Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

I am glad this is there. Hopefully runDisney will actually put people in the correct corrals.

Me too, on both counts. I'll be curious to see what, if anything, they change from last year.

Not sure about everyone else but all of the information that I sent to them is squished into the "Race Name" field - the name, date, and time from my race. So I guess I'd better correct that.

I just "fixed" mine - moved stuff to the proper boxes and filled in the drop-down, but didn't change the time - and it ADDED 3 minutes to my anticipated finish time! ARG! That may actually drop me back one corral (was 4:28, now 4:31...so if 4:30 is where they cut if off I may be out of luck).

Oh well...that would only make, like, a 2- or 3-minute difference in my starting times so I'm not sure it's worth sending an email over. :confused3

Mine changed by a minute as well... 4:35 to 4:36. Not sure how that will affect anything.

Hi everyone! LONG time lurker, posting now because my husband and I are training for our first marathon :wave2:
I have a couple quick questions for you about race day.

First, transportation....I was all proud of myself because I booked BC (first time ever - super pumped!!), thinking we'd be able to walk to/from the race. HA. Did not think that through...of course the International Gateway won't be open that early. So my question - we will have our own car. Any thoughts on taking our car to the race rather than relying on the buses? (We only have 4-day military tickets and aren't planning on burning a park day on marathon day. Although I might be willing to just for a baguette from France...) I was thinking that might be less stressful than trying to get on a bus, but am not sure if road blocks will be more frustrating?

Second, how early would you be comfortable making an ADR after the full? I know it depends on our corral placement, so just a really general idea would be fantastic. (Our pace for the marathon will probably be around 9:30-9:45)

Thank you all so much! We're so excited!! (Granted, more about the post-run eating than the actual running... :rolleyes1 )

I've found the buses to be much less stressful than a car. They run frequently and help you avoid managing the traffic restrictions.

The ADR will depend on your start time (6 AM probably) as much as your race time (4:20 ish). I would say you should be safe with something as early as Noon. Although, we made ours for 1 because you never know what can happen on race day (and we're doing the Dopey).

I took the buses from BC in 2012 and they were fine. My concern with the car would be not knowing which roads are closed as part of the course. Not sure about the ADR times...I'm way slower than you and your husband are. :p

Hello All! This is my first time going down to Disney during Marathon weekend and I was curious how busy the hotels were around Epcot? I was thinking about staying at Yacht Club, but it looks like the majority of hotels are already full for this weekend in January. Opinions? I currently have a reservation at Fort Wilderness, but was thinking of switching to Yacht club when room only discounts come out (if available).

Thanks in advance!

I am staying at the Swan. It is in the Epcot resort area. It is not operated by Disney tho. But its in a fine location in the Epcot resorts area and walk around the lake to the Yacht Club. It is also a better price than the Disney hotels such as Yacht and Beach club. There is also the Dolphin.
I know those two hotels (S/D) offered better rates if you pre paid it...or use AAA.
I have always stayed in the Dolphin but this January I am trying out the Swan.

Now, they don't have buses that transport you from and back to the airport...you have to book your own transport and you can do that thru Meers. Or rent a car (I wouldn't rent)

They do have buses just like every other hotel that takes you to and from the expo all day long and the races....no problems there.

Anyone remember what the corral breakdowns were last year? I went from 5:15 to 5:09. Not sure if that makes any diffrence

I don't think they release the predicted finish times with each corral. Other than people coming here and giving their corral with expected finish, there's no concrete way of knowing where the splits were. Honestly, Disney races are so packed, that one corral forward or back will hardly make a difference unless you're sub 3:30.

This seems to be the new normal - it did that to me for both TOT and W&D, only way more than a minute. Oh well - I'm not in it to race hard, anyway, so it doesn't much matter where I start.

I drove to the PHM 5K and 10K last year, from CBR - it literally took me 10 mins from walking out my door to being parked in a space at EP. Leave early and there aren't any roadblocks or traffic to worry about. I bused to the PHM 1/2 and wished I'd take my car - too many stops on the bus.

I stayed at YC for marathon weekend this year... took the bus to the half. It was fine, no long waits or anything, but it does make multiple stops (BC, YC, BW, Swan, Dolphin), so a car may have been faster.

Here they are. I'm curious to see what they tweak, though, since based on what other runners who were there last year are saying it sounds like there is some room for improvement:

I was mostly annoyed when my time got adjusted because looking at the Dopey corrals, it looks like 4:30 is the line between H and I. So with a 4:28 I would have been in H, but the adjustment pushes me into I. Of course that's assuming the corrals will be the same this year as last year, which again, I'm assuming they won't be. Plus, with the new corralling system the difference between starting in one corral vs. the next one is waiting an extra 2-3 minutes, so it's not a huge deal.

Oh. Well hmm...I had this theory that maybe they added time for me since I'm signed up for Dopey, so I thought maybe they were compensating for my having run the other races in the upcoming days. Hmm...there goes that theory. :upsidedow

Has anyone else tried to update their proof of time and had the system not be able to find them? I am registered for Goofy, if that makes a difference...

Double-check your registration confirmation and make sure you didn't typo your name or birthday. My brother added another letter to his name on year and the system didn't find him (his waiver, in that case) until we entered in the typo'd version of his name. :goodvibes

It looks I will be stuck in K again this year if nothing changes! I really don't care, it would just make me feel like I have improved :thumbsup2 To be honest, I doubt I will finish anywhere near my predicted time since I pushed pretty friggin hard for that 2:23 half marathon time the 5:09 is based off of.

Good call-that was the problem! My birthday was off by one day...not even sure how I managed to do that (especially since 29 and 30 are two completely different numbers....) Well at least I can find it....is this something I should try to correct? Will it be a problem for packet pick up or anything?

Welp. Shows what I know! There they are.
