Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

When do you preorder the packages?

I don't recall being able to preorder a package. There was a voucher you could preorder, that gave some amount of savings. I can't recall the amount...maybe $60 for $80 worth, or something like that?

To be honest, it would probably be difficult to run the 5K unless you start at the front of Corral A. The crowd is so massive (at least it was for Jingle Jungle 5K & the ToT 5K we did in 2013) that its hard to really get a good pace going, much to the annoyance of my husband. Walking the 5K will be no big deal!

I cant say I totally agree with that, unless you are a super fast runner...in which case, I wouldn't know! lol I am a middle of the pack runner and a Gallowayer. I ran/walked all three races for the last 2 years.

Does anyone ever go into any of the runDisney events planning to walk the entire thing? I'm just doing the 5K and had planned to be able to jog part of it at least. But I keep having one physical issue after another. Most recently a badly sprained ankle and have been having issues with my bad knee (I've had 7 surgeries on it over the years) and I'm going to the Dr about it on Thursday. I know I can at least start the event and hope to finish it. I just wonder if I will be one of the only people walking that much!

I'm possibly going to do that. I'm not sure yet.

Which brings me to the current state of my training... As some of you know, I was injured at this years GSC and am still rehabbing said injury. Due to that and some other health issues, I have had to start training from square one a few times. I am currently at 2-ish miles. I am doing the 5K and 10K, not the half, so that's good. I am just trying to figure out whether I can comfortably do the 10K without overdoing it. I'm still rehabbing, but run/walking is feeling pretty good right now, and I have the all clear from my PT.

I do! I've walked numerous runDisney races to include the Dopey challenge in 2014. I'll be walking the GSC as well as the 5k. There are a lot of walkers in all races so you will NOT be the only one. Just continue your training and have fun with it.::yes::

Oh wow...this makes me feel so much better! Thank you!!!

If I decide to do the half at Princess 2017, can I use my time from the 10k in 2016?

I'm sulking a little. I was hoping to do a girl's weekend over Wine & Dine and convince some friends to do one of the races with me. But I won't be able to because we have to go to my husband's class reunion over Thanksgiving. I just can't afford two big events in one month.

Hi all,

My mom, sister, and I have signed up for the PHM and it is all of our first 1/2! We've been steadily training, but the more I read about some people's pace and time, I'm getting super nervous about being swept! More so for my sister than me-- I did 9 miles yesterday at an average of around 13:40. My sister (and Mom, who's keeping a slower pace to encourage sister) did 7 miles at around a 15:30 pace. Am I worried for nothing? Or should I be more concerned than I am? Be honest!

Either way, we are all super excited.
I wish I was where you guys are in my training. I'm worried about being swept. You guys are going to be just fine. My first half too. I plan on these next 6 weeks to be very, very productive pace-wise for me.

Was going to do 8 today but the rain kept me inside... so 3 on the dreadmill. Will try for tomorrow! Finally got our note reservation info so was able to secure FP+ that I wanted, thankfully everything worked how I wanted so that is promising. Now I just need to finish my costume, keep running and February 21st will be here before we know it!!!

I am getting a little nervous. We have not received our ME stuff yet. We are scheduled to fly in on February 18th. What about anyone else???
I fly in the exact same day and haven't received ME tags yet.

Same here. The card we got in the mail after we booked our reservation back in July said that we have until mid-January to customize our Magic Bands. Since we booked a package instead of a room-only reservation, I assume our MBs/luggage tags/DME info will arrive toward the end of January or beginning of February.

Got soaked braving 3 miles in the rain today. Although I finally got to make use of my new rain jacket and got a new PR of 8.19 for my fastest mile!

What is everyone doing the GSC up to for their long runs? Currently a bit concerned how my legs are going to cope with doing the 13.1 after a 5k and 10k the days before...

Ok thanks. That makes me feel better!

Since buckling down on training I have done 9.5. I think it is next weekend we start the back to back runs. I did it in reverse this week and I know I was hurting. But it will get easier.

Speaking of photo packages...
I am assuming that Marathon Photo offers a deal with GSC for both races.
I am doing the 5K as well- is there a way to get a package for all 3 races?
Does anyone remember?
Thanks

I got my tickets in the mail today!! YAY!

If that is your only option for a race, then yes - you can.

Frankly, I would try to find a local 10K closer to the PoT deadline for the 2017 half to run for time. Unless you plan to run full-out and skip all the fun stops, you can find better races to log a 10k time than Disney for a future race to move you to a better corral.

I'm not doing the GSC this time, but I have done it twice. Just take it easy. Honestly, I took it easy for all 3. I did run walk intervals, but didn't try to push my pace. Also, no commando park touring beforehand and in between.

Nope. You have to get the 5K, then the GSC package.

Agreed. Your time will likely be faster on a local race.

Did 4 miles on the treadmill this morning, after taking a week off for Christmas. It's insane how much just one week off and eating ALL THE FOOD IN SIGHT can be detrimental to your training. My pace slowed way down. Not sure if it's because I wasn't outside (which is my preference for running) or what, but it was not a great run. Taking tomorrow off, then shooting for 3 miles on Saturday, 6 miles on Sunday. This will be my first back-to-back training run weekend, so I'm taking it somewhat easy.

As far as race weekend goes, I'll let my fiance determine what pace we run, since he's not as experienced as I am and he's not able to log as many training runs as I can. He's only doing the 5K & 10K, though, so he may want to run a bit faster than I'd like to before the half. I'll tell him to back it down if I feel he's dusting me, lol.

I have frankly been slacking at training. I've been off my game with the kids home from school and I feel like it's been flooding for weeks. I'm up to 8 miles training wise. (I just trained for W&D though so I have trained up for a half recently.) but I've got to get these back to back runs in. I was also thinking I need to take my kids for walks during the day after I run so my legs are a little more used to touring and running. I felt really prepared for Wine & Dine but the reality of 3 races in 3 days has me a little scared.

We just don't have that many 10k races around here. I think there is one in late October. If I submit my time from Princess, when I sign up, can I go back and submit a new time later?

I feel the same way. Getting to the gym has been a challenge because they are on reduced child watch hours and it has rained so much the tracks are like doing a mud run! Plus the rain and high humidity have given me a month long headache. And this is a busy time of year for my business. Orders are coming in fast and furious so when I am running, I'm thinking about what I need to do next.

Don't be scared! It's doable. Just take it easy leading up to the races and in between.

Yes you can submit a new time. You can also wait until after the October race to submit a time at all. Just make sure you meet the deadline.
