Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

You can usually check a bag somewhere, so even if you're alone you can bring your own stuff. I always bring a banana and coconut water. I never used to bring my own banana until I went to a race where they ran out!

Am I wrong in thinking they don't allow you to check cold packs? I'd love to bring chocolate milk, but I only like it cold. For some reason I have it in my head they don't allow cold packs. The Powerade and banana post race have been fine for me, but I'd love my chocolate milk if I could bring it.

I'm not sure! I know you can't take it in your carryon luggage.

Event guide for Wine & Dine says no cold or gel packs at bag check.

And for me, my stomach has a time limit on it. If I'm eating inside of ~15 minutes, I can do it, can eat for a short-ish period of time comfortably. If it's 16 minutes, the stomach is shut down, and I cannot eat (or drink, not even beer), for hours and hours, without absolutely forcing myself, which makes me feel horrible. It's NOT good. Having the food in my gear bag isn't always useful b/c of my ridiculous stomach.

I definitely cite that early-food/chocolatemilk as being a big reason why I recovered so well from my first back to back event!

This! x 1000! I ran a local half last weekend and was about to hug the volunteer giving out the chocolate milk at the finish. I love getting that chocolate milk immediately. I drank two right away and felt great all day. In September, I ran a half where they don't give out anything at the finish line - not even water. Would have to walk a bit, then stand in a super long line to exchange a ticket for a small box of food, water and . . . Red Bull! No gatorade and no other drink except for the Red Bull. What? So I walked toward the metro (this was in D.C.) and bought a gatorade on the way, but it was too late. Stomach shut down, couldn't consume more than a couple sips and didn't eat for another couple hours. Felt horrible all day.

I don't really understand the love for chocolate milk after a race. Not a fan. :crazy2:

My 10k a couple weeks ago was perfect at the finish. Chocolate milk, Gatorade, water, apples, bananas, bagels and chocolate chip cookies. I ate everything but the apple, lol! :) And the chocolate milk was the first thing I had. :)

My parents live in FL - well in the winter at least. They meet us at Disney, I was thinking I'd get good old mom to bring one for me. I'd be afraid it would break in my checked luggage.

I knew it must have come from somewhere:). Thanks for confirming for me.

I figured! You could maybe put ice in a couple of ziploc bags? It would melt, but it would still be cold.

Good idea! Maybe I'll try that for the 10k this year. For the half, with how early I do bag check, and my 2+ hour finishing time, I'm still not sure how well it would hold up. Unless of course it's Frozen 5k weather;) I could try a shelf stable one, like Horizon Organic, that way it would still be safe, even if not ice cold they way I prefer. Maybe I'll test the theory at Avengers next weekend. At least there my hotel will be a relatively short walk if it doesn't work out.

Also...it's delicious. :teeth:

Reason #1 for me!

So someone gave me a link to use to input my flight information for DME online...I used it a few days ago and guess what I got in the mail today?? Magical Express tags for PHM weekend! Almost 4 months ahead of time! Craziness! :confused3

could you post or send me the link...I got one on the resort board but it doesn't work.

I think I've read that, too.

For W&D last year I wasn't worried about it getting warm. :)

It happens sometimes.

I'm wondering if you chocolate milk lovers could freeze the milk itself. The Horizon boxes might work. It should be thawed in time for the end of the race, but cold. I would just put it in a plastic bag so that the condensation doesn't get on the rest of the stuff in your bag.

I hear they're sending the new luggage tags with the MBs, so be sure to check under your MBs when they arrive. They're supposed to match the color of your MB (red MB = Minnie, etc).

I want mine, too!

I have a 5k on Saturday and it is at night. I don't usually run at night so I'm not sure how I'm supposed to eat all day. On top of that, it is supposed to rain. Not just rain... thunder, lightning, the whole nine yards.

Luggage tags are only for those who booked packages FYI.

hmm. Is your stomach a nervous or sensitive one? Will there be portapotties? I'd just try to eat mildly during the day if you haven't been practicing the eating part for this run.

If there's lightning surely they'll cancel the run?

I don't think I get one of those since I booked a room-only reservation :( I wish I did! The ones I got yesterday were the yellow tags! I've never gotten them so early before! :)
