Looking for some training advice. I had to move up Galloway training plan by one week due to my work schedule. So, this weekend I did what would have theoretically been my last back-to-back long run session before race weekend. I did 4.25 miles on Friday, and then only made it through 10 miles yesterday when my plan had been for 12 miles.
Unfortunately I recently moved to a very hot area of the country, and I'm still adjusting to the extreme heat. To top that all off, I have always tended towards overheating/heat stroke, so getting out early in the morning for these last few long run-walk sessions has been essential for me. Right now, the "coolest" temps of the day are 80-82 degrees at sunrise. Yesterday, because I had to do more walking than running in this heat, it was about 90 degrees by the time I reached 10 miles yesterday. My legs felt good, but I was starting to get a heat-induced migraine so I cut it short. Despite my best efforts at consistently hydrating, I still have trouble running when the temps get to the high 80s/low 90s.
My question: I'm wondering if I should try for one more long run-walk session next weekend. It's supposed to be a tiny bit cooler next weekend (likely 78 degrees at sunrise), and I'm thinking it'd be nice to get in at least a 12 miler since my last half marathon was back in April. I'm just not sure if that'd be too much to do two longer training sessions on back-to-back weekends.
Obviously I'll play this by ear based on how my body is feeling throughout the week, but I'd love to hear some thoughts from the more experienced runners out there. I'm doing Dumbo Double Dare, which will be my first challenge race and my 6th half marathon since I started run-walking about a year and a half ago. Thanks!
