Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

My last long run is done too! I only did 18 miles, I was hoping to get to 20 but I've made huge steps in injury recovery in the last month (4 weeks ago, I couldn't run 3 miles on my injured foot), so I am thrilled with that. Just a 14 next weekend and an 8 the following Sunday, with some short mid week runs in between but the worst is over!

I don't remember hearing anything about early sweeping at the '14 Half.

I remember hearing about the 10k mess at the Disneyland event last year, some weird sweeping situation, but not about anything at wdw.
Yes, I believe that was at Tinkerbell. I was there for the half, but didn't run the 10k.

Glad the run went well, something that just feels good getting past 20 miles!

I liked the pint glasses and the RunDisney Magic Bands, but none of the clothing really did it for me either.

Forgot about the magic bands in the preview - LOVE those!

Wow - that's wonderful! 18 miles after an injury like that is really incredible and you must be so relieved!

The worst is definitely over!!!

That's amazing, 18 miles after a miracle recovery :cool1:

Stay healthy and enjoy these last few weeks!

Good luck with your BQ!

I finished my last 20 miler this morning and celebrated with a 2-2-2 breakfast at Chuck's Restaurant (2 sausage, 2 bacon, 2 eggs, 2 pancakes and home fries). Being a 180 lb runner I burn close to 3000 calories on these long runs. Very happy I made it through the high mileage training without injury... now to make it to Jan 11 without getting sick.

I like the merchandise, especially the gray tech shirt, I'm sure I will pick up one of those.

Thanks, and way to get those miles in yourself! Even though it's 2:30 in the afternoon, you have me craving second breakfast ;)

Fingers and thumbs is as far as I can go lap counting, ::yes::, so I'll be using my Garmin to click off the laps.

One thing I have done to count when I have lots of laps is bring a handful of small Legos in my water belt. I move them from one pocket to the other as I do the laps. Even counting is too much math for me when I am running. I think very little oxygen must make it to my brain, because I can barely think on a run.

That sounds amazing!

I did 21 yesterday. Felt better than I ever have. I think I'm ready for Dopey so I now I'm just going to keep it light the next three weeks and try to avoid injury.

Congrats to everyone who finished their long one. So close now!

Dang it.

My 20 miler turned into a 17-miler. It was just too flippin' cold here. At 15, my gloves were wet from sweat and I didn't bring another pair - I would've paid $100 for a pair of warm, dry, wool gloves at that time. As time progressed, my hands became like ice and it kind of concerned me. I always hear to pay attention to your extremities first. My sweaty head and knit cap were close almost as bad.

I had 4 layers on my lower body and my thighs never actually warmed up. I should be thankful that the wind was tame (it is almost always worse) but I just could not take it any longer. I had to put my Clif shots into my gloves a mile ahead of time in order for them to thaw - otherwise it was like eating those Clif blocks!

Plus, I did another big no-no - I took a 30 minute scalding hot shower. Forget the ice bath - I needed to get warm pronto. That was quite a miserable run.

I'm glad with the fact that the actual run was good - could've been better - but I'll take it.

I need to move to a warmer climate!

I've been doing my regular runs on a treadmill but the most I can do on that is about 10 before I'm ready to hang myself out of boredom. The joys of the north!

I hope everybody else's long run went better!

I really think your body gives you combat points for runs like that. Those conditions easily equal three more miles in my book! Hope you have warmed up. I would have taken a hot shower too. Last week I had myself all talked into an ice bath, but I was shaking with cold so badly by the time I got home I chickened out!

Thanks for those sentiments, GBBT. We'll see if in 3 weeks!

The klutz that I am would result in Legos littering the ground or in this case, the deck of the Dream.

So how does that work? Obviously I haven't done much with my Garmin (10) and I figured the laps thing was just a mile.

I have a Garmin 910XT watch for triathlons so clicking off laps is not a problem.

First congrats on your DW's accomplishments... what a fun way to celebrate:cool1:
It is my understanding that the 16 min pace requirements start as soon as the LAST person in the LAST corral crosses the starting line. So, you will have a buffer over that 16 min/mi if you guys are not starting in the last corral. If you are in the last corral and worried about the pacing requirements, I would get to the corrals early and make your way to the front of the corral. Keep a 15 min/mi pace and skip any character stops with long lines until you feel you are well enough ahead of the back of the pack. Whatever you do, DO NOT GO OUT BLAZING! keep your training pace from the start and you will be fine! Have fun, no matter what! See you in a few weeks!

I've read the same about the time not starting until the last person crosses the START line. There's a blog somewhere around the internet that broke down the time line and gave a break down about timing. Good luck to you and DW! DH and I are running the Half for the first time, too! :)

Ice baths are no joy even if you're not freezing after the run. My routine is to throw on a fleece top to keep my upper body and core warm, and open a beer before I climb in. Once the beer is gone, it's time to get out. :thumbsup2

Got my last long run in on Saturday, 20 miles. my previous two long runs before that were 20 and 23. Both 20's felt alright (9:45 - 10:00 /mile pace). The 23 mile run felt awesome (about a 10:45 pace). But my goal was to hit 3 20-milers, and I did.

I am excited about the merchandise preview, more specifically the pint glasses, magic bands, and a few other little things. Will have to wait and see what is actually there when I get to the expo!

I've also heard of people using skittles or some other candy of the slow melting variety. Bring one skittle or jelly bean per lap, eat one each time, and when you're done with the candy you're done with the run!

Got my 20 miler in on Saturday. I was going to wait until this week, but the weather was decent and I was feeling good so I went for it. I'll probably do 13-15 this weekend, but we'll see how exhausting the holidays are. Congrats to everyone on getting those miles in!

First of all, congrats on getting in three 20-milers, that has to make you feel great going into your race!

Second...I am becoming increasingly pessimistic about my odds of securing a runDisney Magic Band and pint glass at the expo. We aren't flying in until Friday, so won't hit the expo until Friday afternoon. Seems everyone's digging the same items that were in the preview!

I have the 220. I think the default lap setting is 1-mile, but I'm pretty sure you can change that. However, if you hit the "lap" button on the side, it will start over the lap from wherever you are. I have done that accidentally and it drives me nuts! :furious: I have to wait until the next mile then hit "lap" again to set it straight, but then my laps to miles ratio is off and I get confused lol.

Dang it.

I don't take ice baths and I only ice if my knee is bothering me, which is rarely these days. I just don't find it helps me and I always think I suffered for no reason. After my runs, I stretch and roll a little then immediately jump in a hot shower. Sometimes later in the day I will sit in the hot tub for a while. I'm rarely sore the next day :)

My mock Dopey is complete! The last 5 miles of my 20-miler were a little dicey with some surprise foot pain, but I got it done! Taper time!!

And since we're talking about ice baths...in my case I made it about 6 minutes before I had to quit mine. It took me all day to warm up due to that ice bath and temperatures in the upper 20s during my run. I'm just so glad the snow and ice held off, because...the cold never bothered me anyway. :) Please don't hurt me for making a Frozen reference.

And now...the taper madness has begun. I had my first (but not the last, I'm sure) Marathon Weekend nightmare last night. I dreamed that I arrived at the marathon starting line with absolutely nothing that I needed for the race - no sunglasses, no Garmin, no fuel, and I was wearing Crocs instead of my running shoes. I'd managed to dress myself in running clothes, so A+ to me for that, but otherwise...nothing. :confused3

I must have also dreamed that I got swept during the marathon because I found myself awake at about 3AM thinking about that a lot. Boooo!!!

Oh ya, the marathon dreams have already started for me too. Woke up at 4am Sunday morning and couldn't get back to sleep :(
