Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

I'm bringing a throw away sweatshirt to both races. When I moved and cleaned out my house, I saved old sweatshirts specifically for this, so now I need to get rid of them! I thought I heard that Disney donates them, is that true?

I am packing garbage bags, but other than that I refuse to even entertain the thought that it could rain. If I just ignore it, maybe it will go away...right? Lol

I'm starting to gather up all my stuff to pack and was wondering if we have a consensus on whether or not "throw away clothes" will be needed before the start of the full marathon on Sunday? I'm trying to pack as light as possible--so I'm thinking of not packing a throw away jacket...but what are you all doing?
I'm going with a throw away long sleeve shirt, throw away hat, and my trusty fleece blankie to sit on.

Or I might go with throw away arm warmers (girl's knee high socks with the toes cut out) instead of the t-shirt.

Hello everyone, This is my first post in nearly a year. I am a total beginner and will be participating in the half marathon. I had been training much more actively in the summer but have come down with numerous colds and flus over the past 2 months which has put quite a damper on the training I was doing. Since I've gotten set back on the training I am wondering if anyone else has half speed walked/ half jogged a half marathon before. That seems like it may be my best bet as today I am laid up in bed with another cold :/. Any advice would be much appreciated. Also, as I said I am a beginner. The longest I've ever ran competitively was a 10K. So, if anyone has any additional advice for running a half marathon please, any would be appreciated!

I am sorry to hear you have had a hard time! Just go and do what you can and decide to enjoy the day no matter what happens. Decide you'll be proud of whatever you will be able to do, smile, and see the sights. Check the Galloway information on the run-walk-run. That may be the way to go!

Thanks for all the responses to my "throw away clothes" question. :)

I have a few disposable ponchos that I will be bringing with me to the start--hopefully that will be warm enough.

I'm having a hard time trying to pack light with this weather--it will be cold(ish) on my first day (Friday) then warm and stormy on Sunday/Monday...

I plan to walk all of the races with little jogging spurts here and there to keep my pace low enough. If the pain gets to a point where I have to limp, I will stop. Unless that happens during the marathon, in which case I will limp as far as I can go ;)

I'm right there with you...sprained my ankle during training and haven't been the same since. I'm staring in corral N will fast walk most of it with running spurts along the way. Just wanting to finish. Good luck!!

I am only going to bring a large garbage bag for pre race. Once the run starts what ever happens happens.

And to throw humor into the waiting for this weekend :lmao::lmao::lmao:

So I started packing and put the outfit I'm going to wear for the marathon in my suitcase...and suddenly the whole thing just got very very real. Ahhhhh Sunday can't come fast enough!

I am bringing two clear ponchos that we got from Wal Mart or Walgreeens.
They are folded into a small box (smaller than a deck of cards) and cost about $1.50 each. Easy to carry, wear and replace.

We are flying to Orlando and taking Magical Express to our hotel. No car all week. Question for you experts.........

Where would be a good place to find a 12 or 24 pack of water to keep in the room. Nice to have a bottle for the bus ride to the start corrals. Does Downtown Disney have a store or convenience store? Would hate to have to shell out $2 or $3 per bottle per person several times a day.

I know there a grocery service that delivers, I think it's called Garden Grocer (could be very wrong) I have no idea about prices but it's gotta be cheaper than buying by the bottle. I have also heard of people buying online from Amazon market or I think even Walmart and having it sent to the resort. I'm sure someone will chime in with more useful info for you!

I believe you can get it at Hess (gas station market) if you don't mind lugging it a little ways. It is across the street from Downtown Disney. I think it is across the parking lot from the World of Disney Store. There is also one at the Car Care Center but I am not sure if there is a regular shuttle that goes there or if they only pick up/drop off people renting cars.

There is also one by the Boardwalk.

I've seen someone suggest on here to bring a rolling duffle or luggage to the Hess station at BW or DTD. Or maybe a couple backpacks and split the case up?

I usually watch WESH 2 news when in Orlando, over the last two days I added their weather forecasts to all the other ones I've been checking compulsively and they've had the most consistently positive forecast of all the other ones.Right now they have Thu 60/42 0% chance of rain, Fri 69/46 10% chance of rain,Sat 72/44 0% chance of rain and Sun 74/56 10% chance of rain.I'm going to stop looking at the other ones and only focus on their forecast.

This makes me happy.
I packed a throw away sweatshirt for Sat morning. Mid 40's is pretty cold when you are standing around for an hour and a half waiting to run.

Amen to that. We don't fly down till Friday evening. Right now I think I'm going to be on edge until we get to orlando and I pick my packet up. Then I can start worrying about the races. My wife and I are celebrating our 17 year wedding anniversary too while we are down there, so I'm also looking forward to the 3 surprise dates I've got planned for us.

this is a frequent topic of discussion in the DVC community. Two companies are consistently recommended for grocery delivery. WeGoShop and GardenGrocer. Both of them will deliver things to your room. I believe that you can also order stuff from Amazon and have it shipped to your resort. If you have amazon Prime this may be the way to go.

I mean weather prediction is just a guessing game anyways, so you might as well go with the one that you like best! :)
