Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

as much as you don't want to, get out and walk around a park after the race. My normal disneyland or world half routine is finish, go back and clean up, ice, sit around for about 30 minutes then go walk around. You will feel so much better the next day. If I don't get out and move I will lock up and look like Frankenstein.....

Thanks! That's a good point. I asked the question on another board and someone also said that it's usually less crowded the day of the race than the days leading up to the race since everyone leaves that day. I'm not sure if that will be true with Tink, since Monday is a holiday. I will be driving to Santa Barbara at some point that day, so it probably would be a much better idea for me to walk around all day rather than get in the car right away for a 3 hour drive! LOL Frankenstein! :rotfl2:

That was definitely not true last year. Last year, the day of the race, the park was more crowded than I had seen it in years. Super long lines, insane crowds. I think it's just going to be that way all weekend since it's a holiday weekend. Going to the parks and walking around would be better than sitting all day, though, so I would still recommend going.

What do most people do about going to the parks?
We plan on doing Disneyland on the 17th, then my son is doing the kid's race on the 18th, then of course Tink is the 19th. We want to do California Adventure on either the 18th (where we'd start late, given the kid's race) or 19th (where I might be exhausted). Is it better to go the day before the race or the day of the race? We've been to both parks, so it's not like we're plugging through trying to do it all. And, it's CA, so it's not a whole lot of walking. I know a lot of you have done it, so I'm curious what the experts prefer! lol

I think it depends on the person but I've benefited from staying off of my legs after a race actually. Weird I know. But after Dumbo I pretty much curled up in my hotel room for most of the day and figured I would hit the park the next day rather than push myself. And did just that. Then again I'm an AP holder and because of other stuff I'm in CA more often than just for the races. So not going to the parks right before or after the race wasn't going to hurt.

Anyways if you are going to go in the park before or after grab something to keep track of your walking though. Just because your in at Disneyland doesn't mean you won't get quiet a bit of walking in. This is still Disney. Things are still located a distance from each other. And trust me when I say the miles add up quickly. Me and my trainer have an agreement that sometimes when I go over to Disney I don't run. Because I easily can get 4-5 miles of walking in, in just a half a day. Hell I can get two miles in a couple of hours if I try. Trust me when I say you don't want to be walking six miles before the half marathon. And your legs probably won't appreciate walking six miles after the race so if you go to the park after, take the shortest routes possible.

There are days when I've left the parks and I felt like I've done a long run because of all the walking I did. Particularly at Halloween this year, I think I got somewhere around 7 miles of walking? And then I followed that up with a lot of standing the next day. That was fun.

Anyways enough ranting. If I had to pick between the two I would go after.

Has anyone found the corral placements for the 10k?

I haven't seen anything, but then again I'm not in the 10k But I'm kind of curious also since I would like to be able to pass on some info to a friend about the corral placements. So she has an idea what to do when she registers for the DLH 10k to keep out of the last corral. But I can't until we know how the 10k corral placement works.

With the power of Pixie dust.......I'm TRYING to have a good attitude as I hobble around.

What corral are you in ??

I'm in C...and I'm very thankful that I'll have a bit of a head start on the sweepers! What about you?

Does anyone know where the sweepers are located for the 1/2?

At the back of the last corral they are the last people to start. But if your asking where you hit the all clear, that's mile 10. They stop sweeping there though you might still see the sweepers poking around every once a while after that if your towards the back of the pack. But they won't force you on the bus once you get past mile 10 unless you drop your pace extremely. If you can get through the 4 miles that separate the parks from mile 10 before the pacers get anywhere close to you then your clear. The Mile 10 all clear was my saving grace the last three Disneyland races because of medical issues and cramps.

Also a heads up after the Disneyland Half. Be on the look out either for orange flags or silver balloons. I know balloons or their normal. But they were using orange flags at the Disneyland half. And because I wasn't expecting the flags I didn't see them until they were right on top of me at Angel's Stadium (thankfully that's just outside of mile 10, so I hit the all clear right after).

Thanks! I haven't studied the 2 maps, but, isn't the Tinkerbell 1/2 course different from the Disneyland 1/2 course? On the Tinkerbell 1/2 course, it appears that you really won't be "safe" until almost Mile 12 when you re-enter the Parks.

I haven't run in Disneyland before, but, it seems to me that at WDW for the 1/2 Marathon, you know they will pull buses across the road outside the TTC, Grand Floridian, and about Mile 10 where you go up the ramp. Are there specific places along the Tinkerbell 1/2 Marathon course where you know they will pull buses across the road?

TIA

It is different. But the mile 10 is the same in both race. I dropped pace in both races once I hit mile 10 and was allowed to finish. I've had my fair share of problems with the last few Disney races. And missing three weeks of training is making me nervous here but I think I'm going to be okay. Anyways clear 10 and your set. I was just using the Angel's Stadium as a reference for the sweeper mistake. We run north once we exit the parks instead of east like the September race does.

As for the buses, I think they trail behind the runners but I'm not 100 percent sure about points they pull up along side for boarding. I've never really noticed them during the race so I don't think they pull up along side. Hell I had never seen them pull up along side before on my races on either coast before I ran Wine and Dine in November. I had only seen the buses the two times I had to board them (Princess 2013 and WDW Full 2012). So it might be a matter of me just not noticing them?

Also in C. My plan is to get in the corral early and stay near the side for my walking. How's your injury ?? Are you planning to walk by yourself ??

I've seen a map of the course, but does anyone know if the course is particularly "hilly?" Thanks!

Just under and overpasses. We start on an overpass and turn the corner and hit another one, then turn the corner again to another one. :goodvibes They're not bad, just for the freeways. And then when we go backstage to DCA after Mile 1/Mile 12 there's an underpass where the main crosswalk on Harbor to the parks is. We cross over the 5 after Mile 7, but I don't think it's an overpass. There's also a slight incline in DTD and a short downhill by paradise pier, but it's nothing major. Other than that, it's flat.

Question about men/bib numbers/corral assignments...

I know that men are not in the first corrals--so, no men in A or B--the first men's corral is C? Do men's bib numbers correspond correctly with this chart then? http://as1.wdpromedia.com/media/rundisney/pdf/tinkerbell/2014/2014CorralAssignmentsTink.pdf

The reason I ask is because a few men I know that are running it have bib numbers that would place them in corral B--yet everything I've seen says there should not be men in Corral B.

It concerns me only because my bib number is at the tail end of corral A (and I was SO excited about that!!!!), and now I'm a little worried that maybe that chart isn't 100% true--and I'm not really in corral A?

I am pretty sure I heard men were starting in B this year. Where did you see/read that they can only start in C?

A friend of mine who runs a lot of Disney races told me that...hmmm maybe my friend was wrong!

I know on the rundisney site it talks about men running and says " The only exception is the two first corrals which will be reserved for our elite and faster female runners." So I thought that meant the "elite corral" (first 20) and corral A--but my friend thought it meant corrals A and B---and that those first 20 elite wasn't really a "corral."

I see where the confusion is. The first coral is elite and technically A is the second corral. Elite only has about 20 runners though.
