Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

I see where the confusion is. The first coral is elite and technically A is the second corral. Elite only has about 20 runners though.

Ok :)
That's what I had figured, but when my friend told me that "A" and "B" were the first two corrals--plus from what I've read, in previous years the first corral for men was "C"...

Thanks!

Why only 20.... We have thousands in our corral and they get 20....just find it odd.
trust me you don't want to be any where near the elite group.... There are only 20 because, they are running 5 minute miles (or less). You will get your butt run over if you are by them! Also they are actually competing for money/prizes where the rest of us shmos are out there for fun!

Adding to what Kappyfamily said. The elites and racing wheelchairs are fast, really fast. Doing Dumbo last year when entering DCA from the backside around mile one about oh maybe 40 minutes or so after after they had started. We actually had to stop for a minute to let one come through since the chairs were on the return to DCA. Mind you don't hit DCA's backstretch the second time around until Mile 12 at the Disneyland Half! That's how fast that lot move through the course.

That's the only time I've ever seen a chair on course. Never run into an elite despite the sometimes intersecting course. But it gives you an idea on how fast they move. And why they keep the Elites and racing Chairs devision down to a limited amount. You have to be really fast and probably be a professional racer to make the Elite corral. I have no clue how the racing chairs work but considering how fast they move I would assume they must have some sort of strict qualifiers for their corral too.

Question about men/bib numbers/corral assignments...

I know that men are not in the first corrals--so, no men in A or B--the first men's corral is C? Do men's bib numbers correspond correctly with this chart then? http://as1.wdpromedia.com/media/rundisney/pdf/tinkerbell/2014/2014CorralAssignmentsTink.pdf

The reason I ask is because a few men I know that are running it have bib numbers that would place them in corral B--yet everything I've seen says there should not be men in Corral B.

It concerns me only because my bib number is at the tail end of corral A (and I was SO excited about that!!!!), and now I'm a little worried that maybe that chart isn't 100% true--and I'm not really in corral A?

Saw your concern about the bib number. As long as its listed as a number in Corral A you should be in it. I think. Unless their is something odd going on. Anyways my point is that it doesn't matter what number you were assigned as long as it falls under A you should be in A. And heck get there early enough and you won't be towards the back of the corral. Positioning in corral isn't determined by your number (way too many people to try to do that) but by who gets there first.

Just to clarify, from what I understand, they are going back to the way it was done in the original princess halfs. Men were in corral B and back. After what happened last year at Princess, I think they learned their lesson. I ran last year's princess, it wasn't pretty with men in C and a slower field. The front of C in that race was nearly composed of men, we quickly caught up to B, well before the half mile mark and with the tight road going towards World Dr, it was all the faster guys weaving through the crowds and I saw some people do some stupid stuff, both men and women. Men would be jumping side to side and saw some runners get bumped, surprised no one got hurt. I had to run on the side of the road/grassy area to get around. Saw women stop and try to get to other side of road to get photos. When I did princess when men were in B, none of this occurred and it was a safer race in general for all involved. So it seems that they are again putting men in B knowing that they will be in the front of B, essentially being a late corral A start.

Also in C. My plan is to get in the corral early and stay near the side for my walking. How's your injury ?? Are you planning to walk by yourself ??

My ankle actually feels pretty good but I am only doing 2 mile runs so far and now I'm having numbness in my foot after the 2 miles. Might try some new shoes before Tink and see if that helps.

My plan changes constantly. As of today my plan is to get to the corral on the later side and be in the back of it. Stick to the side since I'll be doing so much walking. I'll do my usual 1:1 intervals until we are in the parks. In the parks I'll go down to walk 3: run 1 intervals so I can soak up the park time and have some fun. After the parks I'll try to go back to the 1:1's for a mile or two and then I'll go back down to the walk 3/run 1 and try to finish that way. I dont know that my body will agree to that plan but I'm gonna give it a shot.

My plan for the 10K is going to be 3/1 the entire time. Maybe 1:1's if I need to make up time after photo stops.

Thanks! Yes, my number is within the A bracket listed on the site--it just worried me when a (male) friend told me his number (in the 3000s) but insisted that he would be in corral C because there are no men in A or B. :)

Thanks, for this perspective! :)

Although I am in A, most (if not all?) of the people I am running with are going to be in B, so I'll probably run in B anyway. It's good to know we won't have thousands of men trampling us from behind!;)

Numbness in your foot .....:( I hope it improves for you.

I wanted to try things out and finally got on the treadmill with a compression knee sleeve thing and was able to walk fast for about 15 without any problems so far. I did NOT want to over do it. But will try again tomorrow and really put some time & miles in. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Try an alternate lacing technique for foot numbness. A lot of time your forefoot is just too smushed. Something like this:

The final countdown really begins now. So excited!!! We leave in two weeks! Need to make the running tutus and get the packing list together. Is it reasonable to expect shorts during the day? Or should I pack long/crop pants?

Hooray for the two week countdown!
I hope I can get some help with airport transfers from y'all- I'm traveling into LAX and heading to Grand Californian. What's the best company to use? Shuttles? Sedans? Rental cars? What do you recommend?

I always do shared ride vans from Super Shuttle. They are the most affordable.

Thanks! I'm been looking at everyone's rates and the shuttles seem to be the best way to go- money saved on airport transportation is money to spend at the expo, right?!
I was looking on Mousesavers and saw two different shuttle companies- the Super Shuttle and the Disneyland Resort Express. Anyone have experience with either one? The Disneyland one is a few bucks more expensive, but I wouldn't mind paying a bit more if it got me into the parks that much faster- does anyone know if one is better than the other?

My sister and I live in different states and I am paying for her to come on the trip with me, where she will be doing her first-ever 5k and 10k races (and a swanky chEAR package for the half!). This is her first trip without kids since she had her first (she has 4) and she just sent me a text of her packed suitcase! She's READY to go!:rotfl2:

I personally have always done Super Shuttle and not the Disneyland Resort Express. I think with the Disneyland one, you're on a bigger bus and it has a route of hotels to stop at along with way. With the Super Shuttle, you're in a passenger van, and it stops at multiple hotels, but they seem to group people together so all the hotels are in the same vicinity. Someone else who has actually used the Disneyland Express might want to chime in, though.

How exciting! I have 4 kids too, so I can totally relate to the "first trip without the kids!" excitement!

Have a great time!
