Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Y'all are cracking me up. My face doesn't sweat. If I were to wear make up on my back, I might have a lot of running colors. Lol! My mother will roll over in her grave if I post pictures of myself without makeup and with dirty hair! Maybe my tiara will draw the eye away from the rest of my hot mess.
Hey, as the kids say...you do you. No judging from me! :)

There is no way I'm waking up at 3am and putting on makeup. Even with a guarantee I wouldn't sweat it out I just don't have time for that. I'd rather spend that extra few minutes sleeping. Actually that goes for putting on makeup most days.

I just curl my eyelashes. I can't do any kind of mascara when I'm running. But my eyes are super sensitive. If I one starts bothering me it will "weep" for weeks.

So I was already signed up for Wine and Dine, the WDW Half, and the Pixie Dust Challenge, and as if I'm not crazy enough I just signed up for the Glass Slipper Challenge through a charity group! I ran princess this year, but when I saw that next year is Little Mermaid themed I couldn't pass it up....
:eek::cheer2:

Ok, still a newbee here. But from what I am reading and gathering...the consensus is the 5k medal will look like what has been posted here on the boards, in that soft rubber feeling material, and the 10k could have the shell but in metal form silver or gold depending on what Disney used last year? I don't do shirts as I've collected numerous over the years and local runs. Way too many now overflowing from my dresser drawer. But I'm hoping I have the general gist on the medal detail. LOL

These are the medals from last year. Whatever the theme is usually appears in some way on the ribbon and with an icon of some kind on the medal. 2015 was Frozen with the snowflake and 2014 was Cinderella with the pumpkin carriage.

And you can get a pink C2C so I mean what's not to want.

Does anyone know how often the water stops are at the 10k? Is there nourishment at the end of the race? I was reading some posts about the Marine Corps Marathon and apparently the water stops ran low and the food at the end was out when a lot of people got there. Apparently spectators were taking the food for themselves and their families and runners were taking more than their share. I'm just curious how Disney handles that.

And thanks to whomever suggested downloading movies! I forgot that some of my faves came with a digital copy so last night I downloaded The Heat and this morning I laughed my way through 3.9 miles.

The water stops (yellow Gatorade too) are about every mile and a half for the 10k. If you google "Enchanted 10k course map" you can find the map and see where the stations are. There is plenty of food at the end, bananas, a food box with a variety of snacks, Powerade and water. I don't think they've ever had an issue running out of those that I've heard of.

I read there were a couple of logistical problems at MCM, that lead to their troubles. Not an excuse, but real issues that lead to unusual circumstances. One of the Metro lines broke down, causing people to have issues getting to the start, and one entry point had issues with their metal detectors. That also contributed to late starts. So they had to keep the start and finish open later than usual. That lead to unusual timing of finishers, and more finishers crossing the finish line, as opposed to people being swept to another location.

Got back on the dreadmill today. Was both better and worse than I remember. :)

Then I saw one of my yoga teachers walk by and realized that I really could use some Restorative Yoga (you use props and you relax into poses for minutes at a time, rather than "straining and sweating" in the poses as she says) after my first back-to-back event this weekend. So 24 minutes into my 30 minute plan, I left the dreadmill and made the excellent choice to do the 75 minute yoga class. My back feels sooooo much better.

Which WDW resort is best to stay for the PHM? Is there any resorts that are better for transportation the morning of PHM? I'm currently booked at Port Orleans Riverside but I'm thinking about moving to either Pop Century or Caribbean Beach.

At Disney, runners are funneled through a secure post race area. Runners are handed Gatorade, water and the food boxes. I must say that when I've volunteered, I have had to ask runners to only take one. Some runners have definitely tried to sneak extra as they walk by. Spectators are not allowed in that area all and generally, runners are not allowed to re-enter once they walk through. At MCM post race, it was almost a free for all. The Marines were kind of scattered and there wasn't really a clear line of where to go once you got your medal. Family members and other spectators were all over the place. I also think some of the water stops poured way too much water in the cups... That being said, I absolutely loved this race and will try to run it again in 2016.

If runners were respectful of their fellow runners, it shouldn't be an issue. There is never any reason for spectators to use runner supplies.

Ugh. Don't even get me started about this. :(

Hi, everyone! We have some bad news on our end, and all our child-watching options have disappeared for the Princess weekend.

We currently have two Glass Slipper Challenge registrations. One option would be to buy 2 additional air tickets for our kids, but we don't really have that money, plus we wouldn't have anyone to watch them while we're racing. Plus, we'd rather not take them out of school (although the first 2 reasons are the real killers).

Sadly, it looks like our only real option is the abort the whole weekend. Our airline tickets are with Southwest, so although we can't get a refund, at least we won't lose our system credit. We're using DVC points which can't be banked, so we'll have to rent those points ASAP. It's a pain, but doable. The big concern now is the race itself.
So, what are our options with the race registration? How would we start the deferral process? I see older blog posts from other websites about how to do, but those processes are obsolete. I don't see where to do this on rundisney.com. And do we HAVE to defer for the same race the following year, or can we defer to a race where we're SURE we'll be able to make it?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

So, this is from the Avengers page, but it is the same set of rules I've seen the last two GSC. My sister deferred PHM 2014, and I considered deferring this year but didn't. This should give you an idea of the rules. I can't recall how long it took before it opened up, but I'm guessing it will be maybe 1-2 months before? I checked and it's not there for WDW marathon weekend yet.

As far as I recall, you must defer to the same weekend. And you don't get a refund, your fees (minus the processing fee) are applied to the race you defer to.

From the runDisney.com website, under the registration tab for Avengers weekend:

Deferral Policy & Request Process

  • Deferral requests are on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to capacity limits.
  • Once deferral capacities are full, no further deferrals can be taken and no exceptions can be made.
  • Deferrals are not available for the Avengers Super Heroes 5K or runDisney Kids Races, or any other race weekend purchases.
  • Ancillary Events and/or Commemorative Items cannot be refunded if you Defer.
  • If you are currently registered for the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon, Infinity Gauntlet Challenge, or Captain America 10K in 2015 you may apply to defer your registration. Deferral requests will close on November 11, 2015, or sooner depending on deferral capacity, as some categories may fill sooner than others.
  • Deferral requests will be assessed a $55 processing fee.
  • Request a Deferral.

UGH. I'm so sorry.

Ugh. Don't even get me started about this. :(

I ran a 10K on Sunday. There was also a kids fun run, a walk, and a 5k. I finished the 10K in around 1:03 (a minute faster than my last 10K race!) but of course things were pretty picked over by the time I got to the food area with all the people who had finished the shorter events. There was no chocolate milk left. There was nothing with any protein in it. Spectators were clearly eating food. I really need to do a better job of packing my own post-race food. When my sister finished there was no one handing out water at the finish line. Not cool.

i'm marking today as my official start date of training. As you can see I have run this race and it is really not an issue of finishing unless I get sick or hurt. Anyway a very rainy morning so I headed to the gym, the card reader wasn't working, but ok as some one let me in. I did seven mile on the wonderful treadmill. Now decisions, decisions..do I just finish or work for a good time. Only time will tell.
