Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

So jealous!!! I know all y'all will do great!

I have my first big "official" run at the end of the month, so that's what I'm focusing on. We're doing the Rock 'N' Roll 10K in New Orleans - so that will be my time submission for Disneyland registration. Eek! I'm kinda nervous already ... :scared:

At least we've got another one on the books for the end of February, before Wine & Dine registration.

Good luck everyone!!

For my first 10k I took to heart the advice of other runners, crossing the starting line you'll want to take off like a bat out of hell. Don't do that. Stick to the plan. Keep to your pace and finish strong. No matter when you get to the finish line it will be a Personal Best!

Thanks, SgtTibbs! I'll definitely remember that!

I actually had my best six mile run of training last weekend - my family was in NYC for Christmas, so on Christmas Day, I ran from our hotel, through Central Park and back. So exhilarating! I finished with my fastest six miles since I started training, so I'm hoping that the experience of running a new route in a different city will give me another boost. But on top of that, I felt strong, confident and happy with my run. That's the best feeling, something I've never really felt before when I've worked out.

My plan is to give myself until the end of April to get the best official 10K time I can do to keep myself out of the last corral, and then start conditioning myself for the half. It gets pretty hot here during the summer (like, surface of the sun hot), so I'll have to commit to a lot of treadmill running ... that's going to be another mental hurdle, for sure.

That's my plan too. I figure at this stage of training it will be easier to train for a fast 10k than a fast half. We're in the height of summer here at the moment, over 100 degrees today, windy, and severe bushfire risk :crazy2: Hoping it's not too hot for my 10k next weekend! My mental hurdle for the half will be training when it's cold and wet out, then acclimatising to the hot weather in Anaheim for the actual run after training in the cold for 6 months :rotfl:

If you're already doing 6 miles, you should do great at your 10k at the end of the month!

Good luck to everyone doing the WDW marathon weekend! Keep us updated on your C2C progress :thumbsup2

That sounds a lot like our summers here in Texas! 100 degrees, windy, brushfires. Ugh. Not looking forward to that this time around!

Had another great 10K training run - I'm only 3 minutes off my target for RnR NOLA! Yay! Worst part is that the weather has turned stone cold, so my training will be on a severe incline treadmill we have here at the house. Ugh.

Thinking of all of y'all heading out to warm and sunny Orlando for the Marathon this weekend! My Dad keeps taunting me with the weather from his house! I know it's probably warmer than you'd like - but I know everyone will do great!

Thanks!

My body wasn't really loving me today, but that's good - it gives me time to figure out what the problem is. Hopefully with the treadmill work, I can get back on a true routine.

I also discovered I REALLY need to incorporate a good stretching routine into my training. Any tips?

I have a pretty well established stretching routine from back in the days before my leg condition was diagnosed. It's kinda hard to explain the actual stretches though without being able to sketch a little stick man :rotfl:

I start with my arms and shoulders, then move to my chest and back, through the glutes and quads, then down to the calves and IT band (I know the IT band isn't really a muscle and therefore doesn't really respond to stretching, but to me it always feels better after a stretch). Then I get down on the ground to do my hips. I hold each stretch for 20 seconds, both sides.

I've always been told to stretch after, not before, my run. Makes sense to me - that's when your muscles are warm and flexible. I use it as part of my cooling down routine. I usually walk for a couple of minutes back home, grab a small glass of water, then start my stretches. Then I'll have a shower, then I used to ice my legs. Now I only bother with ice after a particularly long or hard run, or if my legs are feeling particularly sore.

My parents got me one of those self-massage things called 'the stick' for Christmas, so I'm now figuring out how and when to add that to my routine too!

I probably overdo it with my recovery routine, but it stems from having an undiagnosed condition that I was trying to nurse along. Then when it finally did get diagnosed and I had the surgery to fix it, I really had to nurse my legs along for a while - at least 20 minutes of icing and self massage daily. Now that I'm fully recovered, I'm starting to learn to ease off a little :rotfl:

That sounds like you've got a great plan that really works for you! I need to get on that. A good friend of mine teaches yoga, but she doesn't really specialize in "restorative" yoga, so I'm hoping she can help me find a class/routine in that direction that helps.

It's starting to get bitter cold out here, so I reacquainted myself with my permanent incline treadmill today. Man, that really sucked ...

Hi all
I think I read somewhere that annual pass holders can sign up early for the various races over the weekend? Is this correct?

If so, how long before 10 Feb will that be? Do they send an email? How do they know you are annual pass holder and want to sign up?

Hope this makes sense - because I'm a little confused.

Thanks

About a week before, normally. You log in to My Disney Experience, go to the Annual Passholder area of the site and there should be a link under "Special Events and Offers" (or something like that).

I just got my first AP for WDW. Is it possible to register early for the DL races if your AP is just for WDW?

Thanks so much for your help. One last question is it easy to register your children? Can you do it all as one registration or do you have to do separate? Thanks again
Do you mean for the kids races, or for the 5K/10K/half?

If it's the kids races, I think it has to be separate. If. You sign yourself up for one race (let's say the 5K) I'm pretty sure there's a "register someone else" option. Can't answer for sure though as 1. I don't have any kiddos and 2. It's been awhile since I've registered another person for a race with me. :)

Hope everyone who ran during the WDW Marathon weekend had a great time and a great race! Can't wait to hear stories!

Hi all! We're a little late to the party, but we'll be heading out to the DL 1/2 for the DDD and coast to coast. We'll run the Princess Half next month as the 1st leg. It'll be our 1st 1/2 but will be our 8th rD event. Adding on the Castaway Cay challenge to the PHM as well.

I'm sure I'll be hitting up the seasoned vets when planning our hotels.

Welcome to the party!

I recommend you start planning your hotel now, as they tend to fill up quite quickly once registration opens.

If the Disney hotels are out of your budget, the closest hotels to the race precinct are the ones on Ball between Walnut and the freeway, the ones on Katella at the end of West, and the ones on Harbor just across from the main entrance (these ones are definitely closest to the parks).

We stayed at Desert Inn & Suites last year. It was about a 15 minute walk to the expo at the Disneyland Hotel, and 20 minutes to the corrals. You walk through the entrance plaza for the parks, so every time you go to the DLH or DTD you have to do bag check (except on the way to the actual race when they're not doing bag check yet). Only 5 minutes to the parks though. It was basic, but we were on a pretty strict budget and it suited us fine.

This year, we've booked a vacation condo just off Walnut opposite Magic Way. We're looking forward to being on the same side of the block as all the running events this time and not having to deal with bag check all the time!
