four shirts I'll be coming home with so I may just pack less shirts and wear the race shirts around the park instead.

30 mph winds where I am today, 11 degrees, not sure about the windchill, don't want to think about it;) Not much sends me indoors, but with that wind, and the fact I'm fighting a cold, inside it will have to be. I haven't run in 6 days, I hurt my ankle last Wednesday, so I need to get back to training. Big storm predicted here this weekend, so may have to do my long run a day early on Friday.

I do wear my race shirts all weekend to save packing space. Starting to think ahead for packing, but not getting stuff together yet. 2 costumes all set, one to go!

Weather here is bad as well. Air temps in the single digits with -0 windchills. They're forecasting for blizzard like conditions this weekend, which means my back to back to back
run will be in my basement on the treadmill.

I'm only packing in my head so far. I will pack all of my running stuff in my carry on. I've already had one nightmare about not being able to find my running clothes on race morning. Haha.

We are flying Southwest, so two free bags each for check in. I plan to take full advantage of that too. I always bring an extra empty duffle bag in the luggage that I can check on the way home, since we always seem to have so much more stuff on the way back. ;-)

It's only 7:30am in the morning, and today has already been the Mondayest Tuesday ever. First, I set my alarm las tnight for a few minutes early today since I'm adding mileage to my mid-week runs. Only, my alarm didn't go off at all this morning. I checked my phone and it was set properly, so I don't know why it didn't go off. I rushed and grabbed my workout stuff, warmed up my car, and noticed it was way too cold to run 4.5 miles outside, so I headed to the gym at work instead (ugh). I get there, and the only 5 treadmills in our cardio room are occupied. Which means I had to do my workout on the elliptical, which I loathe. (Especially when one of the guys on the treadmills was walking with his arms up on the display panel, so I know he wasn't in it for the workout, he was just there to socialize. He kept talking to another runner, who you could tell was annoyed.) Anyway, I got so frustrated and bored on the elliptical that I decided to head to the weight room and get a leg workout in. Left the gym to go shower in the locker room at my building, only to realize that I forgot the small hand towel that I use as a floormat for when I get out of the shower. Ugh, I'm so done with today.

Anyway, on the subject of packing, I started last night, lol. All the stuff I had purchased for my running outfits and disneybounding was starting to take over my closet, so I decided to put them away in my suitcase in the order I'd need them on our vacation. I usually use the shirts they give us for the races as pajama shirts, so that I don't have to pack pajamas in my luggage. One less thing to worry about.

I need some advice from the girls... for the girls. I have three sports bras. All VS but all manufactured at different times and with different amounts of wear. Two are the same but one is slightly different. But they are all chaffing in the same spot. No matter how much body glide I use, I'm getting a blister in my cleavage! But only on one side. And chaffing diagonal from it on the other side. I suspect it is from the way I'm moving my shoulders during a run. I have to figure something out because this Red Sox bandaid in my cleavage isn't as sexy as one my think!

My favorite is the Panache Ultimate Maximum Control Sports Bra. It converts from a regular bra to razor back, and it comes in underwire or wireless. I've only tried the wired bra, but that's a must for me (30G). I had the same issues with chaffing and blisters after only a few miles with every other bra I've tried up until I found this one. It's not a cheap bra, but it's been worth every single penny.

Also, did they change the kids race times this year? We booked it for our toddler after seeing it started at 9 am in Epcot last year. I just looked again and noticed its at 11 at ESPN this year. Totally bummed, we will have to skip it now :(

I noticed this, too. My 5 year old is so excited about running in Disney that we have shuffled dining reservations and park dates around to make sure he gets to participate in his race, but I'm super disappointed that it throws off our Saturday so much.

I'm in need of some SERIOUS post-Dopey pre-Princess motivation, y'all. This is a solo trip for me, so I'm looking more forward to Tink and Disneyland Half.

Hopefully when I get home and all of my costume pieces start arriving, my mood will change. Anyone else lacking motivation right now?

I saw something about a 1000 mile challenge, but I don't know where to sign up or track it.

I don't know if it's the same one; but I joined the challenge through Mapmyrun+ (I happen to have MVP hence the plus, but I believe challenges are for everyone) and as long as you log a run (doesn't have to have gps on, and I think it counts even if you literally manually log it) from Jan 1 to Dec 31 it counts. I'm up to 60ish k right now. The challenge was for 1000k. So roughly 700 miles.

Great job on your run today. There are still 6 weeks left to train so plenty of time to get back on track.

No word on Dooneys, and no medals yet. :-(

I came to check in on the thread (Thanksgiving/Christmas/NYE just kept me off the boards) thinking that by now we'd have heard something. We're officially less than a month out and no news yet? No medals/dooneys/NB's????

Is the Dooney pre-order closed? I go to my active account, click "puchase add'l merch" and it only has pins and race retreat and breakfast available. How were others able to access the pre orders? TIA!
