Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

Who else is joining me at the back of the bus in Corral O? Feeling a little discouraged by that. But considering I walked the second half of my qualifying run with an injury I guess I can't complain too much. Being my first Full, I was hoping I would get a little more buffer room just in case. My normal 1/2 time is about 2:20ish but with my injury my qualifying time was 3:08.

I'm in corral N... bringing up the rear. I agree with wanting a buffer, this is my first full and coming off an injury too, my qualifying time was 2:39

They weren't last year as you can see from my picture.

Hey, I know you
(It's Ben from DL)

Hay is in the barn pep talk is the best. Makes me sad too.
It's not quite in the barn yet. Most of us still have our peak runs in the next two weeks. Getting close though. The main focus for your last few long runs should be practicing your fueling and hydration like it's race day.

It's approaching the barn. ;)

If all goes well, a week from Saturday it'll be in the barn for me. :)

So tell me about the Cool Down Party at Downtown Disney. What is it exactly? Would you recommend going? What time do the festivities happen?

I am one with big runs these next 2 weeks. I have mastered my fuel and hydration and have been feeling great after my runs. So happy about that. I am however looking for a hydration belt that fits the iPhone 6plus. Where I run has water stops every 2 miles so I haven't needed it and been using a flip belt which works but ... Egh not my favorite. Has anyone come across anything yet that fits the 6 plus? I definitely want to carry water/Nuun during the full, just in case.

We have our last long ones this weekend. 10 on Sat and 20 on Sun. Moved it up a week because of a very favorable weather forecast for this weekend. Last year we had to do our 20 miler on a treadmill because of ice and snow. We don't want to take any chances this year.

Thanks for all the running pants suggestions!

Now watch, I'll buy a pair, and it'll be 70 degrees at 5am on race day, and I won't need them.

Is that a roundabout way of saying that I look like a red, sweaty mess in that picture?! ;) :rotfl2: Before I posted it I was like, "...should I? I look gross. Eh, whatever!"

Seriously though, it was sooooo humid. You could see the moisture collecting on the mile markers. :crazy2:

Haha, sorry I did not mean to imply you looked gross! Just hot!

My peak weekend isn't until next week, so I still have 8 runs to get through before tapering :crazy2:. This weekend was supposed to be relatively easy (just 1 13-miler) but I was lazy this week and skipped 2 runs, so I am making them up by running 4 days in a row :sad2:

So, is it time to start a prayer dance to the Disney weather tiki gods to keep it nice and cool that morning? :goodvibes

:dance3: <- weather prayer dance for 40-55 degree weather!

I'm not bringing anything but shorts and t-shirts, so maybe we'll cancel each other out. :)

If you felt like changing what you run in, if you are female, if you are willing to pay for quick shipping, I would tell you that the side leg pocket in the Sweet Spot running pants I linked to the other day will hold a 6. Saw it with my own eyes. And they said it would hold a plus. I assume their running short would do the same in its side pocket.

But it's a bit late now to change that sort of thing. :)

saw that. I might try to see if a pair can get here in the next week or so to try on a longish run. They didn't describe the material, crotch if its gusseted or not or seams so I'm a little nervous about them.

I'm not sure about all those things, but my friend is pretty picky about running pants (she hates the ones I bought from REI) and she really liked them. But...what works for some random friend of a random internet person might not work for you. :) You could call them, though. They are based out of WA state so I assume they keep pacific time hours. That's useful for people on the east coast!

Does anyone know if Southwest allows massage sticks in carry on luggage? I wanted to take mine with me, but I'm not checking luggage. Didn't want to have it confiscated by security, but I guess I could also call the airline if others didn't know.

Southwest has allowed 'the stick' sticking out of my carry-on slightly, on four separate occasions.

Well, I just did my 26 mile training run! It's the most I've ever done. All I have to say is HOLY *(&@ THAT WAS HARD!!! Lol!!! :lmao:

Still, I'm proud I did it. And that I'm still functional after it. :goodvibes

Question, though. Does anyone know if "total climb" (Runkeeper thing) is the same as what they post as "gain" in Mapmyrun for the Disney Marathon? I found online that it's "Gain 120 ft" from a Mapmyrun map, but not sure if that's the same as that total climb thing.

I'm really hoping it's the same thing, because if it is, the Disney Marathon should be a lot less painful than the run from this morning with it's 1,463 total climb! :crazy2:

Thanks!!

Yup, you've got it! You will only be climbing a total of about 120 feet over 26.2 miles, which means it is basically pancake flat. The only hills are the highway on ramps.
The 1463 from your run today is the total of all the inclines you ran...nice job :thumbsup2

That's awesome! Congrats!!

I just did 11.1 (longest distance I've ever done). Feeling pretty good & very excited for the half!
