OFFICIAL 2014 WDW Marathon Countdown: WE DID IT! Congrats everyone!

Finished week three of training. So far so good although I am having a bit of knee pain again. I might have to take a day off once in a while.

Waited till today for dining but still got all we wanted with reasonable times ;-). Just need to book airfare now (still playing airline roulette, waiting for prices to drop). Oh, and then there is the training for my 1st marathon ;-)

Got all of my dining reservations this morning as well. I was nervous about getting BOG, but I did!

At my 180 for ToT in October I couldn't get BOG. I booked on Friday which was my 180 + and made reservations for 3 nights for marathon week.

This will be my first full marathon. I always said I never wanted to run a marathon, but added the disclaimer that, just maybe, if I did, it would be the WDW Marathon. So there...I'm glad I stuck that in there.

Flights are all booked so it's becoming much more real for me!

My wife and I did last year's ToT and enjoyed it, despite the heat. I am doing a couple of half marathons this year as part of my training for WDW. I need that to stay motivated on these humid days...

How's training for everyone going?

Training was moving along quite nicely for both dh and I. Then he got pneumonia and I got a bit of crud too. Not a lot of fun to run while the nuclear waste seems to be coming up from your lungs... but so far I haven't missed any days. I have cut a couple runs short though... Thursday I did 4 rather than 6. Then on saturday I was already scheduled to do a 5k color run. Normally I would have gone 8.5 total and had I not been sick my plan was to do an additional 5 to 6 either later that day or on sunday. :sad2: Yeah, that didn't happen. I still count it as not missing a day though since I did do something Did my normal distance today... and then ended up going for a 3 mile hike tonight so maybe I am not too much in the hole overall.

So excited! I just booked my room at AoA for Marathon Weekend!!! :)

We are booked there for the weekend too!

People often ask me if I will continue on and do a full marathon. I always say no because the commitment is so much more than I am ready for. ...but in the back of my mind I always think "unless it is a Disney marathon";)

I don't say no, but maybe. And that same thought keeps floating around up there...:goodvibes

We also got our ADRs over the weekend.
Thurday: Via Napoli
Friday: Le Cellier
Saturday: Kona Cafe
Sunday: Be Our Guest

My husband and I are both running the 10k and then I'm running the full marathon on Sunday.
We are also booked for our 1st DVC stay at BLT in a lake-view studio. VGF is our new home resort but we couldn't get a studio for Marathon Weekend.

Canceling a Be Our Guest ADR for 1/12 @ 6:50 now if anyone was looking to get in, party of 2. We moved ours to Monday.

How's training for everyone going?[/QUOTE]

Into the third week of training - even though I've run several half marathons I elected to go Galloway for the full thinking its the only way I can make it through the whole thing. Using the beginner experienced, but increased the weekly runs to 45min instead of 30.

First time using Galloway and still figuring out intervals, right now doing 2:1 @ ~12:30 mile, hoping I can speed up to at least 3 or 4:1. We'll see as the distances get longer!

I'm finally back to training and trying to get a good base built before actual training starts in September. I've been out the past two months due to ITBS.

Welcome to the "I Hate My ITB's And See No Useful Purpose For Them" Club! :lmao:

Read this while at chiro for itbs. Lol. Mmm my body is loving this!!

And that is why I'm there every Monday along with seeing the massage therapist. Good results so far and remaining cautiously optimistic. I haven't used my new TENS unit yet, but hoping that will help as well. ::yes::

And that dang bursa that gets inflamed. Can I at least have that removed? I don't know the point of those either.

Thinking there's a number of parts I could do without...fat thighs, tricep wingspans, belly blob, etc, etc, etc....:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Oh, ITBS - how I know that pain! :headache: Hang in there, folks who are are dealing with it - after 6 months of therapy at home and with my chiro, I'm finally back to where I'd been pre-ITBS with no more pain (knock on wood)! :thumbsup2 It really can be overcome.

I did 1.25 miles yesterday and it's feeling OK. If there's a good thing about slow building right now, it helps me get back into shape. After two months of next to no cardio, I'm a wee bit out of shape.

So there is hope??? I swear if I ever go back to that level of pain during a run again, I'm just taking myself out. At the knees. :faint:

Okay, indulge my "totally off-topic-ness" for the moment. How the heck do you get more than one ticker in your signature without it getting cut off? I just can't seem to make it work.

So there is hope???

::yes:: There really is! I swear, I don't even like thinking it, let alone typing it - and I absolutely WON'T utter it out loud! - but I'm now up to 9 miles with no pain. I truly couldn't even imagine that a few months ago.

I will say that I have to stay on top of things, though. Foam roll and targeted stretching twice a day, every day, whether I run or not. Targeted strength training every week, usually twice a week. Sitting too long (hello, desk job...) aggravates my gluteus medius, which makes my ITB think about getting tight, so I get up often, take the long route to the ladies room, and stretch throughout my work day. And gawdforbidamilliontimes should I even glance at at a pair of running shoes other than my PureFlows or Mizuno Cursoris. :rotfl:

I got two in there by making a space between them instead of a hard return. The third is a mess, lol! It's too tall to fit, I think. I may get around to trying to fix it... or just leave it until the TOT one falls off.
